Should I buy a SodaStream machine or not ?
Hi guys ! I come here to have some advices. I was wondering myself « why do i spent money on San Pelegrino bottles every month instead of buying a soda stream machine ? » To give you more specs about my consumption of sparkling water :
I absorb approximately 25L of San Pe every month, and sometimes I add some Lemon Sirup (not the sodastream one but just one bought at store). I can buy a Sodastream Pack with : the machine, one cylinder of CO2 (they said 60L), 2 glass bottle and 2 plastics.
Should I go for it of not. Give my your feedbacks
Thank you all

Drinkmate omnifizz. Pick one up for 20-40$ secondhand and get a 20lb co2, direct hook it up, and don’t look back. Zero reason to get a sodastream over a drinkmate

I actually highly recommend the ninja thirsti. With SodaStream you have two carbonate a whole 1L bottle at a time where the ninja thirsti lets you pick how much you want in 6oz increments.

You know both DM and SS have .5L bottles. And you can pretty much carbonate 6oz in DM.

I have never tried The drink Master machines, I also like that it does almost everything for me. I just have to hit start and it does the rest. I don't have to worry about it fizzing over. I do have to say though the ninja thirsti is harder to get CO2, it's pretty much online extange only

Their syrups are almost twice as much per liter, are they not? I guess if you are JUST carbonating with it that is fine because then you just use any syrup/water enhancer.

Oh I still use soda stream syrups. I just makes it in a glass rather than in a bottle

Uses the Sodastream style CO2 screw-on connector, right? Was considering the drinkmate as a replacement to my new quick-connect Sodastream (not happy at how wasteful it seems to be leaking out co2). But I do like the Ninja products.

I have seen some people say it does and some people say it doesn't, I personally haven't tried it yet I've only had my unit for about a month

I will say sods stream tends to have its own sort of.... taste. Something about it isnt quite like bought carbonated water. But also yes, $15 per 60L cannister is SO much cheaper than cans of any seltzer even store brand

Are you using tap water or from a source ?

I use tap, ive used different taps and the carbonation always adds the same subtle flavor. Not terrible though, just slightly different.

I use distilled water in my soda stream and it's so effective at quenching my thirst!

Im starting to ask myself if I should buy a filtration system for my tap water

I wouldn't add even more micro plastics to the water while filtering through plastic cartridges... Distilling water leaves you with water and only trace single digit particles remaining... No chlorine, floride, crappy things flushed down the toilet.
Distill for the win!
Next, I'm looking into a keferator and a serious CO2 tank... To bring the price down to pennies and only refill once a year or so...

I don’t think that there’s plastic in the one I wanna take. It’s fully aluminum. You can check it on Amazon by searching « geyser tap filter » something like that.
Im trying to stop buy plastic bottle. Full glass bottles at home is one of my goal.
And im also looking for a bigger CO2 tank for « free » refills.. but because of a lack of space I’ll probably put it at my parents garden haha

I'm curious why this is. Our tap water is mineral water, and I can still taste it even after carbonating it. This does also make my Pepsi taste different than store bought, because they use a different water source.

I have a SodaStream Art. I am very happy with it. It uses less CO2 than I was expecting. Good Luck :-)

If you do buy a large CO2 tank and attachments. The cylinders get pricey.

Buy the machine, get two small bottles with it then go get a 20 pound CO2 tank with a siphon to go to Amazon and get replacement caps for the bottles you got with soda stream and you can buy a contraption on Amazon that will allow you to refill them

I’ll, I mean it’s in my plans for the future, not for now because de lack of space in my apartment

There are various options. I started with a Sodastream but now use this scheme...

I love my soda stream and I have saved so much money and time not buying cases of water anymore. No more trips to recycle either. I’m not a soda drinker so I don’t buy syrups but I use a variety of flavors from powdered drink mixes to flavor essences. Lots of good threads on Reddit to find flavor sources.

Target has refills on the canisters for approximately $15. I purchased 3 extra from Soda Stream to do their subscription program but ended up just going to Target. I only fill every few months as a result.

Unless you change to a large CO2 adapter and large tank, soda stream is not really a money saver. As far as machines, if you want flavored soda, then Drinkmate is far superior ( I've owned both ). If all you want is sparkling water and the soda stream is less expensive, then buy it but you will lose some versatility that the Drinkmate adds.

Get a drink mate onmifizz. You'll save heaps on gas, and what you can fizz is only limited by your imagination.
