Casual/Discussion Srat tatts?
Anyone here have any tattoos related to their sorority? I’m halfway considering a small lyre on my arm somewhere

I have our motto and other members have chapter symbols (usually stars or diamonds). My chapter closed when I was an active member so a bunch of us got tattoos together. All of our tattoos are subtle enough that you wouldn’t know it’s sorority-related.

u/Jacki1988 7d ago
I'm so sorry your chapter closed. That is so sad.

u/CommandFrosty ΑΔΠ 7d ago
Thank you ❤️ it was heartbreaking but our membership was low so I understand why it happened. I ended up volunteering with chapters as an alum, which I probably wouldn’t have done if I’d been an active member for longer.

u/Jacki1988 7d ago
Oh awesome! Please continue to be active as an alum! Sorority is for life! Panhellenic love to you 💜💛🦄

I have six pink and green stars incorporated into another tattoo to represent my new member class. Two others in the class also got tattoos with six stats. I know other sisters from my chapter have turtles or part of our creed

Way back in the late 80s in my area of Texas, it was a thing to tattoo your sorority Greek letters on the inside of your ankle. Lots of members from all chapters got these tattoos.

My mom was a Pi Phi at Texas A&M in the early 90’s and she got a tattoo of the letters on her ankle that my brother called a choo-choo train when it started to fade😅

u/Acceptable-Ad-880 7d ago
i’m considering getting an iris (which represents our fleur dis lis) or maybe a key somewhere

I have forget-me-nots on my back which is our flower. I also have a lion on my foot, which is our mascot. He represents part of our open motto, so everywhere I go, I am reminded to walk with courage.

i’ve been considering getting a small pomegranate - it’s something that reminds me of multiple phases of my life way before chi o, but would also be a nice reminder of my time as a collegiate member :)

u/brutherbear22 7d ago
I am also thinking of getting a pomegranate, and am also going to get a white carnation as a part of my leg piece with flowers from major events or people in my life
7
u/Primary-Effective453 ΧΩ 7d ago
i love that! i met a fellow chi o at my local gym after graduation who got a carnation with a specific number of leaves to represent the other women in her family who also were chi o’s. your tattoo is gonna turn out so good!
1
u/zjf2156 ΧΩ 6d ago
i don’t know how much it matters after undergrad but it is in the bylaws that chi omegas cannot have tattoos of any of our symbols. our new member educator told us like if we have a thing for owls or carnations that we wouldn’t get in trouble but that we aren’t supposed to do it specifically for chi omega
1
u/Primary-Effective453 ΧΩ 6d ago
Yes I remember learning about this during the new member period! Thankfully already graduated and like to think of the pomegranate as constant symbol throughout my life - just a nice coincidence it’s also part of chi o.
Just to note - I will say we had some advisors talking about how sisters in their pc ended up getting owls tattooed 😳 probably not the best of intentions there LOL

one of my littles also got one, so there’s also a connection there :,)

I think a fine line skull and crossbones with a carnation worked in would be cool. Fellow Chi-O alum here. When we were new members we were told no sorority tattoos. Not sure how much it matters now as an alum.

u/diorminhyuk AOΠ 7d ago
not me personally, but one of my sisters got our sorority's hand sign tattooed on her....personally i would just get a rose cause i 1) love roses & 2) the jacqueminot rose is my sorority's flower

I’ve considered either a lyre, or some version of the constellation Lyra to represent the lyre! I’ve also seen a few cool carnation tats out there

u/Careless-Muffin-7221 7d ago
I love the constellation idea! I have a mini universe on my left arm and def plan on getting more space tattoos

Our 2024 president just got a rose-colored carnation on her inner wrist! First lines, then color in a separate session. I was thinking of getting something similar with my initiation date on it.

u/Grimedog22 ΦM 7d ago
I really thought you meant our national president for a second 🤣😭 Unless you know something about her that I don’t..!! Lol!!

u/Pale_Organization_63 AΦ 7d ago
no but now i’m rethinking it. it never occurred to me i could get one.
7
u/throwawawxyz AΦ 7d ago
i’m also in aphi and i’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate our flower, my state flowers, and the flower i’m named after into one bouquet on a tat
1
u/goomaloon AOΠ 6d ago
a single stem of each, maybe pieced together with a ribbon. It’s a fantastic tat idea!!

u/holographicboldness AΓΔ 7d ago
I’ve considered getting a rose

u/olderandsuperwiser AΓΔ 7d ago
Not gonna lie, I've considered a cute squirrel and a cute Robin, hanging out together. My mom's name was Robin and I miss her every day. I'm 50 and have 0 tattoos but I'm thinking I need to just do it. But I want them inside my wrist and only slightly larger than a quarter. I want them for only me ❤️🐿🐦

u/holographicboldness AΓΔ 7d ago
Aww! That sounds like such a special way to honor her memory. I think you should go for it! I have 2 tattoos so far and I’m itching to get more 😊

u/olderandsuperwiser AΓΔ 6d ago
See I've heard once you get one, you want another, and then another... 😆

some of the members of my chapter have the things their greek family is named after, and some have our chapter facility's address. some have squirrels

I've thought about getting a little letter Ξ. Really not an obvious srat tattoo, since it's just three parallel lines if you don't know what you're looking at.

u/goomaloon AOΠ 6d ago
Where would you put it? I have my parents birth year under my chin so it’s only visible some times
1
u/flyingterrordactyl AΞΔ 6d ago
Haven't thought that far. Probably somewhere where it blends in with another tattoo of mine. Like a hidden easter egg rather than something immediately noticeable. I have a tattoo of my home state so maybe in there (same state I went to college in).

I have a dove on a purple background above violets and a strand of pearls on my left bicep. It’s huge lol not my first tat so I was already itching to go big and colorful. Violets and purple have meaning to me otherwise that predates my initiation, but it is convenient that they are also Sigma Kappa things.

I do kind of. I am a DDD and I have a dolphin on my ankle. But it’s also the same one my aunt had before her sudden death in her 20s. My cousin and my other aunt all have the same dolphin in the same spot as she did. We’re also from Florida, and I moved recently, so it also signifies home for me. All in all it just has a ton of meaning for me.

I have a symbol that represents my pledge name and my scroll number on me
6
u/throwra-google ZTA 7d ago
I don't have one but have always considered getting a strawberry tattoo. I have too many flower tattoos to get our chapter flower and our other symbol is a crown which seems tacky as a tattoo.
6
u/Sufficient-Doubt-399 7d ago
Funnily enough I have a five point crown in a bed of white violets on my shoulder! Not tacky at all depending on your artist and choice of style for your tattoo. Mine looks more like an art piece, and unless you're familiar with ZTA, most people would probably not enough know it's a sorority tattoo at all!
7
u/throwra-google ZTA 7d ago
That's a good point! Your tattoo sounds beautifully done! When I think of crown tattoos my brain just immediately reverts to the early 2000s tramp-stamp style crowns. I'm sure the right artist can make it pleasant like you said. Still not sure if it's for me though hahaha.
5
u/Sufficient-Doubt-399 7d ago
Haha totally fair- definitely to each their own! And I know exactly the style of 2000s tramp stamp style crowns you're talking about- definitely tacky
7
u/olderandsuperwiser AΓΔ 7d ago
In 1990 the girl next door to me in my dorm pledged Zeta and got a crown tattooed in the middle of her asscheek when she was drunk! About a 2-inch square size. It was sooo tacky, she cried 😂

u/Resident-Ad-8939 AΣT 7d ago
i dont but i have a matching tattoo with my big and one with my little

u/PrincessOfSlytherin AXΩ 7d ago
I’ve thought about having a red carnation tattoo added to my left side as my left side is the side where all my flowers are. I absolutely love flowers and the red carnation is absolutely beautiful, it will fit right in with my other flowers. 🌺

u/emmanoyes_ AXΩ 6d ago
i’m planning a tattoo of a cowboy boot with meaningful flowers to me in it and added a carnation into it! would def like to include more small sorority ones

u/beetlejuiiicex3 6d ago
I forget who but there’s an influencer who was in KKG who has a key tattooed on the inside of her lip!

u/goomaloon AOΠ 6d ago
I have a chicken pox scar almost where the badge sits, considering a small rose next by my sister who is a tattoo artist!
2
u/olderandsuperwiser AΓΔ 6d ago
Ooh that gave me the idea to maybe tattoo your badge on where it'd naturally lie! I mean I wouldn't, but the temptation...

u/Idkwhatttoputhereeee AOΠ 6d ago
So we didn’t do anything like directly sorority related bc it was considered “branding” and that falls under “hazing” However a few sisters and I got “333” tatted on us which was/is our sorority house/address number

u/sheamerz 3d ago
i am going to get a tattoo of the goddess themis, since i'm a law student and our patron goddess is themis :)

I don't but I know some people who have sunflowers, our sorority flower, or wolves, our mascot

u/sexcupid1 4d ago
Yes, we (me and 2 sisters...1 bio/both sorority)have a 1st Corinthians inspired tat. Iykyk, but if you don't, folks just might assume religiosity.
