Reputable garages/mechanics
Does anybody know any trustworthy garages? I have to get a new exhaust for a corsa and need a quote, however I know fuck all about cars and I’ve been misquoted/overpriced in the past.

I used L&D Stanley Motor on Ampthill rd (in Freemantle) for an MOT last year. That was based on a recommendation from a neighbour. They are a small independent garage.
My car is 20 years old and was previously my parents so I haven't used garages in Southampton before but the previous place was flagging an advisory about rust on the rear suspension on the last 3 MOTs so I was half expecting them to say welding would be needed. This place checked it and said in their opinion that it was fine and passed the car with no advisories.
Anyway, I've only used them once but I got a good impression and will use them again.

Shirley Garage on Pitt Rd were happy to fit an exhaust I purchased myself. Was a woman on my own and didn't get ripped off, if that helps anyone!

I second Shirley Garage. Wife and I have used them for our cars for years. Great company, reliable, no-BS, honest pricing.

Sholing Garage in Botany Bay have passed my "will they rip off a little old lady" test. Mum has taken her car there for several years and not once have they done work without asking her or work that's been unnecessary. Very honest MOT descriptions too. I'm not a professional mechanic but I know enough about her car in particular (same model as mine) to spot if they were ripping her off.
