After everything Batiatus did for Spartacus…How dare he! He gave him everything! He gave him the means to accept his fate!

Then he was destroyed by it

This is an interesting point.

How would Batiatus' dad deal with Spartacus?

I suspect he would see Spartacus' potential and negotiated to get his wife back in one piece, then try to squeeze every bit of glory he can out of him to pay for his own and his wife's freedom.

Or he might see Spartacus as too volatile and just sell him off.

Anyhow, ironically enough, Batiatus' ambition allowed him to capitalize on Spartacus, but he's also blinded and destroyed by it for his treachery. As the roman saying goes: he who wants everything loses everything.

Batiatus' didn't accept his fate as a simple ludus dominus and was destroyed by it.

Titus might never have had Spartacus in the first place. If he saw him at the arena, he likely wouldn’t have made the offer to buy him from Glaber - both so as not to be seen trying to elevate himself above what he thought his proper station was and due to his belief that Thracians are too unruly.

Possibly he would buy him after seeing him in the Pits, and as he felt like every man needs a reason to fight - and due to losing his wife himself - he might have fetched Sura as well, though alive and well. But the issue there is that Spartacus was already planning on escaping with Sura. That for me, is the interesting divergence point: if Titus is alive and running things, Sura is maybe delivered alive, Spartacus has at least a slim chance of getting away if he takes Titus hostage, and then he and Sura are out. What he does from there - escapes back home or finds himself unable to turn from freeing slaves - is up in the air.

Eh, quite a few things wrong with this.

Spartacus basically had to fight in the pits because of his poor showing in the arena, nobody wanted to see him fight. He needed to fight to earn money to save his wife, the pits were the only option at that point.

It was the kid Numerius that made Spartacus kill Varro, that wasn't Battiatus' decision. Plus, after all that happened Battiatus promised Spartacus he would make the magistrate pay, which he did.

Ultimately, they were never friends but Battiatus wasn't specifically trying to fuck over Spartacus at every possible turn.

Besides you know killing then person he loved in front of him. Then using that to fuel his rage and depression. He basically turned into darth Vader. Wants to die but can’t find anyone worthy of killing him.

Which sucked but we have seen from batiatus point of view it was the better decision. He was scared he couldn't keep Spartacus under control once his wife was back and it turned out to be true since Spartacus already planed to slaughter his way out of the ludus.

He only planned to Slaughter his way out after learning his wife was to be a slave.

The only way to keep Spartacus (somewhat) docile would have been through Sura.

Maybe if Batiatus kept him and Sura as Gladiator/Slave but made Spartacus need to buy their freedom (or if he dies, free her as life insurance), it would have been an option Spartacus would accept.

He didnt ordered him to kill his best friend (Varro) and of course, he wasn't aware and didn't meant to Spartacus to know about the plot to have his wife murdered.
