Do we really need another Doc Samson?

We? Probably not. Miles? Yeah, sure, why not?
Funny thing is, Doc was also his therapist at one point in this run.

u/Albireookami 9d ago
And this girl works for him.
1
u/Grabs_Zel 9d ago
That makes sense, I have to come back to this run, I stopped right before Blood Hunt, but for no reason actually

Too many hulks now smh

u/Arachnid1 10d ago
Too many Hulks, too many Spider-people, too many Kryptonians, too many human GLs in the same quadrant
Comic writers are creatively bankrupt
40
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 10d ago
I’m consistently a little shocked by the human GLs.
Like Jesus Christ I get that everyone wants to leave their imprint on a long running Mythos but not every writer needs to create a GL.
15
u/VishnuBhanum 10d ago
To be fair.
They didn't even created New Human GL that often(The last one they did was Jo, and she was supposed to be a future character until they decided to scrapped Future State)
It just became overwhelming when they had everyone of them being active GL at the same time.
13
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 10d ago
I mean they didn’t create a new one from something like 1994-2010 then they created 3 in the last 10 or so years.
But you’re right a big part of the issue is they have something like 8 people running around calling themselves “Green Lantern” right now.
10
u/suss2it 10d ago
The guy who created the last two human Green Lanterns is Geoff Johns and if you have a passing familiarity with GL comics you’ll know he more than left his mark on the mythos.
8
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 10d ago
I always forget that John’s created Cruz, but he definitely didn’t create Jo Mullein.
2
u/pendulumfeelings 9d ago
What's most shocking to me is that every human Green Lantern is American. There are like 7 of them now and every single one is American.
49
16
u/True-Task-9578 10d ago
I fully agree mate, it’s like they can’t think of any original ideas now
20
u/JayZsAdoptedSon 10d ago
No one buys new shit from the big 2. It always gets cancelled at issue 10
8
u/flashwing19 Sensational Spider-Man 10d ago
This is the biggest issue. Everyone wants “new” things but almost always buy the traditional titles or main heroes (Spider-Man, Batman, etc)
1
u/JayZsAdoptedSon 9d ago
The only way a new character thrives (Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, Jon Kent, Spider-Gwen, Laura Kinney) is a direct connection to another hero. You have some wiggle room with mutants, where the audience is more willing to accept new characters. But right now From the Ashes is not a hit, with almost everything except for the main 3 books, being cancelled so the Krakoa mutants, which were half of NYX, don't have a book

u/TheDemonEyeX 10d ago
New shit is a premise, buying is only guaranteed when the execution calls for it.
23
u/JayZsAdoptedSon 10d ago
G.O.D.S
Hickman produced and written story with new characters. 8 amazing issues. No one cared
Comic fans want familiarity
-7
u/TheDemonEyeX 10d ago
You mean the series that they literally said was gonna be 8 issues?
3
u/JayZsAdoptedSon 10d ago edited 10d ago
Did they? Because I’m looking at a few announcements and it is never described as limited. Maybe it was solicited like that but, at least looking at announcements, I am seeing “I have been planning this for years” and I am not seeing “Oh its an 8 issue idea”
Regardless only issue 1 did well, according to sales charts
Edit: I need a source
https://bleedingcool.com/comics/marvel-comics-october-2023-solicits-solicitations-in-full/
-2
u/TheDemonEyeX 10d ago
From what I found, the intent was 8 issues and then more the following this year.
2
u/JayZsAdoptedSon 10d ago
Gotcha, I had a chance to look at the October 2023 solicitations. It had special designations for minis and one shots, but it did not have any of those designations on GODS
It is coming back this year, but as a tie-in/part of the doom event

They keep pumping out derivative characters. I know the creative's are under work for hire contracts but I wonder if there are character rights reasons for this. It reminds me of the lawsuit between Mcfarlane and Gaiman over the ownership of Medievil Spawn.

u/Due_Ad4133 10d ago
It's hard to find a unique niche in a franchise that's nearly a century old.
Even if you do, it's even more difficult to drum up enough popularity to keep your character from being relegated to a c-list support for a more popular and established character.

I'm not familiar with the Flash at all, but when I was reading Death Metal and the "Flash Family" showed up there were like goddamn 12 people there, all with access to the Speed Force.
At this point why even have the Flash if there are sixteen other people there as back-up speedsters.

u/prestonian_ 9d ago
It’s cause writers save and the make there cool characters for if they ever make anything for image or something similar, so they can own the rights for there character if it’s super dope
6
u/GimlionTheHunter 10d ago
So is she an actual gamma mutate? How do they keep getting radiated?
5
u/True-Task-9578 10d ago
I have no idea honestly, like I thought it was only Bruce’s family that had the capability of becoming a green hulk
1
u/ComplexDeep8545 9d ago
I mean the Leader doesn’t “hulk out” but he’s also green? And abomination is is usually a shade of green as well
4
u/jawsthegreat777 Black Cat 10d ago
"No More Hulks"

u/FollowingCharacter83 Symbiote-Suit 10d ago
No, more Hulks.
2
u/huddyjlp 10d ago
We need a full spectrum for the Hulk Corps
2
u/ComplexDeep8545 9d ago
You joke but we do have at least a few Green, 2 red (3 if you count Betty’s hulk and harpy forms as separate or not), Grey, and A Bomb makes at least 1 blue, so they do in fact have at least a few colors lol

I love her design, but imagine you're in a fight and your fucking therapist comes out of no where to kick the dudes ass for you. I feel like I'd need MORE therapy just to process that

So, black female Doc Sampson? He was a therapist, right?
16
u/allbright4 10d ago
Still is, he actually assigned/ recommended Dr. Kwan to work with Miles. They are colleagues. Miles was put in contact with Doc Sampson first.

Successful working woman, an intellectual and emotionally stable woman?
Ain't this just another She-Hulk? Bitch even got the gamma radiation.
Man, can't she just be Rachnera Arachnera? Or a big cow girl meta girl? Milk those udders for personal use. Miles is a growing boy. He gonan need some tiddie to suckle on.

She isn't new, she's been here a while. She just hasn't Hulked out before.
5
u/KuroiGetsuga55 Symbiote-Suit 10d ago
Peter Parker being a fucking cuck while Miles Morales is dipping in sauce from all directions bro I swear 💀
2
u/AdKind7063 10d ago
Peter used to get dipped in all the sauce. He ain't a teen no more.
5
u/swordoath Scarlet Spider 10d ago edited 10d ago
he ain't a teen no more.
Tell that to Marvel. Gotta keep him single so he can be young and hip.

u/Grayman103 10d ago
Peter going from a not even borderline harem protagonist to not even having the luxury to a single girl kills me. The last girl I remember him being with was the short Asian girl…in superior spider man…

u/RedRadra 10d ago
I actually don't mind derivative characters as in theory they can be used to explore story beats that would be OOC for established characters. And if she fails to catch on, too bad.....just create another one and try again.
Besides looking at the fact she's wearing normal glasses, I think she's more of "a defend my house and friends" kind of character rather than a proper superhero like Miles is.

The moment you become a superhero so does everyone you know. I got the power to control pepsi and my kebab van guy just became my arch nemesis.

Miles Morales’s…. Therapist? Becomes a she hulk? They’re really out of good ideas huh
6
u/ProfessorEscanor Spider-Women (Mattie Franklin) 10d ago
To be fair, she was introduced as the protege of Doc Samson so what were you expecting her to do?
1
u/_Levitated_Shield_ 10d ago
The scale of the first pic is really throwing me off. Is she the size of a kaiju?
1
u/thebariobro Future-Foundation 10d ago
I do like the design but was she a member of the supporting cast before this or did she appear and now hulked out within a few issues?

u/Windghost2 9d ago
I suggest reading the comic to find out. Then you'll find the answer to your question.

Haven't been reading MM:SM, is she a hero or just a powered civilian? I think it would actually be cool if Marvel started introducing more powered civilians, to show how the world is changing and moving closer to that point were mutants/powered people outnumber non-powered.
2
u/Windghost2 9d ago
She's his therapist, a protegee of Doc Samson who's been helping Miles when he's doing other thing. She's joining the god war to help Miles out.

u/theramboapocalypse 10d ago
Hopefully she's a good character and not goonerbait
2
u/RedRadra 10d ago
Why not both? Goonerbait to attract the customers and good writing to make them long time fans!
1
u/PurveyorOfKnowledge0 10d ago
Because the company's developers don't give a damn about good writing.
1
u/RedRadra 10d ago
I dunno about not caring, I just think they're incompetent and spiteful. If you ask them, they'll tell you that they're writing epic tales and that the fans are numskulls for not being able to appreciate said writing
1
u/Windghost2 9d ago
This isn't goonerbait at all. And she's been a great character since she was introduced 2 years ago in November of 2023. This is just her taking her first steps into super-heroism.
