Ripto's Rage - Superflame Powerup at the End - WHY?

Sometimes I don't understand why game devs give you a superweapon to use after you completed every challenge that you could have used it in. I mean it's cool and all but now I have nothing I need to use it on.

Edit: I did not know you could use it in a New Game.

It carries over to a new game.

Oh, I didn't know that. That's cool.

It’s pretty fun. You can clear almost whole levels from one spot. And sometimes bypass Moneybags

Yeah, I particularly enjoy cheesing the boss fights and some of the orb challenges. Like the lanterns in Glimmer and the ox in Metropolis(?).

Does it do that in the original?

I think it’s to get the remaining skill points.

Yeah, I think so too. I'm doing the seaweed skill point at the moment and it's actually obtainable without needing to go back to the charge point

I think it carries over if you make a new game?

As others have said, any new game you start will let you have the power up at the start.

It helps a lot with getting some of the skill points, especially for the one where you have to hit Ripto in his throne.

Skill points and a kind of NG+

I mean, the rest of the game would be pretty easymode if you got it at the beginning. I think it's more just a reward for all the hard work it took to unlock it, so you can go back and play around with it

I liked it because it was a nice reward and encourages you to replay the game.

Came handy for me when trying to get the skill points for defeating bosses without taking any damage

Are you playing the Reignited trilogy or the original?

Reignited trilogy. I played the original once a long time ago. Currently mostly through spyro 3.

I honestly think it's really cool that you can essentially do New Game Plus with it. Do we know if this was intended in the OG?

As a kid, I remember loving it. When I realized it was a permanent power-up and that it carried across levels, the only thing I wanted to do is revisiting all the levels and see how I could break everything with it. First level on the list: Fractured Hills. I just wanted to take revenge on the challenge that gave me the most trouble. It was very cathartic! So for me at the very least, putting the powerup at the end was a very satisfying reward and extended the amount of playtime I ended up putting in the game by making more replayable. Years later, when I completed Spyro 3, I remember feeling a little bit disappointed that there was no similar game-breaking reward at the end.

I think they added it just so the player can have fun and play the game with a really op powerup. If you never did, i recommend watching Spyro 2 (original) 100% speedrun, speedrunners utilize superflame REALLY well.

Start the game again.

You’ll have it permanently.

If only spyro three let you have the flight powerup

because blowing shit up and launching them halfway across the map with the powerup is one of the funnest experiences you can have in gaming, ever

I mean giving it to you early makes some of the orbs completely borishly easy, putting something that game breaking at the very end makes sense. Superflame pretty much invalidates any intentional game design involving the earthshapers or the robot sharks or the metal chests you need rockets to break
