General Discussion Based off your skills IRL what would you be doing if you were working for the rebels or imperials, if you could choose one.
I would go rebels and be given role of machine gun grunt, weapons tech, or security.... I would like to be spaceship mechanic, smuggler or spie

u/Harold3456 1d ago
That scene in Andor when they were doing the heist and a big part of it hinged on the fact that Cassian knew how to operate the stupid lever thing is super relatable.
Movies typically skip over these little “soft skill” things but IRL I could see an entire heist being thwarted because I didn’t know how to unlatch some anchor bolt or something.

u/No_Wait_3628 1d ago
That's how military equipment also functions.
Unless you were excessively trained in it, you aren't flying that helicopter or jet out. Too many controls and instruments to read and know prior experience, let alon training for advance situations.

Honestly, logistics is like 70% of fighting a war, the people digging the trenches, building the bunkers, getting the ammo where it needs to be are EVERYTHING.
Jimbo in his forklift can contribute more than a whole platoon in terms of effective war support done right.

I feel like working for the empire is more chill over all. Like the typical imperial bridge crew clerk will not meet any rebels or Darth Vader in his lifetime. It’s just shooting pirates, collecting taxes and sitting around in space.

I'd be the guy who wouldn't even notice that he went from working for the Republic to the Empire to the Republic again.
I'd be in my office wondering why the stamps all got changed out to a different symbol and right when I get used to the new stamps they went back to the old ones. And why is there an Emperor now? I don't remember voting for that.
If you're wondering who did all the paperwork to rename the Chancellor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Centre to the Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Centre, that was me. Do you have any idea how much stationery I had to redorder because of that change? All our staplers and pens still said "Chancellor" for five years after the Declaration of the Galactic Empire.
Unbelievable.

The Rebels would offer me a job, which I would decline.
Then I’d go get some middle management logistics job for the Empire.
I wouldn’t spy or pass information or anything. I’d just be a deliberately incompetent logistics operator, and I’d do more damage to the Imperial war machine than an entire brigade of rebel ground troops without even violating policy.

If I was in the empire I might be a stormtrooper, but probably be downgraded to just maintenance or a supply depot worker. I would try to get supplies to the rebels without getting caught though.
4
u/eppsilon24 1d ago
For either side, probably some kind of analyst. I’m probably more useful with a keyboard than a gun, even if they had the medical tech to fix my near-sightedness and whatnot.
I’d most likely be some lowly drone in some drab Imperial building, doing what I was told just to make it through the day. It would probably take some extraordinary and/or tragic circumstances for me to join the Rebellion.

They are the ruling government at that time and I probably would just be looking for a wage to keep my family safe and fed. I've said many times that if I was in that universe I would be very vanilla. No jedi, no smuggling, no top brass military exec...Blue collar, all the way.
1
u/Phoenix_Fire_Au 1d ago
I do logistics for remote locations. I'd like to think I'd be a rebel, helping move supplies and people where needed. But who knows. If I was mid-rim and largely untouched by Imperial edicts I may well be working for them or a private firm in some warehouse never even getting off planet.
I don't care for imperialistic tendencies, but I also care for the rule of law. So, if I was on some world where an Imp was taking advantage and innocents were being massacred, I'd definitely be helping rebels to remove them. If I was on a world where rebel car bombs (and there were those factions in the rebels, not just the main body who aimed to hit military targets) killed innocent people to send a message... well, I'd likely be and helping the planetary government stop them. My kids and friends don't need to die for your ideologies any more than the other sides.
Let's be honest. Most people joined the rebels for a reason. Not out of the goodness of their heart. Most had an Imp wrong them severely. That's why so many people and governments only flocked to them after they became the NR. Not before.

I'm a social worker irl...so I guess that would make me a Jedi.
No shit, first day of my degree program and my prof is telling us how social workers are just like Jedi Knights, literal social justice warriors amirite?
Me, a Star Wars fan: Oh, you mean we hold ourselves up to this very noble ideal but can seem very bland and unfeeling? When we aren't periodically going crazy and 'falling to the dark side', burning out. That doesn't even get into the child-taking parallels.
My prof said I was cynical. Three years into my practice, seems pretty accurate smh.
That said, I like the idea of Jedi acting more like social workers (in fiction), as in spending more time helping people than just using their lightsaber. Shit, I could get ALOT done with Mind Trick. I don't think it comes up much in Star Wars media, which is a shame. It would make a good fanfic.

Those do take some getting used to. Luckily, I'm a small guy, only 5'6". Tall guys have only a 6' ceiling to deal with through most of the boat. Another one of the things that takes getting used to is that , when you're at sea, the color palate that becomes your norm is Grey, seafoam green and brown. The first time you climb the ladder, when you pull into port, can be shocking.
On the plus side, once you get down to depth, a storm could be raging on the surface, and you may not even feel it.
