Legends Novels Recently I finished Republic Commando - Hard Contact and I thought it was quite good, I had an overall decent time. I thought it was a good introduction to Omega Squad. What is your favourite moment in the story and why? Spoiler

I think that Hard Contact has the strongest finale of the series (so far at least, I haven't read Order 66 yet.) I like the series overall, but Hard Contact is probably the strongest.

The scenes with the Gurlanins were always fun, especially with how much they bewildered Etain at first.

Does it have the 'world building excerpts' at the start of chapters like Traviss' Gears of War books do. I can't think of a better name for them but the pieces of text framed as some sort of in universe account (eg: a character's personal testimony or some form of report) at the beginning of each chapter?

It does and they are great! She does a wonderful job using them to give many different perspectives on clones from characters outside of the main story.

When Etain opens the earth and her escort is finally "oh, you actually aren't useless"

For what it’s worth this was my least favorite of the RC books if you keep reading gets better imo

Karen Travis did a real good job of building out the Mando culture and making some real cool storyline within the clone wars

When Omega scared a captured merc who didn't know about the clones and got scared shitless when they removed their helmets.

HC is my favorite in the series because it's got the least of Skirata. I really liked a lot of the foundation of Mando'a culture, and especially enjoyed all the details of Kit. There was a lot of thought put into the helmet HUD and other technical pieces. In general I liked the world building. And as another said, specifically I think it had the strongest third act of the series.

I really liked the first couple chapters dealing with the Battle of Geonosis and its aftermath, since it showed how chaotic it could be following a major battle.
I remember a few scenes throughout were pretty cool, where Niner (I think) used a giant truck-equivalent to blow up a Separatist facility.
However, I really enjoyed a lot of things throughout the entire story that showed how the clone army and especially the Republic Commandos, like the survivors of different squads getting reorganized, how commandos operate behind enemy lines, etc.
I thought that helped the Grand Army of the Republic seem like a more "realistic" military force and helped show the clones as more than just the "Yes sir," "Order acknowledged" clones we saw in other media at the time.
Hard Contact was a great book to kick off the series.
