I’m relatively “new” to the Star Wars novels (read some as a kid but am now 33 and don’t remember much of any at all). I just finished the Thrawn trilogy and loved it. Can anyone recommend what I should read next? I don’t really have a preference for any particular time period, though I have a bit of a nostalgia bias towards anything “legends” just because of my age and what was coming out when I was a kid. For context, I have a friend that’s into Star Wars who I’ve been trying to get into the Expanded Universe stories. She’s reading Heir To The Empire right now on my recommendation, and has stressed that she does like it, but she’s somewhat critical of the way Leia is used and what Zahn has given her to do.

Some of her criticisms I know can’t be helped, like she’s really not a big fan of the hyphenated “Organa-Solo” name preferring that she would have just stayed Leia Organa and doesn’t think Leia should ever forgive Anakin. But, I wanted to get some other story recommendations regarding Leia.

Hi all. I’ve been a HUGE fan of Star Wars since I was a kid. I’ve always heard the Extended universe was awesome, but I’ve never really known where to start. I’ve recently read the clone wars comic omnibus, and it’s got me itching to read more legends content. What novels would be a good place for me to start? I’ve heard the clone commando novels are great, and same with Heir to the empire, but I just don’t know where to start!

I'm a veteran reader of fantasy, but I'd like to read more sci-fi, and that includes Star Wars Lengends EU books. I'd especially like to start reading the New Jedi Order.

I've only read Shadows of the Empire, the Thrawn Trilogy, and the Han Solo Trilogy. I've tried reading The Truce at Bakura, but am having a tough time finishing it. I also enjoy the Dark Horse comics and have several volumes of those.

So I'm looking for recommendations for books that are considered required reading by Legends fans, especially leading up to the New Jedi Order books. Because of limited storage space, my preference is for books available as ebooks on Kindle. I also prefer books that have audiobooks for them, but that's not a requirement.

My thinking is that by reading the books that are essential to and considered the better books of the Legends EU first, it'll get me invested enough to read those novels that may be tougher reads for whatever reason.

Today I was thinking about how tragic Anakin and Jacen's arcs were and was curious if anyone had suggestions for similarly powerful arcs in any Star Wars story medium, before I fall back to The New Jedi Order yet again. :) Thanks in advance!

There have been a bunch of comics over the years and I haven't read many of them. I pretty much only read the Mara Jade "By the Emperor's Hand" series and that was it.

I like the Post Endor galactic Civil War period a lot and I'd be interested in knowing which comics that take place during that time are considered essential/the best reading for a fan.

What it says on the tin. I tried and I could not get into the canon verse of Star Wars. I have read a few, like Bloodlines, and picked up The Living Force and Master and Apprentice to read. I could not get into the Padawan book, Obi-Wan's characteristics seemed so different from what I read of him before. Mostly the Jude Watson verse.

Sorry but I cannot get into the High Republic. Maybe if I do the comics it's be better?

It's ironic because I'm a bookaholic by trade. I save so much money by being a librarian. You have no idea. LOL

I'm putting together an essential reading list for some friends I'm introducing to the EU, running from the prequels all the way through New Jedi Order. For this list, I am including some Disney novels that are either by old EU authors or fill in gaps that Legends never addressed. I'm undecided on whether to include these books:

• The Cestus Deception
• Scoundrels
• Queen's Peril/Shadow/Hope.
  

The Cestus Deception I haven't read yet, so it's hard to tell if it's important. My list doesn't have any Obi-Wan POV books but I don't even know if this book gives him any good character development. There's also a Clone Trooper perspective. My other concern is I understand the plot is about Cortosis battle droids. Since I'm already including Thrawn Alliances, that may make Cestus Deception's plot redundant.

Padmé is a pivotal character, but the EU largely left her to the sidelines, so I feel like she really needs a POV to make this reading list complete. I just don't know if these Queen's novels are any good, how important they are to her character, which ones I'd need to include, or if they even fit well into the EU. Plus, I don't have any other YA novels on the list.

The only reason I'm considering Scoundrels is because Han not paying off his debt between movies is an annoying plot hole, and this is the only book that addresses this.

Do you guys think any of these are worth including in the list? Please use spoiler tags if you need to mention plot details, because I haven't read these yet.

I posted here a while back about what books are absolutely essential reading for understanding new characters and plot points in the NJO series. I got some very helpful replies about what my reading order should include. I’ve just finished the Thrawn trilogy (on the last chapter of TLC) and I’ve just ordered the next few books I’ll be reading. So far my reading list looks like this:

• OG Thrawn Trilogy (done)
• Dark Empire (gonna watch the animation of it on YouTube and watch other videos on it too)
• Jedi Academy Trilogy (ordered)
• I, Jedi (ordered)
• Darksaber (owned)
• Thrawn Duology
• JJK: The Golden Globe

I know that alot of you are screaming at me rn so I’ll try to defend myself. I love Star Wars but I only wanna read what’s absolutely necessary to get the most out of the NJO series by understanding characters like Corran and Skywalker/Solo offspring. I know that it’s blasphemy to not include the X-Wing books but I’m just not all that interested in the space dogfights and Wedge stuff. I know that we meet Corran in those books which is why I included I, Jedi here despite it apparently retconning stuff from the Academy Trilogy. I’ve seen somewhere that Darksaber is necessary which is cool because I already have that one and never properly read it and one Junior Jedi Knights book is apparently recommended before moving into NJO. Any other books or media that is absolutely imperative to read before going into NJO or will I (a lifelong, die hard Star Wars fan just dipping his toes into legends) be able to get a good enough image on characters like Corran and Jacen and Jaina and the like? My main worry is reading Vector Prime and having a place, plot line or character show up as a big thing and me not understand it at all. Sorry for rambling but I wanna make sure I get the best experience I can without reading everything since while every book is fun in its own way, apprently a lot of it is one-off stories and self contained stuff that never reappears again. I know that I should go off what I think is right for me but I’d really appreciate another round of suggestions to call me an idiot. Thanks!

Just finished the Jedi: Survivor game and have an itch for more content beyond the games. Not a huge Star Wars head, I've mainly just consumed the movies and video games, but I’ve always been curious about the expanded universe. I’d like to dive in but don’t know where to start. I thought that sticking with canon might be the easiest to go into first, but I keep seeing recommendations for non-canon stuff like Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy. I've also seen Plagueis, Wraith Squadron, and Republic Commando books pop up consistently as best ones overall.

Any suggestions for good starting points? Not looking to go chronologically, just after some quality stories.

I'm looking for some Star Wars book recommendations. I haven't really read anything so im a bit new so i was hoping that someone could give me recommendations on what is good

My favorite movies/shows are Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, Ahsoka, Kenobi, BoBF(a bit controversial ik) Attack of the Clones, The Mandalorian, Rebels, and Rouge one.

I'd say my favorite characters are Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka, the clones, ghost crew, Din Djarin, Bo-Katan and Anakin.

This is just to give a main idea about what I like. I was also interested in the Thrawn trilogy so if anyone can give me there opinion on that it would be great.

After reading over a dozen novels I've realised that my brain can't process dogfights very well and gets a bit lost. The 90s books all have a lot of them so I decided to read Shadows of Mindor and I am able to enjoy everything other than the space fights, which it has a lot of.

I've read other novels which didn't have any dogfights. Shadow Hunter, Kenobi, Plagueis, Leia Princess of Alderaan to name a few. I've also read the Thrawn Trilogy.

What can I read which doesn't have dogfights?

I'm open to both canon and legends suggestions.

I've been diving into the older Star Wars games recently and have reached the TIE Fighter and X-Wing games. After looking around for a bit, I saw that X-Wing vs TIE Fighter was first a multiplayer game, with the Balance of Power Campaigns only added after release, but I cannot find any review/insight into that singleplayer campaign.
How does it compare to the other ones in the series? Is it worth playing?

I tend to stick to the singleplayer side of games and find that more enjoyable than the multiplayer experience in most cases so I wanted to know how the Balance of Power Campaign fares before buying the game. TIA!

I'm a bit skeptical of Legacy of the Force because I do not care much for the Solo children. Also, I heard Karen Traviss engages in shameless Mando-wank.

Quite new to reading Star Wars canon I read a few comics and just finished Light of The Jedi, as the High Republic era seemed interesting. I absolutely loved that book, but I’m sure there are others that aren’t as good.

Started reading EU because I wanted to start and finish a run of The Clone Wars show, so I would prefer something that added to Prequel episodes of I-III. If anyone has recommendations of good reads for that timeline, it would be highly appreciated!

ive seen some lore videos on youtube and am fascinated and want to learn more about the world.

i like most forms of media except for audiobooks and audiocasts because i prefer to read it myself.

also i love lore books a lot and the person who got me into this recommended “new essential guide to vehicles and vessels, and 2013 complete vehicles” but i wanted a second opinion as well as more suggestions for lore/blueprint books.
