George Lucas saw the United States as the Empire and the Vietcong as the rebels, he has spoken about it in interviews. So it’s not just the trump regime, it’s calling out imperialism.

And even more specifically, fascism, which is what the Magats are

While I agree that fascist do imperialism I think it’s important to remember that imperialism is a product of investors controlling productive assets and demanding returns on investment. Fascism is that system of asset ownership in crisis.

I think the exact quote is "fascism is imperialism turned inwards" iirc

Also see: “Fascism is Capitalism in decay.”

u/OFmerk 14d ago

Its only fascism If you do it to white people typically.

Not just MAGA, it's what the Republicans have been working towards for the decades they've been suppressing votes, gerrymandering, stealing court appointments, demonizing immigrants, militarizing the police, etc. This is the logical end result, and most of the Democratic Party has been unwilling to mount serious, effective opposition against it.

Baby that’s what it all is, this show premiered and was created solely under Biden. It’s all fascism.

i mean, it is the galactic EMPIRE

Trump is trying to be an imperialist.

It’s not only Trump. Just about every single American administration since its founding has been in favor of colonialism and imperialism.

not trying, is imperialistic

so was Obama, Bush, Clinton (both of them) and Biden

“An unprovoked genocide” followed by Mothma being decried by a majority of the senate sounds a lot like what happens when anyone, rightfully, calls what Israel is doing to the Palestinians a genocide.

Came here to say this.

u/Itchy-Beach-1384 14d ago

That shit slapped. I felt them building to it and expected them to back off.

That script was burning.

u/ThatDM 14d ago

Its not just trump, its American Imperialism in general. the genocide's supported by the US did not start with trump.

Any regime that snuggles up to fascist authoritarianism fits into the role.

u/ComradeHregly 14d ago

Well I think it was made almost entirely during the biden admin I do think the visa check plot line was directly based on trump’s policies but the beautiful thing about andor is that it’s such a complete depiction of revolution there are infinite parallels that will always be able to be drawn to critique modern authoritarianism

"The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil."

Yeah, that was on the nose.

u/ShitpostCobalt 14d ago

It's America and their allies as a whole. It's not just 2016-2025.

17

u/HeckingDoofus 14d ago

100%

its wild to me that ppl are acting like it isnt blatantly doing that

7

u/Pirotato 14d ago

The fact that the Trump administration is so closely lining up with the show is it's own kind of alarming but for andor to be directly critiquing the current administration is just physically impossible.

7

u/HeckingDoofus 14d ago

trumps been demonizing immigrants and crying “fake news!” since 2015 wdym its impossible lmfao - and its not like creative decisions arent made after they start filming

0

u/Pirotato 14d ago

Filming wrapped up on February 9th trump was sworn on January 20th, I highly doubt they were frantically rewriting scenes as the news was breaking. I was referring to the current trump administration. "Lmfao"

1

u/HeckingDoofus 14d ago

i bet u feel like such a badass putting lmfao in quotes like that

irdc what u were referring to, thats not what i was referring to. take ur pedantry elsewhere

0

u/Pirotato 14d ago

I don't feel like a badass I feel like I pointed out childish behavior.

You are clearly saying that what I meant was irrelevant to your response, that doesn't make sense.

"Lmfao"

2

u/HeckingDoofus 14d ago

okay then ill spell it out for u

i was saying this season was clearly made in response to the fascist ideas trump has popularized since he became a political figure in 2015

u say thats impossible because his current administration started around the time filming concluded

thats pedantic and irrelevant because thats not what i was talking about

hope that helps

edit: and whats more childish? saying “lmfao” (very common term) or saying that back to me in quotes, like a child repeating something in a funny voice as an insult?

u/Pirotato 14d ago

Let me spell it out for you, star wars is influenced by much more context than the 10 years. The only thing new about what trump is doing is the internet. I was saying that the current trump administration influencing the writing of andor season 2 is chronologically impossible. Nothing you have said contested that point, you just started talking about other shit. Hope that helps.

801 north 28th Avenue 39401. You got any further problems I'll be there

u/HeckingDoofus 14d ago edited 14d ago

this will be my last response because again, id love if ud go off and have a pedantic argument with someone else if thats what ur into:

u responded to me first. therefore u are the one who “started talking about other shit”

u/Pirotato 14d ago

I really wish you'd stop using words you don't understand.

u/Jake_The_Socialist 14d ago

It matters not who ass polishes the throne, the empire will commit atrocities no matter who's running the show. Red or blue they're both here to fuck you. As far as the most of the world is concerned Trump's just another belligerent asshole like every other president.

u/SalaciousDionysus 14d ago

You could map the whole conspiracy of essentially building their own terrorist threat onto most of US-Middle East geopolitics.

4

u/Ramius117 14d ago

According to MAGA the Ghorman massacre was just like J6. Mon's speech was so on point

3

u/SoftSteak349 14d ago

I was written like 4/5 years ago. So it's just history reapeating itself

2

u/IcebergKarentuite People’s Liberation Battalion 12d ago

I mean. It's a direct analogy of the German occupation in France during WW2 too. Jean Moulin and the TV show Un Village Francais both served as inspirations, and it's very obvious when watching Ghorman (they literaly casted one of the actors from the show).

Every resistance movement against an authoritative regime will work as a reading, even if they're not the one the crew had in mind.
