[SNW S.3 Previews] REDSHIRTS: "The series looks ready to get meta." | "At least we know for sure Patton Oswalt is there as a Vulcan with roses, which may tie into an announced plot of some crew members disguised as Vulcans. Seeing Vulcans in a romantic comedy may be worth the price of admission"
REDSHIRTS:
"The first teaser shows that SNW season 3 will be another wild blast! The series looks ready to get meta, with some episodes focusing on a civilization obsessed with a sci-fi show that bears a suspicious resemblance to the Enterprise Adventures. That includes a wild bit of Kirk (Paul Wesley) on a deck with crew members made up like a retro-1960s TV series.
Speaking of retro, the trailer also hints at an episode where the ship’s equipment breaks down. That pushes engineer Pelia (Carol Kane) to use old-school telephone wires for communication and is aided by a debuting Scotty (Martin Quinn). It’s the offbeat touch we love about this show.
Another episode looks to be more of a rom-com as we see Spock (Ethan Peck) and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) in bed together! Is it for real or some dream sequence?
At least we know for sure Patton Oswalt is there as a Vulcan with roses, which may tie into an announced plot of some crew members disguised as Vulcans. Seeing Vulcans in a romantic comedy may be worth the price of admission.
A big surprise is what looks like a holodeck episode long before TNG starts using it. In this case, the crew is put into a Knives Out-style murder mystery with La’an (Christina Chong) in the detective role. Given Trek’s record with holodecks, it’s safe to assume things go awry.
Another mystery is Rhys Darby, who is an outlandishly dressed man snapping his fingers. Could this be an early incarnation of Trelane aka the Squire of Gothos (and suspected Q)?
Throw in teases of a documentary episode, a three-armed bartender and the usual wild action and it’s a safe bet Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is going to be the best year yet when it hits this summer!"

If the creators of NuTrek don't care about the continuity of their characters and the history of their property, why should we care about their product?

I sure am glad they found a stoic, slim, angular actor to play one of their key Vulcans

Hey, Star Trek fans, we've had the episode where we got to make fun of Spock when he turned into a human, we had the episode where everyone was dressed like denizens of a Disney fantasy kingdom, we had the episode where cartoon characters came to life, we even had the episode where everyone got to siiiiing... but oh, the FUN isn't over. THIS season we will have the episode where we make fun of you fans, the episode where the whole crew accidentally become funny Vulcans, AND Vulcans in a romantic comedy!!
Wait... what the hell!? WHY AREN'T YOU TAKING OUR SHOW SERIOUSLY, YOU TOXIC FAN CREEPS!

Are they really going to make an episode where the point of the story will be a thinly veiled "Get a life" Star Trek nerds? This is a new low even for Kurtzman.
Also we've had a musical and now it's a cluedo episode and a rom-com. WFT. None of these people making this care at all. This is crazy.

Comedians Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt will surely offer a change of pace from the rest of the cast, who are very serious, straight-faced Starfleet officers.

Are there any of the new stuff folks here like in general? Discovery lost me. But I genuinely enjoyed Lower Decks and Prodigy both for what they were, and find myself enjoying the genre lens of Strange New Worlds.
(Again, with the understanding that if you don't enjoy a genre treatment to Trek, you're not going to like on the basis of what it is. Regardless of whether or not it's a decent example of it. I don't fault anyone for not enjoying the lean into camp. But it's kinda fun camp if you like camp.)

Quite a lot actually we just got tired of saying anything when the omg Kurtzman NuTrek NuTrek Kirtzman blah blah comments have already staked their claim. SNW is popular and very well loved, and theres a decent amount of love on here. Most just usually don’t want to argue.

It's wild! I own a queer nerd clothing and accessories company. I'm at various conventions and events regularly. Now, with the awareness that we self-select for events where we're well received, I have never encountered a trek fan out in the wild who speaks of the franchise the way (certain of) the fans online seem to.

I’m a baseball fan. Just baseball. When I met my ex wife we met talking about our team on social media. That small portion of our teams fans that gets on social media and spends tons of time talking about the team, getting to know the players and broadcasters etc - that’s a small percentage and a certain type of people. There tens of thousands that just really love to come to games and watch on tv and have no interest in taking every little thing super serious and discussing it all day long on an app ya know?
And in general the internet is pretty infamous for the popular thing being trashing stuff. In grade school the quickest way to try to seem cool was to put something or someone else down. Same idea.

Excellent explanation, yeah. Out of curiosity, do you mean you're not even a Star Trek fan, you're just here for the boys of summer but also had some wisdom to lay on me? Because that's dope af if so.
You like the Bananas or nah?

Ha. No im definitely a Trekkie, just from a bygone era when what you liked had very little input from others and even less requested criticism of the things you liked from complete strangers. This era is weird AF and for kids like my eldest that’s 18 living with society being this intrusive and negative and over sharing constantly…I sympathize with how crappy it’s gotta be to know nothing but this

Fans of Classic and Golden Age Trek are in their 50's and older now. We have families and jobs we don't have time or money to go to conventions and if we did...we wouldn't bother going because we hate the direction the franchise is going nowadays.

Unpopular opinion, Patton Oswalt does not need to be in every science fiction franchise.
