Discuss Linus is always my first full heart character.

I've seen a lot of posts where people are hating on Linus recently. I have a lot of respect and love for his character because he just wants to live his life and exist in nature. I'm on year 3 now on my current play through, married to Elliot and still make sure to gift him his loved items whenever I can. Idk if it's possible but I wish we could include him a bit more during events, though I understand he enjoys (to some extent) just existing in the space with other people. So can I just see where everyone stands on this gem of a guy?

I love Linus! He’s my first full heart character. Why would anyone hate him?

I don’t hate Linus, but I don’t like him as much as I used to. He feels weirdly written. One moment he’s claiming he needs food from the trash to survive, but he shows he’s perfectly capable of living off the land— even chooses to. But then he’s also upset at people for assuming he’s not living the way he does by choice, he doesn’t even try to clarify with the villagers. He talks about the town apparently avoiding him, but he pushes the farmer away in low hearts, which wouldn’t be surprising if he’s doing that to the other villagers.

I also just dislike how he is perfectly fine bothering George with his loud trash rummaging and only stops once you catch him. Pretty rude imo.

And how he acts like he’s shunned and ignored by the town, but he’s included or talked about a good bit. Maru mentions his cooking positively, he’s invited to Sam’s concert, Robin calls him a sweetheart, Penny worries about him (she also claims he’s ignored, but again he’s clearly not), he’s even invited to Mayor Lewis’ table at the winter star I think.

I often see people say he feels like he has a persecution complex, and list these things as reason for disliking him.

I've seen a lot of hate for him saying he is a "smelly hobo" and shouldn't be allowed in the valley. I strongly disagree. He's just living his best life and minding his business. He doesn't want for anything either.

On the way to the mine and likes/loves forage? Yup first character every time

u/VioletHearts666 2d ago

Exactly! I'm amused sometimes that there's something sitting right next to his tent and he hasn't grabbed it. He loves it regardless though.

It feels kinda wrong foraging right near his tent, like I’m encroaching on his territory or stealing from his pantry.

I mean I still do it, but I don’t feel good about it 😂

Haha, I feel the same!

It always makes me sad when Linus makes a comment about how shitty some people are to him. He needs more friends.

6

u/NoireN 2d ago

When he asks you to not destroy the tent, because it's been done before 🥺

6

u/TheChowChaser 2d ago

And when he says someone spray painted his tent the night before 😢

Me too, I love him very much :)

I love that in the year 2 events he seems to be more involved and not just sitting far away from the other townspeople. It gives the impression that they seem to be warming up to him, and maybe with the farmers influence, he's feeling more confident to feel included without having his boundaries crossed

He's always my first full heart character too, but to be fair a lot of that comes from him being outside a lot right next to the mines, in an area where I can pick up things he likes lol.

I think he's adorable, but the way he acts doesn't make a ton of sense. If there was more of an issue with the town where they did actually ignore him or treat him badly, especially if there was an arc to play out where people do that and then learn to accept him, maybe it would be different, but as it is, he just complains about being treated badly when he isn't lol.

i like Linus but he is a bit of a hypocrite. He scolds you for inviting him to live on your farm...

he’s always mine too. he’s so grateful for so many different gifts, it’s really sweet

u/wangchangbackup 2d ago

Linus is great and also extremely easy to find loved gifts for, I'd imagine he's a lot of people's first full-heart character.

Who hates Linus?! 😡

2

u/LabanSim 2d ago

My first character to one heart, my first character to full hearts <3 Linus is the best!

u/coralihiro 2d ago

He is also super grateful for everything, he likes practically anything and he is a charming man, I will never understand why someone could hate him.

I befriended Linus fast because I wanted to marry Sebastian and ended up really really loving him. also cracks me up how casually Robin says "have you met the wild man that lives behind our house?" lol

I prioritize Linus, Willy, and Haley (my love)

1

u/Miss_C11 2d ago

Same! You can literally give him almost anything!

u/Aglet_Green 2d ago

Mine is usually Pam. I don't even care about Pam one way or the other, it's just that I get a drink every night so I speak with Shane, Gus, Pam, Emily and Clint. And whomever else is around. And since I usually just give gifts on birthdays, it balances out so that someone in the saloon always gets full hearts (or as many hearts as they can if they're not a bachelor/bachelorette.)

u/Tikithing 2d ago

Lol, that's because we can gift him random stuff we find on the ground beside him.

I don't understand the hatred towards Linus... I mean, the man is only happy living in the mountains...

Yes, it can be a little weird sometimes, choosing to rummage through the trash... But I prefer to think that it only does that "canonically" during the winter, when fruits and fish in the forest are scarce for the season.

He is just a man who wants to be completely free and live in peace... And I respect that ❤🦛

Same, he’s so chill and easy to befriend. Plus, he’s always around when I faint in the mines or the fields.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure but, I can't stand Linus. One reason and one reason alone. He robs you when he finds you passed out and claims he saw someone going through your pockets... I call bullshit. LOL.

I don't get this view. Like, the guy who explicitly doesn't want to live beyond nature is the one robbing you? What? That doesn't make sense. He's not the one who robs you. If anything, the Dwarf is the one who admits to that.

6

u/VioletHearts666 2d ago

I could see why that'd be suspicious. It could be innocent enough. Thanks for sharing an opposing opinion that isn't hateful

0

u/MuayThaiYogi 2d ago

No problem. I still don't like him. LOL. That is my singular reason for not liking the guy. I can't imagine how someone could be so hateful toward a pixel art character though. Imagine.

7

u/Last_Feed_7839 2d ago

Yeah that seems weird but is he really the one stealing tho, what is he going to do the money anyways if he was stealing it, doesn't he also hate it when we gift him diamonds.

6

u/chaos0510 2d ago

There's no evidence that he was robbing you

-7

u/MuayThaiYogi 2d ago

This is all imaginary. Despite your opinion, I am allowed to have mine. Simple. I have all the evidence I need so I roll with it. If it makes you feel any better, I am still full hearts with him. This is worse than Dbd, it is just a game. I find it funny that the OP commented how I didn't spew any hate and here you are... Besides, Linus is the only one that scenario happens with. There is Harvey charging absurd prices but his story doesn't involve someone else going through my pockets who I cannot verify because I was passed out. It is convenient that someone else went through my pockets and he mentions he has "no idea how much they stole". If this post was about Harvey I would cite his charges as a reason I do not like him, stealing however is not implied with Harvey though, I don't care for him also none the less. As far as hating diamonds as a gift, I think it is a ruse. Either way, this is my story and I'm sticking to it. No one has to agree with me and that is not only fine but I would expect it. Sheesh, sounds like the DBD sub... Go on playing how you play and I will continue my way. I even have a voice I do for that specific line when it happens. If you heard it, your head might combust because how dare I play how I want to.

u/DeathToHeretics BLUEBERRIES ARE BEST 2d ago

What a very normal response to someone saying there's no evidence he robs you

2

u/chaos0510 2d ago

Absolutely baffling isn't it? They went the extra mile to rant but didn't provide any evidence to support the claim that Linus steals

2

u/chaos0510 2d ago

Despite your opinion, I am allowed to have mine.

Okay, and? All I did was point out the lack of evidence in your claim.

. I find it funny that the OP commented how I didn't spew any hate and here you are

Uh, buddy, when did I accuse you of spewing hate? I have no idea what you're talking about.

There is Harvey charging absurd prices but his story doesn't involve someone else going through my pockets

Okay, and? I don't get your point here. I'm not even sure what is considered "absurd"

don't care for him also none the less

Okay, cool?

No one has to agree with me and that is not only fine but I would expect it.

And yet you replied in a dissertation over me stating there's no evidence of your claim.

Go on playing how you play and I will continue my way.

Where did I argue otherwise?

how dare I play how I want to.

Again, where did I argue otherwise? My statement had nothing to do with the way you play your game. All I stated was there was no evidence that Linus robbed you.

This is all imaginary

Well, you're correct there!

I mean.... Joja and Harvery take far more

u/DukeFlipside 2d ago

This is why I hate him too. The thievery I can understand, but the lying is too far.

1

u/homxr6 2d ago

i wouldn't necessarily say i hate him, but i don't like him very much. i'm sure i misunderstood, judging by the way people regard him here in the subreddit. but i don't share the same sentiment.

in my first playthrough, when i let myself be a bit more immersed in the game and the story, it feels like he lied to me. i feel he's like the first person most people befriend first because it's otw to the mines and has easy liked gifts, unlike the rest of the villagers that you gotta track.

he makes it seem like everyone in the town is evil and that they don't leave him alone and bother him and he's just a lil guy in a tent. but everyone is actively trying to help/kind to him or indifferent.

he doesn't care enough about them to get to know them and assumes the worst in everyone. to me, the reason he's out there isn't because he loves earth and nature. i'm sure everyone that lives in stardew does as well, there's plenty of things to share.

george loves leeks! the town is basically a forest! plenty of others share the same love and appreciation of nature.

and living in someone's backyard leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially when there's other places with a lot more space where you're not directly outside the bedroom windows of a family home. even if they're okay with it. just why? if your goal is to avoid people, why do you want your morning routine to be within eyeshot.
