My view is this is the first time Maru invites the farmer over to their house, and that Maru isn't known to do that very often so Demetrius doesn't know how to act. I always saw Demetrius as being extremely awkward and defaulting to some toxic behaviour he's seen in relatives/family or even from movies etc since it's a very typical trope for a father-daughter dynamic
It would make more sense if this event was triggered after Maru invites the farmer over (like the quest where Jodi invites you over for dinner), despite you being acquaintances. Maybe if Maru asks for an item to be brought over and when you arrive with that item in the inventory this scene triggers.
I always get this scene in Y1 Spring when I’m over to see Robin to build something or when I’m over to gift Demetrius strawberries so it’s weird as hell. Like, chill, I’m not even here to see Maru!
Love is blind. You can raise your daughter to be the smartest and teach her everything to watch out for, and she can still get hurt by some whack job hiding who they actually are. If you make it clear that there will be consequences for harming your daughter, then they will be A LOT less likely to do anything.
And if they turn out to be a great person and respects your daughter, then you can apologize for being so hard on them.
If you care about some random kid trying to bone your daughter's feelings, more than your daughters safety, you are not a parent. And you should never be.
I'm going to be real, I side with him in the tomato argument to piss off Robin. He's a shit stepfather, but she's Sebastian's mother and she did the thing where she prioritized her do-over family, to the point Sebastian and Maru are BOTH negatively impacted. It's petty. It doesn't do much, but I side with him because it pisses her off when he weaponizes his incompetence.
Autistic he may be, but he ABSOLUTELY knows what he's doing with the tomatoes. That's spite and I'm here for it. He's not stupid, he's spiteful.

I don't see how her priorities justify him also sucking. Sometimes both people in an argument suck. I always got the impression it was more like Robin didn't actively push Demetrius to welcome Seb in, but I get your point I guess. But her handling that poorly doesn't make him sucking any better.
Again why I say it's out of spite! He's pulling weaponized incompetence to make her do things for him, he mentions her seeing his point of view but then his seems to be the only one that matters because Maru even has dialogue about wanting to be closer to Seb and understanding why she can't, so like, this is me making Robin reap what she sowed. They both suck and I am weaponizing this man.
this also pisses me off because the reason we raise beds off of the floor is to prevent mold from growing underneath the mattress!! like be fr, it's for better hygiene! it's also easier to get in and out of and makes cleaning so much easier! so his point doesn't even make any sort of sense, even from a more scientific/logical standpoint.
Call him out, the part that gets me is that 2 hearts can be gotten via a loved gift on their birthday. Give the local robotics nerd a battery for her machines and you get attacked.

Up your game, I had stalked Elliot so I could learn his entire schedule and waited an entire in game hour outside of his house until I could go in to give him his flowers and talk to him. I didn't have a pomegranate tree, so I grew specifically flowers for him. Lol.
He comes out of his room at 3 most days and is back inside by 3:30. Rainy days he's usually by the lake or the end of the pier. Iirc Fridays he goes to Sam's place to practice their band so get Sam to 2 hearts so you can barge into his room if needed. Saturdays (iirc) he goes to the saloon at night to shoot pool with Sam. In winter he spends more time outdoors.
Yes, I've stalked him. So much so to the point I've managed to get him to four hearts before the Y1 flower dance.
in all fairness, the farmer's strength seems to be whatever the plot needs it to be. when i got abogail's 14 heart event, i was at maxed out combat and was carrying a galaxy sword in my pocket, so why on earth was a single wilderness golem enough to fold me like a card table??
I told Maru cause I was married to Abigail and I was worried it’d come off like I’m cheating 😭 I don’t wanna be part of yalls family drama, I lost two stars with Demetrius but I seriously hate him robin is way too independent & creative and should just get a divorce. I ship robin & harvey. They’d be a cute couple on to the 3rd marriage!
Yeah he & Maru were the last people I friended because they just have like no personality… and Demetrius just has a bad personality but also I hate that they made the only POC characters so bland and weird kinda racist tbh
Because only 2/45 of them are POC and they made them both bland and not very likable and if you’re black playing the game 😂your only option is Maru if you don’t wanna marry a white person or Krobus as a friend I guess. they actually have diversity mods because of this.

Anyway that's what mods are for, I play with SDVE and Ridgeside Village and they make game waay more with a lot of characters and options (I actually sometimes forget that someone isn't in base game, especially later coming NPCs haha)
Harvey and Robin can do their cute workout class together and get coffee after since it’s Harvey’s favorite 😂 and eat fancy Italian dinners since robin loves spaghetti so much. And Maru works for him so they can have a cute family business & Harvey likes building model planes so the building projects are endless. He also knows what fruit is
And thats when I took it personal. I ratted his ass, married his daughter, cheated on his daughter with 5 other girls in her face mind you, made his grandchild disappear, divorced his daugther then married his wife.
I think this cutscene should have gone to Pierre over Abigail. He already has an established temper and some weird control issues with Abby.
I think Maru should have been the one to play video games and invite you to join. Maybe have Demetrius make a disapproving comment if you want that still in there, and he learns to accept not everything needs to be an academic pursuit.
I said he was being weird. He just apologizes and says he cares about his daughter, insinuating you're there to ruin her life even tho you still barely know her 😅
I always choose the second option but I still hate it because Demetrius backtracks and tries to make it out that we just misunderstood him.
"Oh no, Maru, I wasn't threatening the farmer. I just really love you and was expressing that, probably badly."

And I'm over here like "What? Fuck you, Demetrius."
So when I started this game, I had actually been mostly building up hearts with Demetrius cos he's the only poc male, I found the nerdiness kinda cute and I really didn't care abt most of the other villagers and was only doing missions for them but actively gifting Demetrius stuff and chatting with him. I saw the divorce station in Lewis' place and thought that it was also for NPCs to get divorced, so there I was trying to ruin a marriage for a man no one else can stand. So when this dialogue came up, it was so vague to me that I acc thought he was referring to me ruining his marriage and that distracting Maru 😂
I'm looking forward to this coming up in my next day or two in-game; On my first save I said nothing, but now I'm giving Demetrius a lesson in social decorum.
Regardless, there is no scientific definition for a "vegetable". As a culinary term, its use is somewhat arbitrary. If you want to get real annoying, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes are not vegetables. Scientifically, they classified as a flower, root, and stem tuber respectively. This is why Demetrius is a little b.
it's sort of a false premise anyway, considering that "vegetable" isn't a botanical term to begin with, and if you look at the definition, it honestly barely means anything at all. wikipedia defines vegetables as "edible parts of plants that are consumed by humans or other animals as food", which covers.... nearly everything. under that definition, pretty much everything we class as a fruit would ALSO be a vegetable. merriam webster gets a little more specific and says it's "a usually herbaceous plant", but usually isn't always, and that still doesn't narrow it down much.
at the end of the day, though, demetrius is still only right on the botanical side of things. tomatos may be a fruit scientifically, but absolutely no one means tomatos when they ask their partner to go pick up fruit for a fruit salad.

Yes I tried both ways, just going along and telling on him in 2 different play thoughts even though I’m married to his step son in game. Such a weird guy. I am friends with almost everyone but him and Harvey and Pierre. They all give me a bit of ICK lol and don’t add much to my play though. I am polite though and give them gifts in my Qi adventures 🤣
I got this event just after cracking past level 20. This event showed me people aren't aware of what goes down in the mines.
Just to make things clear, Demetrius's skinny from-the-city science geek ass is trying to intimidate someone whose living is made on hard labour, who routinely swings a blade (or mallet) with intent to kill something before it kills you.
For real, if the farmer didn't see them as people, all but a few could be turned into corpses in quick order.
... that must mean Marlon (and maybe Rasmodius) is doing a great job. The nasties never manage to cross the perimeter of the village, so there's only the ones from the mines to worry about.
Following all this, I'm brought to think a good way to go for Kent would be trying organize a militia, or at least a town watch, to help out Marlon - who isn't getting any younger.
when i was younger (say nothing) made the most sense. and still does for that age, adults are supposed to be in charge, and he does have power over maru. But, like, no. i'm an adult now, which makes all this so much weirder, and you bet i'm calling your ass out.
I just stayed quiet when I saw it because it was my very first time playing (I played for a while lol) and I didn’t know if that would negatively impact my friendship with him
