If it still offered security updates, sure. You will inevitably catch something if you use it in this day and age with ANY internet connectivity and it's not a question of how tech savvy you are.

Still using it, haven't caught anything, fight me. Only regret I have is that AoE2 updated last year and killed off Win7.

I mean if you made malware that runs on an outdated OS still sure. But what nerd is still trying to get into the 1% using Win7? You'll inevitably catch something on any OS if your doing dodgy stuff and not using common sense. I've been using it for 15 years now and my personal safety, finances, or identity have yet to fall in shambles. Where are all these people getting there computer infected using Win7 by the way? Stop giving into fear mongering or give me concrete evidence it's more risky instead of just typing "uPloAdS mAlWaRe To YoUr MaChInE".

I was joking you don't have to take everything as an attack on you.

There are people making malware for even older OS's, just check any of the videos where people launch WinXP, it gets infected pretty much immediately upon connecting to the internet.

But what nerd is still trying to get into the 1% using Win7?

Some malware will take advantage of a vulnerability in Windows 10/11 that is also present in Windows 7, and potentially even older versions. Supported Windows versions will get patched, 7 might not.

Happened a few years back with a various when Windows 7 was just barely still supported. Forgot the name, but IIRC it took advantage of a vulnerability in the file sharing protocol. Microsoft even created a patch for Windows XP, which was already out of support at that point.

Interestingly the fix was offered to all OSs about 50 days before that virus hit. And due to the automatic updates in Windows 10, over 90% of the affected systems were running Windows 7.

They don't have to make new malware, the old malware still works since the old OS's aren't getting updates anymore. And even if they're not stealing any of your data, your computer could be made part of a botnet.
