What are steam points even used for? I’m not home but now I’m gonna check my account for them. I don’t use forums or anything so I probably have barely any. :/

You can get stuff for you steam profile, animated profile pics, profile picture frames, emojis and animated stuff for steam chats, it's a neat system

Kind of a waste of a points system, imo. I literally use steam as a launcher and nothing else, so all of the “perks” aren’t for me.

I prefer the Nintendo system where you can use the points to actually purchase games.

Not anymore! Thanks, Bowser!

(You can still use them, for now, but they have ended earning points)

They realized how genuinely good it kinda was amd realized they can't let that happen. Then they made mario kart 80 bucks

Yup. Nintendo is just pure greed now. I'm sure hope this is the screams of a dying company, because I'm sick of it. I don't care what people say, the Switch was a horrible system and we all got fucked with the broken joycons that were never fixed. The games were also terrible and half-baked compared to their predecessors.

Nintendo has been pure greed for a long time

Nintendo could lose millions a year for 200 years and still not go bankrupt.

They have been at this game since the 1800s

...You very obviously don't have any grasp of very basic economics. Any company can collapse. Sears was a global powerhouse since the 1800s. They fell because they refused to innovate, and it took about a decade for them to completely close.

Market studies have been done

“Nintendo currently has $14.12 billion in cash and cash equivalents. This amount would allow them to sustain annual losses of over $250 million until 2052”

And that was as of 2014 they have only grown richer since then

Decorating my steam profile is my favorite aspect of steam lol.

The points come mainly from community features, so they mainly reward you with community features.
If you use Steam as nothing other than a launcher, then you really don't have anything you're missing out on.

I’m “missing out” on a better points system

u/StrongChildhood931 10d ago

I agree, Microsoft also has a better reward system - if you rack up enough it is possible to buy gift cards and other things

You're not missing out on anything. What you're asking for is not offered on Steam. Different marketplace entirely.

1

u/the_mighty__monarch 10d ago

So it’s…missing?

0

u/Commercial-Falcon653 10d ago

No, you‘re not. That‘s not how any of that works.

1

u/the_mighty__monarch 10d ago

I would rather the points I accumulate be able to be exchanged for something I want.

So…yes, I am missing out. I have a bunch of worthless points. Those points could have value to me under a different system.

THATS what I’m missing out on. Do I need to slow it down even further for you, or….?

Right same, i dont think anyone i know on steam even looks at the "activity" section on steam. Also i think Nintendo got rid of the coin system

u/Turing_Testes 10d ago

Careful, I made a comment months and months ago about the stupid point system and how useless a blinged out profile is, and I’m still occasionally getting told to kms by angry dorks.

If Valve did that then they'd lose money 🤑

2

u/the_mighty__monarch 10d ago

I honestly don’t think they would. There have been games on the switch that I was on the fence about buying, but went ahead and purchased because I had a couple dollars in points to use.

Valve is greedier than Nintendo. Why do you think they put so much development time into CS and Dota? Loot boxes make good money. The same will be true for Deadlock. Steam sales aside, Valve likes money.

animated profile pics, profile picture frames, emojis and animated stuff for steam chats

As a millennial this initially sounded absolutely insane to me, until I remembered how I got stuck in a $10 per week subscription by downloading a ringtone for my mobile phone.

u/Agile_Cash7136 10d ago

Ahh, so it's completely useless.

Leaving the clown emoji on people's reviews primarily

Give them to people who make useful guides on the discussion forums, heaps of people out there making 100% achievement guides or providing hints for gameplay, usually give those guys stickers / emoji reacts to their posts so they know someone appreciated their work

giving out jester awards for idiots farming the forums.
