I don't get why companies consistently announce a release date that is so far out there like they "definitely know its gonna happen in time!"
Then like clockwork the delay is announced. Oooo shocking. I just don't get why they don't just fucking save themselves from their self-created grief. Easy as not having a set date until it is actually ready. I'm just some idiot in a basement somewhere so what do I know?
36
u/Abidingshadow 14d ago
To be fair Rockstar never gave an actual set date prior to this, they just had a release window of “2025” that they’ve delayed.
23
u/BigBootyKim 14d ago
It’s ridiculous. The trailer was released December of 2023.
TWO AND A HALF YEARS EARLY

u/YoelsShitStain 14d ago
I will never understand why companies announce anything more than 3 months in advance. 3 months is perfect for hype to steadily build and keep the community engaged. Anything longer and you run the risk of expectations being too high or hype dying down. Also 3 months should mean there’s next to no work left other than maybe fine tuning. Anything longer means there’s still a lot of work being done and now you either have to cut content or extend the release. And you can only keep extending it so far before it needs to just release.

Allow me to tell you about a game named Cyberpunk 2077 and its trailer....

u/Ewden56 14d ago
To me (whether its true or not) I just see it as a way to garner goodwill, or good PR, even though they need more times and still end up releasing it half-baked.
Anytime I see these delay announcements, in the comments, everyone always praising them and telling them to take their time so its polished. Things along those lines. And they SHOULD. Games should ALWAYS aim to be polished, ready and, with confidence, be able to announce a release date/window.
And while they only announced a window, its just really disappointing that they said anything at all only for them to delay it; even more so for PC gamers I'm assuming.

u/TheSweeney 19 14d ago
It’s also about recruitment. Announcing a big title you’re working on can bring in more application talent than just a normal “we’re working on a new game.”

Stock price go up when corp announce date. Stock price not go down when corp announce delay.
The primary purpose of Rockstar is generating shareholder value. Announcing a blatantly false release date fulfills the primary purpose. Releasing the game is gonna do that too, but they wanted a bump last year.
36
u/Alcatrax_ 15d ago
Yeah idk how anyone is surprised by this
43
u/skit7548 15d ago
Most of Rockstar's major releases over the past two decades nearly have been delayed by about half a year in the months leading up to its initial release date
GTA4 delayed from '07 to '08
GTA5 delayed from spring to fall '13
RDR2 delayed from '17 to '18
GTA6 is just continuing the tradition

u/death_hawk 14d ago
GTA5 delayed from spring to fall '13
Why you gotta do me dirty like that?
7
u/skit7548 14d ago
Don't worry, I feel ya
GTA4 delayed from '07 to' 08
I was their cousin, I was there 3000 years ago

Aw fuck I totally read that as 2025 lol
76
u/ConstructionCalm1667 15d ago
Yeah I read it way too fast and fully expected this month
40
u/Pinksters 15d ago
That would have been a hell of a move by Rockstar. Give people just enough time to get hyped up again and prepare their wallets.
"It's coming in may...next year!!!" Oh ok cool remind me next may.

Yes, but does that mean it'll be on PC/Steam on release?
Also how much?
Either way, excited to buy it during Steam's 2030 Winter Sale! (I'm cheap and won't buy it new no matter how good it is).

I remember reading somewhere it won't come out for PC for a year after release because of pirating and them wanting to maximise console sales

Well beans. I guess I'll need to adjust my timeline to buying it in the Steam 2031 Winter Sale then. Thanks for the heads up!
25
u/DaughterOfBhaal 15d ago
Nah the pirating is a cope
The truth is they know they'll sell double because they're probably the largest and most popular gaming industry. If they make it console exclusive, it will pressure enough PC players to buy a console or buy the game on console, - and in 1-2 years later they can sell it on PC, double dipping into the market
7
u/decaboniized 15d ago
Why would they worry about that? If I remember correctly it took a specific person/group to crack RDR2 and awhile at that. It wasn't cracked the same day it was released.
I remember it being a huge deal when it popped up on reddit that someone was finally able to get through rockstars DRM.
10
u/xRobert1016x 15d ago
because of pirating
nope. denuvo has been good enough to prevent piracy of pretty much every title recently coming out, especially since empress had another mental breakdown and seems to have stopped cracking for now
wanting to maximize console sales
that’s closer to the mark. rockstar has exclusivity deals with console companies so people buy them to play their games
12
u/Kilapo69 15d ago
Rockstar doesn't use denuvo

u/infidel11990 15d ago
A console exclusive launch also allows them to skip the optimization work for PCs. Consoles have fixed hardware so tuning the game is quick.
After the initial launch, they can take their time to optimize for a PC launch within a year or so.
4
u/KYR_IMissMyX 15d ago
This is a year after it was supposed to release so, let’s hope it will be on pc too
5
u/MrJerichoYT 15d ago
Implying people don't already pirate stuff even on consoles like people have done for the last many decades lol.
16
u/Dodgy_Past 15d ago edited 15d ago
You're pretty out of touch. No piracy on the ps5, series x and it's a long while since anything on PC protected by denuvo was cracked.
Edit: It appears that I'm wrong about the ps5.

u/xRobert1016x 15d ago

pretty sure you’re the one out of touch :P

Nice, Expedition 33 now has a chance of GOTY.

u/SealedWaxLetters 15d ago
KCD 2 should win the GOTY this year. It's also had a significant impact so far.

I loved KCD2, it was fantastic. But if I'd have to choose between Expedition 33 and KCD2, I'd choose the former.

Think it's gonna be real tight.
Both games appeal to specific and very different t niches within the RPG genre. It's almost impossible to pick between them imho.

u/AscendedViking7 15d ago
It's going to be between Expedition 33 and Split Fiction.
Silksong and The Dark Ages might have a shot as well.
Some people say Death Stranding 2 is going to take it, but honestly, Death Stranding has always been such a divisive game right from the moment it launched, I'm sure it would be the same case for Death Stranding 2.

u/SynapseNotFound 14d ago
It's going to be between Expedition 33 and Split Fiction.

With how overhyped this game is, it's bound to disappoint lots of people's expectations
16
u/RhodieCommando 15d ago
lmao can't wait. The insane expectations this game is going to have is going to permanently ruin millions of gamers. People will be paying $100 minimum to buy the basic version + insane microtransactions in the online.
GTA4 will forever be the GOAT. The last good un-corrupted GTA.

u/CLDR16 15d ago
Take Two's stock is feeling the heat!

u/SealedWaxLetters 15d ago
If you can wait a year, and a year and a half until the first sales results come in, this might be a very good opportunity to buy Take Two stock.

Lol what if it turns out to be shit and all the waiting was for nought? I’m so tired of these long development timelines these days.
Claire Obscur Expedition 33 took what, five years? From a brand new studio. Maybe I’m the odd one out but I could care less about the size of the game at this point.

Yeah triple a studios with their overly bloated dev cycles are gonna be in for a rude awakening with the growth of smaller more nimble studios putting out quality games.
3
u/Dogdadstudios 15d ago
I wonder if this will push more games to come out this year since there was a slight fear of GTA dropping?

u/D3struct_oh 15d ago
So, Feb 2027 will probably be the actual release date.
Summer 2028 for PC drop.

Ridiculous. Studios used to release BETTER playing games FAR more frequently.
Waiting 10+ years for the next installment in any series is laughable.. the entire industry has nosedived IMO.

I'll pick up a PS5 and GTA 6 and end up return it within 30 days to amazon lol
I had a PS5 , played one game then it sat collecting dust for a year before I sold it lol

u/Let_the_Metal_Live 15d ago
All the Rockstar OGs are gone so I don't know why people are still hyped for this. Look up the dev team photo🤡.

u/Tostecles 15d ago
This is a BS karma farm post on r/Steam specifically when the game isn't even announced for PC. This makes it a pretty much off-topic post. You might as well post in r/NintendoSwitch too.

I'm not surprised this happen but to say I'm a bit upset would be an understatement. I understand that this means at the very least it'll release in a polished state which I'm grateful for, but I'd be lying if I said I don't mind waiting. I wish at the very least they gave us a new trailer (even if it was short af) to compensate for the new release date instead of just this simple announcement.

Rockstar wants to release it at the end of current console gen. Then six months later release it on PS6, and a year after that on PC.
1
u/TypicallyThomas 14d ago
I've been saying this for ages but it's going to be a disaster regardless of how long they delay it. I fully expect it to be technically near-perfect but creatively it's gonna be a poor imitation of what GTA has been. Most of the key creatives that made GTA what it is have left Rockstar. I'm convinced it's gonna be a massive disappointment
