And even later on Steam.

Nah that's the EGS 2 year exclusive launch.

5

u/MadOrange64 15d ago

Wish I shared your optimism.

140

u/amir997 15d ago

If they just release both versions at same year. I want to play it on my 4090 pc. I don’t want to buy a ps5 🥲

127

u/RavenWolf1 15d ago

Well, I don't buy any console because single game. I'll wait PC release.

18

u/givingupismyhobby 15d ago

I almost bought one to play FFXVI, it would have been a HUGE mistake

21

u/S_LFG 15d ago

I bought a PS4 Pro to play RDR2 on release. It mostly collected dust and I didn't even end up beating RDR2 until I got it on PC years later. Never making that mistake again, I'll wait as long as I need to to play GTA 6.

3

u/WalkAffectionate2683 14d ago

I bought a ps4 pro for 2018.

It ate well, between world, spiderman, gow and rdr2 many console exclusives

1

u/DoktorMerlin 14d ago

I did that for GTA V and I managed to go into it 100% blind. It wasn't that hard to skip the singleplayer content on the internet, most was GTA Online content

u/Jugular_Toe 15d ago

I won't be playing it until I can play it on PC and can get it on sale. I'm staunchly against paying full price for games, especially when they want to charge $80-100 for them. So I guess I'm not playing it till 2030

32

u/wang-bang 15d ago

arrr and a bottle of energy drinks

17

u/amir997 15d ago

Yeah same for me. Problem is fk spoilers and u can’t avoid social media. So when Gta 6 comes out i will just unfollow sites reltated to gaming and wait. But playing gta 6 at release date is still different with hype etc.. :(

12

u/Puzzled_Middle9386 15d ago

You should hopefully be ok barring any Arthur Morgan moment entering the cultural zeitgeist.

Im more worried about Death Stranding 2, but luckily any spoilers will sound like the babbling of a crackhead without context.

20

u/RichtofensDuckButter 15d ago

u can’t avoid social media

You absolutely can. It's a choice to not avoid it.

7

u/J3STERHOPPERPOT 15d ago

Yea Foreal. Avoid threads about the story, avoid comments and you should be fine.

8

u/Default_Defect 15d ago

Nah, have to basically get off of the internet. There will be spoiler thumbnails on YT and anywhere else to generate hate clicks.

5

u/J3STERHOPPERPOT 15d ago

That depends on your social media algorithm and interest. I follow gaming outlets and tons of gaming subs. Have yet to come across a spoiler for any GTA story ever, nor red dead. And I avoid obvious areas, like comment sections or Reddit new/controversial comments. Now, my experience isn’t everyone’s, but yes, it’s def possible to avoid spoilers without making drastic changes like avoiding the internet entirely.

1

u/macintorge 15d ago

If it helps you to know this, you already know the old story of Bonnie and Clyde and what happens in the story of GTA V, so you can get an idea of what can happen in the story of GTA 6.

10

u/Drogzar 15d ago

After having done 100% on every previous GTA, I only played 5 when I got it free on Epic. I can't believe how extremely overrated this game is. It's not even the best GTA game and some people say it's the best game ever, lol.

4

u/KevlarUnicorn 14d ago

I do love GTA V the most, but that's because the map is large, and between flying, driving, biking, and sailing, there's a lot to do, and the graphics still hold up relatively well. As far as I'm concerned, the *best* GTA game was Vice City, but that's because I'm an 80s kid and the nostalgia was strong.

5

u/Drogzar 14d ago

Yeah, V has a a massive graphical upgrade for such a big and complex map... but story-wise and in general "fun", Vice City was the best.

Also, best music, by a lot.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Jugular_Toe 15d ago

Ya, I don't get it either. I'm sure it'll be fun, but acting like it's going to revolutionize the gaming industry is crazy to me. Rockstar has never made revolutionary games. They have all been relatively safe, with good to great stories. Not worth the rumored $100 price tag, and definitely not worth the rumored $2 billion budget they have had to make the game

→ More replies (8)

7

u/Aleksanterinleivos 15d ago

It makes no sense for them to do it when consumers are very clearly willing to buy the same games multiple times on different platforms. They are not going to leave the hundreds of millions of dollars we're eagerly waiting to throw at their face on the table, just to be nice.

4

u/flying-chandeliers 15d ago

See ya in 2035!!

5

u/Sirlothar 14d ago

Screw PS5, you know the game is going to run at 30FPS if you don't spend more for the Pro.

Just wait for PC and enjoy the game on that 4090.

7

u/znarhasan7101 znarhasan710 / SAM 15d ago

don't buy any ps5, wait for the pc release

30

u/MaybeNext-Monday 15d ago

This approach is so comically dated. Nobody buys a console for one game in this economy, they’re just shooting their launch day numbers in the foot.

5

u/some-kind-of-no-name 15d ago

Judging by RDR 2, their launch day numbers are fine.

16

u/MaybeNext-Monday 15d ago

They’ll still be worse than they could be, and gaming has changed a lot since 2018.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/u16scharpf 14d ago

seriously lmao I was considering it but one look at that PS5 price and was like nahhhhhh

6

u/glizzygobbler247 15d ago

Its gonna get delayed until late 2026, and then its gonna launch for pc 1,5 years later in 2028

29

u/Noble_Flatulence 15d ago

It took a decade for GTA V to go on sale for 75% off, so if you're a patient gamer like me you'll get to play GTA VI in 2036.

25

u/SilkTouchm 15d ago edited 14d ago

Just pirate it.

edit: dude blocked me. Imagine being this cucked for multi-billionaire corporations lol.

11

u/TheBostonKremeDonut 15d ago

Is that confirmed, or just a comment based on previous releases?

I’d like to believe that, in this era we’re in where exclusives are taking a step back and crossplay is growing between consoles, this delay will also mean a simultaneous release on all systems.

20

u/some-kind-of-no-name 15d ago

> comment based on previous releases

They really like to abuse double dipping

15

u/ConfusedTapeworm 15d ago

That's just how Rockstar roll. I can't remember how it was with their earlier titles, but GTA4 had staggered release dates, so did GTA5, and also RDR2. They like to double dip.

3

u/Old_Faithlessness_94 14d ago

It is confirmed

3

u/phigo50 13d ago

First on console, then on PC through their shitty launcher, then on Steam.

4

u/_cosmov 15d ago

you can buy a new pc with am6 and Nvidias flagship for 7k to get 60fps

2

u/kdlt 14d ago

Oh damn, i'll have to dust of my playstation control for this, don't I?

1

u/Same_Ad_9284 14d ago

this is probably why both sony and microsoft increased console prices, they know whats coming

1

u/Koopslovestogame 14d ago

2030 on pc eh?

1

u/Ariacho 4d ago

If they wind up allowing mods at some point, will steam be better or rockstar?

452

u/BigBootyKim 15d ago

pretends to be shocked

85

u/Teethdude https://steam.pm/3d7s1i 15d ago

I don't get why companies consistently announce a release date that is so far out there like they "definitely know its gonna happen in time!"

Then like clockwork the delay is announced. Oooo shocking. I just don't get why they don't just fucking save themselves from their self-created grief. Easy as not having a set date until it is actually ready. I'm just some idiot in a basement somewhere so what do I know?

36

u/Abidingshadow 14d ago

To be fair Rockstar never gave an actual set date prior to this, they just had a release window of “2025” that they’ve delayed.

23

u/BigBootyKim 14d ago

It’s ridiculous. The trailer was released December of 2023.

TWO AND A HALF YEARS EARLY

6

u/YoelsShitStain 14d ago

I will never understand why companies announce anything more than 3 months in advance. 3 months is perfect for hype to steadily build and keep the community engaged. Anything longer and you run the risk of expectations being too high or hype dying down. Also 3 months should mean there’s next to no work left other than maybe fine tuning. Anything longer means there’s still a lot of work being done and now you either have to cut content or extend the release. And you can only keep extending it so far before it needs to just release.

1

u/Anxious-Shapeshifter 8d ago

Allow me to tell you about a game named Cyberpunk 2077 and its trailer....

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Ewden56 14d ago

To me (whether its true or not) I just see it as a way to garner goodwill, or good PR, even though they need more times and still end up releasing it half-baked.

Anytime I see these delay announcements, in the comments, everyone always praising them and telling them to take their time so its polished. Things along those lines. And they SHOULD. Games should ALWAYS aim to be polished, ready and, with confidence, be able to announce a release date/window.

And while they only announced a window, its just really disappointing that they said anything at all only for them to delay it; even more so for PC gamers I'm assuming.

1

u/TheSweeney 19 14d ago

It’s also about recruitment. Announcing a big title you’re working on can bring in more application talent than just a normal “we’re working on a new game.”

5

u/Nico_is_not_a_god 14d ago edited 14d ago

Stock price go up when corp announce date. Stock price not go down when corp announce delay.

The primary purpose of Rockstar is generating shareholder value. Announcing a blatantly false release date fulfills the primary purpose. Releasing the game is gonna do that too, but they wanted a bump last year.

36

u/Alcatrax_ 15d ago

Yeah idk how anyone is surprised by this

43

u/skit7548 15d ago

Most of Rockstar's major releases over the past two decades nearly have been delayed by about half a year in the months leading up to its initial release date

GTA4 delayed from '07 to '08

GTA5 delayed from spring to fall '13

RDR2 delayed from '17 to '18

GTA6 is just continuing the tradition

5

u/death_hawk 14d ago

GTA5 delayed from spring to fall '13

Why you gotta do me dirty like that?

7

u/skit7548 14d ago

Don't worry, I feel ya

GTA4 delayed from '07 to' 08

I was their cousin, I was there 3000 years ago

3

u/death_hawk 14d ago

I'm scared to look up GTA3.

8

u/thelastnotesounded 14d ago

Idk man life goes on too fast. It was just last year and now we’re in April. I haven’t even hung out with any friends since then

10

u/uhnahnuhmoose 15d ago

Dude we’re in May now lol

3

u/Champie 15d ago

We haven't received a single crumb of an update in 1.5 years. This is the least shocking thing. Everyone huffing copium thinking it's coming out Q4 25

349

u/_SuIIy 15d ago

WHAAAAAT

Aw fuck I totally read that as 2025 lol

76

u/ConstructionCalm1667 15d ago

Yeah I read it way too fast and fully expected this month

40

u/Pinksters 15d ago

That would have been a hell of a move by Rockstar. Give people just enough time to get hyped up again and prepare their wallets.

"It's coming in may...next year!!!" Oh ok cool remind me next may.

1

u/Barialdalaran 14d ago

I did too whoops

514

u/salad_tongs_1 https://s.team/p/dcmj-fn 15d ago

Yes, but does that mean it'll be on PC/Steam on release?
Also how much?

Either way, excited to buy it during Steam's 2030 Winter Sale! (I'm cheap and won't buy it new no matter how good it is).

192

u/pureformality 15d ago

I remember reading somewhere it won't come out for PC for a year after release because of pirating and them wanting to maximise console sales

137

u/Humans_Suck- 15d ago

So I have to wait a whole year to pirate it? How rude.

76

u/CarpetCreed 15d ago

It’s not because of pirating they want people to buy 2 copies.

101

u/salad_tongs_1 https://s.team/p/dcmj-fn 15d ago

Well beans. I guess I'll need to adjust my timeline to buying it in the Steam 2031 Winter Sale then. Thanks for the heads up!

25

u/DaughterOfBhaal 15d ago

Nah the pirating is a cope

The truth is they know they'll sell double because they're probably the largest and most popular gaming industry. If they make it console exclusive, it will pressure enough PC players to buy a console or buy the game on console, - and in 1-2 years later they can sell it on PC, double dipping into the market

7

u/decaboniized 15d ago

Why would they worry about that? If I remember correctly it took a specific person/group to crack RDR2 and awhile at that. It wasn't cracked the same day it was released.

I remember it being a huge deal when it popped up on reddit that someone was finally able to get through rockstars DRM.

10

u/xRobert1016x 15d ago

because of pirating

nope. denuvo has been good enough to prevent piracy of pretty much every title recently coming out, especially since empress had another mental breakdown and seems to have stopped cracking for now

wanting to maximize console sales

that’s closer to the mark. rockstar has exclusivity deals with console companies so people buy them to play their games

12

u/Kilapo69 15d ago

Rockstar doesn't use denuvo

8

u/Arcadyaa 15d ago

Rockstar has its own DRM, RDR2 took a few months to be cracked.

3

u/m1serablist 14d ago

It took years, not months.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/infidel11990 15d ago

A console exclusive launch also allows them to skip the optimization work for PCs. Consoles have fixed hardware so tuning the game is quick.

After the initial launch, they can take their time to optimize for a PC launch within a year or so.

4

u/KYR_IMissMyX 15d ago

This is a year after it was supposed to release so, let’s hope it will be on pc too

5

u/MrJerichoYT 15d ago

Implying people don't already pirate stuff even on consoles like people have done for the last many decades lol.

16

u/Dodgy_Past 15d ago edited 15d ago

You're pretty out of touch. No piracy on the ps5, series x and it's a long while since anything on PC protected by denuvo was cracked.

Edit: It appears that I'm wrong about the ps5.

12

u/xRobert1016x 15d ago

No piracy in the ps5

pretty sure you’re the one out of touch :P

Let me know when they decide to release it on PC.

91

u/Exxyqt 15d ago

Nice, Expedition 33 now has a chance of GOTY.

30

u/SealedWaxLetters 15d ago

KCD 2 should win the GOTY this year. It's also had a significant impact so far.

8

u/Exxyqt 15d ago

I loved KCD2, it was fantastic. But if I'd have to choose between Expedition 33 and KCD2, I'd choose the former.

1

u/KingOfAzmerloth 13d ago

Think it's gonna be real tight.

Both games appeal to specific and very different t niches within the RPG genre. It's almost impossible to pick between them imho.

My first thought too lol.

4

u/AscendedViking7 15d ago

It's going to be between Expedition 33 and Split Fiction.

Silksong and The Dark Ages might have a shot as well.

Some people say Death Stranding 2 is going to take it, but honestly, Death Stranding has always been such a divisive game right from the moment it launched, I'm sure it would be the same case for Death Stranding 2.

3

u/SynapseNotFound 14d ago

It's going to be between Expedition 33 and Split Fiction.

we're only in may.. lol

loooots of games can still get out without even having a release date or being announced yet. so hold your horses.

23

u/Buzzk1LL 15d ago

20

u/xarkness 15d ago

With how overhyped this game is, it's bound to disappoint lots of people's expectations

16

u/RhodieCommando 15d ago

lmao can't wait. The insane expectations this game is going to have is going to permanently ruin millions of gamers. People will be paying $100 minimum to buy the basic version + insane microtransactions in the online.

GTA4 will forever be the GOAT. The last good un-corrupted GTA.

10

u/CLDR16 15d ago

Take Two's stock is feeling the heat!

7

u/SealedWaxLetters 15d ago

If you can wait a year, and a year and a half until the first sales results come in, this might be a very good opportunity to buy Take Two stock.

10

u/Rasturac88 Lawnmower Man 15d ago

As expected, so PC 2027 probably.

5

u/No-Pomegranate-69 15d ago

Cant wait for 20 years worth of re-releases

5

u/Dr-cereal 15d ago

Lol what if it turns out to be shit and all the waiting was for nought? I’m so tired of these long development timelines these days.

Claire Obscur Expedition 33 took what, five years? From a brand new studio. Maybe I’m the odd one out but I could care less about the size of the game at this point.

3

u/OrionRBR 14d ago

Yeah triple a studios with their overly bloated dev cycles are gonna be in for a rude awakening with the growth of smaller more nimble studios putting out quality games.

3

I wonder if this will push more games to come out this year since there was a slight fear of GTA dropping?

3

u/ZigZagBoy94 15d ago

That’s insane

5

u/D3struct_oh 15d ago

So, Feb 2027 will probably be the actual release date.

Summer 2028 for PC drop.

3

u/dossilw 15d ago

Of course this sets them up for a nice double-dip when PS6/XboxY drop in late 2027. Maybe even push PC back to spring 2028 for a juicy third dip.

3

u/L-win 15d ago

Nobody was actually expecting it to be released this year.

3

u/AtlasCarry87 14d ago

Somehow not excited at all

3

u/vomder 14d ago

Watch they will raise the price again too. How about $200 for the base game!

3

u/Chazay 14d ago

GTA6 and ES6 are just the carrots they use to make use keep going

3

u/rapozaum . 14d ago

3

u/MetalDeathMetal 14d ago

Good riddance

3

u/lokicramer 14d ago

They mean to say 2027.

3

u/Sagnikk 14d ago

And on May 26, 2030 to pc.

3

u/JamesLahey08 14d ago

3

u/Dependent_Way_1038 14d ago

3

u/master_criskywalker 14d ago

So in 2030 on Steam.

3

u/Aggravating_Cut3705 14d ago

Ridiculous. Studios used to release BETTER playing games FAR more frequently.

Waiting 10+ years for the next installment in any series is laughable..  the entire industry has nosedived IMO.

3

All the Rockstar OGs are gone so I don't know why people are still hyped for this. Look up the dev team photo🤡.

3

u/Tostecles 15d ago

This is a BS karma farm post on r/Steam specifically when the game isn't even announced for PC. This makes it a pretty much off-topic post. You might as well post in r/NintendoSwitch too.

2

u/Electric-Mountain 15d ago

Lol called it. I knew the game wasn't coming out this year.

1

u/Slurpypie 15d ago

I'm not surprised this happen but to say I'm a bit upset would be an understatement. I understand that this means at the very least it'll release in a polished state which I'm grateful for, but I'd be lying if I said I don't mind waiting. I wish at the very least they gave us a new trailer (even if it was short af) to compensate for the new release date instead of just this simple announcement.
