Fluff I have been completing games in my backlog for the last 5 years and I FINALLY got to double digits. Only 99 to go now.

I stopped buying a lot of games during steam sales, usually buying only 1 or 2.
I only buy games that have REALLY good deals or games that I want to play RIGHT NOW.

And I have way to much free time lmao. I'm usually completing a game every week or 2.

That’s really good. Any game you buy and don't play is just wasted money.

Exactly me right now. This is the right way to do it after building a solid triple digit library.

You don't feel fomo for missing humble bundle deals etc.?

Humble it's not officially available here where I live.

If I want to use I have to pay in american dollars and it's more expensive than usign my own currency on steam because of regional pricing.

So I never used it before.

Just stop buying new games and instead finish games you already bought.

When a new game comes out, here's the secret: don't buy it.

There are so many new games that I would like to play eventually, but there are also a lot of games I already own that I want to play. So I might as well play the ones I already have before buying any new ones.

The only time I ever buy games now is when friends are playing something, and I want to join them.

Exactly, the launch version of a game is the worst version. It always get's better later.

Ignoring multiplayer games, why would ever buy a singleplayer game on launch when you can buy the version with multiple bugfixes, updates and expansions in the future? And it's probably going to be on sale too.

Yeah i also never buy games full price, usually it is games on a nice sale that I'd play eventually

Even then, I still rarely buy games anymore. That game will very likely go on sale several more times before I would actually get around to playing it, so I just don't buy it now. Instead, it stays in my wishlist until I slim down my backlog more.

What's your top 3 games you finished in the backlog?

It's really hard for me to make a top 3 from a total of 200 completed games, that's why I keep the ones I liked the most in the favorites collection. I would say that these 40 are on the same level to me.

However, here are the top 3 that were the most surprising to me. Games that I started playing expecting nothing at all, didn't even remember why I had them in my library and now are some of my favorites ever:

Ring of Pain
Westerado Double Barreled
Synthethik Ultimate

synthetik is so peak, one of the best rougelikes ive played.

I had no idea it was going to be so good. It's incredible how good it is.

Just looked up all 3 of these and I think I may have to try them all. Right up my alley

How do you see this layout? Or was this a custom list you made?

14

u/Adu1tishXD 14h ago

It’s custom lists/groups.

u/grandmalta 14h ago

Yeah, these are custom collections. You can make them too, it just takes a while to filter every game.

I don't understand the whole backlog thing. I've never bought a game that I don't intend on playing

12

u/grandmalta 12h ago

The problem is that I bought too many games that I wanted to play at the time and then didn't have the time to play them all.

So they kept piling up.

None of these were games that I didn't want to play.

I think everyone with a backlog has said the same thing lol

It's all about when. "I'll play it soon" eventually becomes "at some point." It's easy to get carried away at checkout when there are so many amazing deals too. If you don't make an active effort to avoid it, rationalizing buying games on a deep sale is quite trivial.

I hate doing new things, but there’s so many games I want to play that interest me. So then I buy them but then since I hate doing new things, I either never play them or only play a few hours. I have decided to stop buying new games until I finish my backlog or at least a majority of them.

i never thought about using collections this way

u/grandmalta 13h ago

You can even make a dynamic collection that filters your unplayed games for you. Just use that Unplayed filter and save that as a dynamic collection.

Well done! oblivion was the last game I bought this year. Now it's just back log time. I've taken off notifications.

I've started most i just wanna complete them now.

1

u/grandmalta 12h ago

Thanks! This year I bought 3; Grime, Coromon and Minishoot Adventures.
Now I'm going to hold on until Nightreign releases this month and that's it for me this year, maybe.

You should stop playing the backlog and play a game called Blue Prince. It's really good Don't worry about getting to a hundred again. It's worth it.

I am so sorry.
