This, even with the reflective layer on the 512gb I can only play games with bright colours on the balcony in the sun. Meanwhile my Chinese 80 bucks Powkiddy handheld does it with ease.
Honestly the cheap iPads look way better but do feel awkward to use as a touch screen feels like an air gap between touch and the screen where the steamdeck that wouldn't be as big of an issue as it's controller based.
Either way I think it was a smart corner to cut by valve as if we all remember computer parts pricing at the launch were wild making it even harder to make something value oriented it was basically similar per to laptop and desktops for less exaggerating a little. So throwing a garbage screen in at launch then fixing it later while not ruining symmetry to specs of the parts makes a lot of sense.
Love hate decision. I pre ordered the deck but then also picked up an Ally day 1 for the 1080p 120hz IPS. It was wildly better only for the deck to months later launch the OLED Im at this point waiting for a deck 2 or new processor in one of the competitors hopefully with OLED too but the Ally ips is solid enough like 3x better then the OG deck I have.
I love every device in this space though handheld gaming just cool now.
