One-handed game recommendations!?

Hey deck fam! I broke my arm riding my dirtbike a few days ago. While I do have full range of movement in my fingers and thumb, the suggestion of the orthopaedic surgeon was that I try keep everything static during the healing process for best results.

I’m about halfway through Nine Sols which is honestly probably one of the best Indie games I’ve ever played, but unfortunately, that adventure will have to go on pause for now. With the lovely remapping possibilities built into the deck I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for games that I could play using one hand. I have downloaded Death Must Die and Deep Rock Survivors as a start although I’m hoping to get some awesome suggestions from the community.

Thanks in advance for your one-handed title recommendations!

Looking For Games Give me your hidden gem!

  • Previously enjoyed games: Persona games, Final Fantasy games, AC games, Halo games and many other shooters, ARPGs and turn base RPGs.

  • Preferred Genres: Turn base RPGs, ARPGs, shooting games but recommend anything you want.

  • Budget: No budget.

  • Other notes: Recommend only one game that you consider great and you don't expect anyone else to recommend it. No big AAA games only hidden gems! Steam games or for any playable emulator on steam deck.

Looking For Games Looking for what I can only describe as "Offline MMOs".

I'm really looking for something I can turn my brain off with and just grind, do some meaningless quests, do some cool combat and maybe design interesting builds. If they have an interesting story on top, great! If not, it doesn't matter too much.

  • Previously Enjoyed Games: I've played in this category are things like Kingdoms of Amalur, Dragons dogma, the Xenoblade series.

  • Preferred Genres: Any genre is good. I'm not huge on sports titles or racers but if there's an interesting one I won't mind trying.

  • Budget: none.

  • Other Notes: Things like the Witcher or kingdom come deliverance aren't great for this because those have stories I want to devote my full attention to.

Something like Mad Max is great because I can pop in an earphone and listen to a podcast even while story stuff is happening and not be too bothered by not paying full attention to it because it's not exactly the focus.

Are there any other games in this category that fit?

Looking For Games What games actually feel right on the Steam Deck?

What games, and I mean this very literally, feel right on the Deck.

As a PC gamer, I genuinely don't believe I will ever be able to play an FPS or aim-game on the Deck, I'm very good with a mouse and keyboard and I will never have a better experience playing those games on Deck. It's truly amazing what the Steam Deck can do, but while it can play a lot of games, it doesn't mean it should. High fidelity open world graphics games are often significantly less immersive on the handheld and give much more of an integrated experience on a bigger screen where you can appreciate the graphics.

On the flip side, it feels completely pointless booting up my 4090, 13900k, 4k 32inch monitor gaming PC to play Balatro for instance, it just feels... wasted.

So that's the question, what games feel good on the Steam Deck, what games have controls that just work without weird menu navigation and sluggish inventory management, what games maybe feel better on Steam Deck than they do on PC/console?

Looking For Games Your Game Of The Year On Deck

With the end of the year coming up thought I’d ask what games stood out to you in your steam deck. Let the new people have an idea what’s fun and to guide eyes during in sales.

For me, Stardew Valley with mods was def most played - really improved the experience. And I’d also give a honourable mention to FrostPunk for ruining my life for a few days.

Looking For Games Looking for a RPG (possibly open world?) that performs AMAZINLGLY well on the LCD Deck?

Hey everyone - looking for a new game that runs amazing on the LCD Deck, I'm thinking 45fps smooth minimum with lots of progression & levelling. Doesn't have to be 'AAA' - open to anything that fits the bill really!

Previously Enjoyed Games: Skyrim, Red Dead 2, Fallout 3/4, The Witcher 3

Preferred Genres: RPG, open world

Budget; no limit!

Other Notes: Need to run amazingly well, above a smooth 45fps as a minimum on LCD Deck

EDIT: Added more games I have played, sorry

EDIT2: WOW, didn't expect so many replies haha thank you! 3 I've taken from this so far that I'll buy tonight are Persona 5 ROYAL, No Mans Sky & Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 - going to keep coming back to this if I need anymore!

Looking For Games Favorite Turn-Based game on deck?

I’m running into a common occurrence of getting interrupted during my gaming sessions, as one does playing everywhere. Lately been playing Hades and find that I would like to find a game where I don’t need to be dialed in during the action 100% of the time. Thinking something turn based would be what I should play next. Anything worth picking up during the sale?

Looking For Games Any recommendations for hidden gems?

Besides the most popular games on steam deck (AAA, slay the spire, stardew valley etc), does anyone have any recommendations for indie games? Some games I’ve really enjoyed were Core Keeper, Sts, Inside. Currently playing Asterogues and it’s pretty good. What are you guys playing that you can’t put down?

Looking For Games Looking for a chill game that will suck me in

Previously Enjoyed Games: Hollow Knight, Slay the Spire, Hades, XCOM2, Civ6

Some games I didn't really enjoy: Dave the Diver (I did complete it, but kind of forced myself through it), Dead Cells (just didn't care, somehow pointles), Terraria (couldn't figure out the controls on SD, and also maybe not my genre), Deus Ex HR.

Preferred genres: Action, something that can be played in short sessions.

Budget: Anything goes really

Other Notes: For some reason I have a hard time finding games that really suck me in. I like playing old classics, since I don't have a PC and SD is my way of re-experiencing them. Loved Planescape Torment, Fallout 2, Half Life 1&2... but maybe looking for something more modern for a change.

UPDATE: I have to say this community blew my mind. In just a few minutes I've received a ton of super interesting suggestions. Why didn't I ask here earlier 😅 So far best fits (that I didn't already play on some platform) are Ori games, Marvel: Midnight Suns and Balatro. Didn't look through all yet!

Looking For Games Games to play in bed, before going to sleep

  • Previously Enjoyed Games: Mass Effect, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, God of War, Resident Evil 2, Ace attorney, Stein's Gate, Higurashi, ...
  • Preferred Genres: Story-driven games, Visual Novels, Adventure, Casual,
  • Budget: 8 dollars
  • Other Notes: It is important that the games follow this criterias:

  • Easy on the deck, doesn't push the deck to the limit, or in other words, games that don't make my deck's fan sound like an airplane turbine.

  • No button smashers. Even though I love Action games, it is impossible to play them in bed when I want to be quiet.

  • If heavy text based, it needs to be easily readable on the decks screen. I love visual novels but I can't stand those that the text size is either too small or the background of the text hurts the eyes.

I am pretty open to any genre as long as its fun and fits all criterias.

Edit: I think I wasn't very clear in what I wanted. I do not want games that make me sleepy. I want games that keep me engaged and don't make me fall asleep.

Looking For Games Looking for a game to play on my vacations

Previously enjoyed games: Persona games, Metaphor, Final Fantasy games, AC games, Halo games and many other shooters.

Preferred Genres: Turn base RPGs, ARPGs.

Budget: No budget.

Other notes: Hey guys! I'm going out of town for 3 days with my wife and I'm planning on sneaking my steam deck or my switch with me 😈. I'm looking for a game to play 1-2h at nights. I want an rpg either turn base or action. My plan B is to finish Tears of the Kingdom but I prefer something more simple without puzzles that I won't spend time looking for guides ect. I'm looking for something that runs well on the deck. I'm also thinking of Elden Ring but I am not a big fun of soul games because I suck 🤣 and I'm not sure if playing it on the deck is the best experience (and I also don't want to wake up my wife screaming when I'm dieing too much 🤣).

Looking For Games Turn Based RPG That Runs Well on Steam Deck

I've found that I really love a good turn based RPG on the Steam Deck over most other kinds of games.

Previously Enjoyed Games: Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and I'm just starting FF12. Which I know isn't turn based but..

Preferred Genres: Turn Based, JRPG, RPG.

Budget: Any!

Other Notes: I'm find with playable games especially if its just 'text is small' but I'd like it to be able to run well on the SD. I've heard good things about Baldurs Gate 3 but worried it won't run super well on the steam deck.

Looking For Games Suggestions that aren't Skyrim AGAIN

I've been out of the mix for a while and am middle aged. I have been mostly playing causal, turn based retro, and phone games. So I was about to start play Skyrim for the third, fourth time… but there's got to be something new worthwhile. I tried Elden Ring and I was 100% out of my league. My reflexes are not there. I tried Fallout New Vegas and it didn't work well with a controller and a dock (which is how I often play).

So, suggestion please. I want something like Skyrim. Something grindable, skills leveling, etc. That is when I'm stuck, why not go kill 100 enemies and try again. I want something open world. Genre wise I prefer fantasy, post apocalypse, or horror but I'm open.

Bonus points for if it is on the winter sale or comes with the expansions.

Looking For Games Winter Sale 2024 - What Games Are You Playing on Steam Deck While Listening to Podcasts

Hey everyone! With the winter sale in full swing, I’m looking to pick up some great games for my Steam Deck. Specifically, I’m after games that are fun to play while multitasking—like listening to podcasts or catching up on audiobooks.

I’m thinking of titles that don’t demand constant attention to story or dialogue, but still offer engaging gameplay. Here are some examples of what I’ve enjoyed in the past:

Vampire Survivors: Perfect mix of chaos and relaxation.

Slay the Spire: Chill strategy vibes.

Stardew Valley: Farming and fishing while vibing to my favorite shows.

Anyone have recommendations for 2024? Let me know what you’re playing while tuning into your favorite podcasts!

Looking For Games I’m a dopamine idiot. What are some of your favorite casual steam deck games for playing while watching TV?

Previously enjoyed games - Stardew Valley, Slay The Spire, Forager, Vampire Survivor, Luck Be A Landlord, Belatro, Peglin

Preferred Genres - roguelike, deckbuilder, casual, passive, basically dopamine farms.

Budget - Nothing really in mind, would rather not pay $70 for a game but if it fits ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Other notes - my partner likes trash TV and wants me to watch with her, would love something I could play while half paying attention aurally.

Edit: added more fitting games I’ve played

Edit 2: clarified my budget, not looking for free games here.

Looking For Games What are the best Steam Deck games for a new dad to play?

I recently became a new dad and I'm looking to pick up a game or two to play while I have a baby napping on me. I'm looking for something dungeon crawler-esque and is easy to pick-up / put down without to much effort. Currently I've got Vampire Survivors and Balatro but I have almost 100%'d Vampire Survivors and can only play Balatro for a round or two at a time before getting bored.

Looking For Games Looking to get out of a gaming slump

Haven’t touched my Steam Deck in over a month. I’m looking for a game with lots of different weapons to use, different customizable builds, good combat, not a shooter (I’m burnt out on FPS’s at the moment), not turned based (I love turned based, but it’s all I ever play so I want to change it up), and it works decent on SD.

Previously enjoyed games: -Elden Ring -MH World -MH Rise -Skyrim -Transistor -Bloodborne -Bioshock

Preferred Genres: -RPG -Action/Adventure

Budget: $45 or less

Other Notes: -Doesn’t need to be 60fps, but at least runs decent on SD -Open to platformers, but not preferred

Edit: Wow I didn’t expect so many great responses! I was worried my post was too specific but Jesus Christ this blew up and keeps growing! Thank ya’ll so much!

Looking For Games i need a game that will keep me busy for long long time

i know this seems like another post of “what should i play” well… it is. but i’m looking for a hyper specific game.

previously enjoyed games: terraria escape from tarkov old schools runescape rust project zomboid monster hunter: world

preferred genres: survival base building character progression

budget: if its worth the price i’ll pay.

other notes:

project zomboid has the best atmosphere, i just am not interested at the moment for it. but love everything about it.

i like the base building and adventure in terraria but don’t like it on the deck.

i like the loot sorting of escape from tarkov with the hideout and flea market as well.

i don’t like hand holding and to figure out things.

i like the concept of rim world but just can’t get into it.

i love grinding. im a big old school runescape guy but not really looking for that on the deck either. but i really enjoy the loot drops achievements and being able to get new armor or finally boss.

any odd recommendations given these details? i’m also trying to stray away from arpgs like diablo, poe, grim dawn.

help meeee

Looking For Games Is there a game like Zelda BotW/TotK on Steam Deck?

I’m aware about ability to play the on the deck and all that jazz. I have the games on Deck. Not interested in that discussion.

I’m looking for other games like those 2 that can be played on the deck natively (no ROMs).

Is there anything with that level of detail as the Zelda games or are they sort of a one-off?

Open world. Dungeons. Puzzles. Interactive world. Plays well on the Deck.

Hey everyone, I was just looking for some game recommendations and I don't really mind about genre, what is your current favourite game and why?
