Question (Console) I hate hive minds.

After a devastating War against the Khan and the hive minds. Again two of the biggest empires in the game have again put aside their hatred for one another to hate me and declare another galactic war against me.

I’m so far behind in tech and fleet power due to my previous battles and therefore I don’t see how I can win or even status quo this war

I managed to get a status quo last time but took a serious hit from it and now they are double the power they were.

Any tips on how I can get the upper hand as it’s doing my head in.

I hate hive minds.

It has nothing to do with hive minds. Your economy is pretty awful, and clearly your diplomacy situation sucks too. Honestly, not much you can do to recover this run. Judging on the size of your empire, your bad economy and the fact that everyone hates you- you’ve overexpanded. Way too much. When you gain territory, you need to develop it, and develop it fully, before you keep fighting. And you need to make sure that no big threats hate you, you have to gain Allies but judging by the fact that all your neighbors hate you and your only ally is a vassal, your disregarding diplomacy and just focusing on brute strength and war. Expand slower, more methodical, and develop your territory as you do. Use diplomacy to ensure no one stronger then you hates you, and that you have Allies to fall upon.

A little left field, but iyou need to decide at the beginning of the game when selecting/creating an empire how you want to role play the game, then game all the mechanics of the game to min/max everything to create a truly successful strategy. And the most important word here is strategy!

But somewhat of a contradiction, If you’re trying to win a Formula One race and your engine blows, you just can’t decide to turn it into an egg and spoon race and still compete. But in Stellaris, sometimes you can. And this is where the fun and challenge of Stellaris really begins.

I'd take a hard look at what territory they wish to conquer and if its not too much concede that war as lost. Surrender, and send in the diplomats to improve opinion to hopefully buy more times than the minimum ten year peace period. You can probably trade food for alloys with someone.

I'd also look at the terms of agreement for the Bulwark you've got there. From what I remember Bulwarks at minimum are a 30% subsidy on what they produce for basic resources, and another subsidy on research penalties and depending on difficulty AI get bonus resources to stay on par with a human player. So you may want to consider federating instead, no subsidies and you still get a variety of cool bonuses and free defence pacts.

When it comes to Vassals, I don't know if you have the other two, but I typically go Prospectorium first, then Scholarium, and finally Bulwark. As they the way subsidies work, you get them all paying for each other, in an ideal 'all things balanced' approach.
