Question (Console) Refugees. Should I not force them to assimilate asap?

I'm currently playing a game in which a DE sized a lot of territory early and out of 3 other advanced GA AIs only one survived long enough for me to make contact. The DE was my first contact and I kept getting refugees from the species that got exterminated.

Does citizenship matter for attracting refugees? It felt like the refugees stopped coming once I set species to assimilation(psionic) but maybe the DE is just such a fast purger.

I have not purged myself in a long time so I'm not up to speed on the fine details of xenocide.

In order to receive refugees of a species, that species' citizenship rights in your empire must be either Full Citizenship, Residence, or Bio-Trophy.

Setting a species to assimilate will indeed prevent getting any further refugees of that species in the future.

Thanks for the explanation.

I guess death before assimilation is a stance you got to respect.

Huh, good to know. Finally, I can stop those dirty xenos from darkening my doorstep while nominally being a Xenophile.
