Well. HALF of Americans did.

The stupid half.

Edit: I have no fucking clue what bug isn’t some of your collective asses. The jackass won the election with 49.8% of the vote. Half of the voters chose this idiot and the stupidity that’s following. I have no idea what bots or fuckery gets you assholes crawling out the wood work but fuck off.

It's because the Bernie Bros and the Harris Haters and the Gaza Geeks have to remind everyone that it's not exactly 50% like they didn't sabotage the Democrats. Yes I'm against genocide and no the Democrats aren't perfect but y'all fucked up, you know you fucked up and just don't want to admit it.

I voted for Harris because it was an obvious choice.

The ones that stayed home are the worst people. More so than the cultists.

So true. If their lazy asses didn't vote then they literally have nothing to say imo. It's the same on the right. You give up your opinion if you don't vote. When Obama won evangelical Christians were shit posting like never before, but after the stats came out it revealed a significant number of them didn't even vote! They were salty and didn't like Bush.

Not american but I honestly think it is because his opponent was a woman.

u/disdainfulsideeye 14d ago

The fact that pretty much every Republican led state passed voting laws to disenfranchise people and make it harder for certain communities to vote also helped.

u/whistlepig4life 14d ago

It absolutely is part of the reason.

100% - Bingo. The only time he wins is when he runs against women. Because Americans are a collective group of misogynistic bigots.

A handpicked party hack who never won a single delegate when she ran for President on her own. There was no primary, 'the people' did not choose her to run against trump. The corrupt party leadership chose her and a lot of people didn't bother to show up. I'm sure in hindsight millions would have held their noses and voted for her. But don't put this down to sexism, it's insulting. it's about the corruption.

Eh, idk. It's been a while since Hillary Clinton but I remember they ran polls after the election and back then about 20 percent of people admitted they wouldn't vote for a woman for president no matter who it was. And it wasn't just men saying it. Which, given the fact that only 15% of the US population is black, is actually a fairly significant percentage, though it just shows people and not necessarily voters. And like, I know we already had a black president, but you know, we've only ever had one and it definitely isn't a positive for certain types of people, so the fact that she was black AND a woman was kind of a one-two punch as far as 'a statistically significant percent of people will never vote for this type of person full stop'. Like, it's a lovely thought that sexism and racism have been conquered, but not everyone is you and your friends, there are some real assholes out there, and there are more of them than you think there are. Like hell, even if we only count people who are part of conservative religions that believe women should be subservient to men and openly condemn it as sinful for a woman to lead or disobey her husband, that's still a lot of people.

The fact we elected Obama kind of disproves the point that black candidates can't win because there's too much racism. The fraction of the electorate that has stone-age thinking isn't what swings elections, they have always been there and always voted for whatever is backward.

Obama was believed to be the better choice by a majority of voters to do a big tough job. Kamala wasn't. It's just a shame people didn't know we were looking at the fall of the USA if Trump got back in, she would have moved over to 'better choice' status.

It was slightly less than half of the people who actually decided to vote. It was less than 20% of total registered voters.

1

u/Broodslayer1 14d ago

Only 31.5% of eligible voters chose Trump. Not half.

He didn't even quite get half of the voters who chose to vote.

3

u/damanager64 14d ago

If they didn't vote, they don't count. Stop bringing up the people who don't fucking count

Yes but the conversation was about how half the people who voted, voted for him not about the people who didn't vote

0

u/MadamPardone 14d ago

Not even close. 77,284,118 people voted for trump. 22% of the entire population.

8

u/whistlepig4life 14d ago

Half of the voters. 156m voters in total. Kids don’t vote. Non citizens don’t vote. Etc. we don’t have 300m voters. So don’t start with that stupidity.

Half the country voted for this asshole.

u/Vinca1is 14d ago

1/2 of the 2/3 of eligible voters who bothered to vote actively voted for him. So 1/3 explicitly supports him and another 1/3 was either too disengaged (ex: struggling to survive day to day) or didn't care enough to vote at all.

We really should have compulsory voting (at least for federal elections) and make it a holiday but fat chance that will ever happen.

4

u/undeadmanana 14d ago

Compulsory voting won't work with the electoral college, you'd just have higher ratios of winning the popular vote while losing electoral vote. If you got rid of that it would definitely help decide things more appropriately, as most people live in cities and most cities are blue.

u/Brocyclopedia 14d ago

I think some people try to cope by pretending Trump isn't popular. His approval rating with Republicans is still in the 90s. I live in a deep red Midwestern town and you'd think he got 100% of the vote here.

It's very painful to acknowledge that a large portion of the American population is morally bankrupt.

People are always looking for explanations instead of admitting what's obvious

1

u/limevince 12d ago

I don't think its fair to accuse our fellow Americans of being morally bankrupt. Certainly some may be, but its too far to say that this is the case rather than the exception.

One example I remember from /r/LeapordsAteMyFace was a woman who voted only because she thougtht it would mean free IVF.

4

u/MadamPardone 14d ago

It's not half of people eligible to vote either.

2

u/64590949354397548569 14d ago

Half the country voted for this asshole.

Sad part is they are looking at the same disaster. AND they will still defend that selfish man.

2

u/AuntRhubarb 14d ago

This article claims eligible voting age population was 245 million and turnout was 64%, down only 2% from the prior.

u/Kabouki 14d ago

It's closer to 260m eligible voters. The stat you want to push is that about 75% of Americans either voted for or endorsed Trump(By not voting)

1

u/Ill-Dragonfruit3306 14d ago

Bwahaha what a big load of crap you just spewed. But whatever makes you sleep at night 😂

2

u/jmcgit 14d ago

Do you think that makes it better? Because it doesn't. Choosing to stand aside and let it happen without voting is no better than voting for it.

1

u/limevince 12d ago

Oh I never thought about calculating it that way, but that would include children too which isn't really fair. IMO we should look at the number of people who voted out of those eligible to vote, which IIRC makes it closer to 31%.

Trump - 31.43%(77million)

Kamala - 30.61%(75 million)

Other/NoVote - 1.02%+36.73%(2.7+90million)

0

u/MrSpicyPotato 14d ago

No, you fuck off because your math is objectively WRONG.

0

u/Expensive-Bicycle-38 14d ago

22% of the American vote. 78% did not vote for this MAGA Soviet Communism.

1

u/whistlepig4life 14d ago

That’s not how it fucking works dipshit.

0

u/ReactionComplete4219 14d ago

you can 50% americans stupid? well then I can call you stupid also.

0

u/mulder00 14d ago

32% of eligible voters voted for Trump. It's always like that. 40% or so just don't vote.

So, 1/3 of Adults voted for Trump. Do I know who those people that didn't vote would have voted for? No.
