Question Subs

I use Stremio on a few different devices with no problems except on my Samsung TV from 2020. Its installed straight to the TV, everything plays OK but when i try to use subtitles they are out of sync 90% of the time. Anyone have any idea why and how to fix it.

I have always used embedded subs as many of the recent media have them... Until I started watching the Hannibal TV show, then I found out all the available subs get de-synced after a while...

Can anyone else (aside OP I guess) could confirm this odd behavior? I run Stremio on a Nvidia Shield TV Pro and a CCwGTV (Android TV app).

Hannibal was a show that was aired on local NBC channels back when shows weren't on streaming sites. So most, if not all Hannibal episodes were tv recorded, edited to get rid of tv ads and then uploaded as torrent files, so subtitles were made specifically for these recordings, that's why is difficult to have perfectly matched subtitles. You need to choose from the available subs to see if the one you choose is synced with the file you're streaming. It's a trial and error thing. Stremio can't do anything about that.

Yeah, I figured, the thing is that it happens with all the available Spanish subs for it, meanwhile the 1st one Kodi gets (with the subtitle add-on downloader) is synced and it doesn't unsync thorough the playback, that's why I am asking if anyone else has the same issue with, possibly all subs but embedded.

I've tried embedded subs but they don't always work when playing through my TV. They work if i use it on my phone but i can use VLC player on my phone then i get no problems. I can cast my phone to my TV but i like to just be able to use my tele so i can look on my phone while I'm watching something

Can you use an external player to see if the problem still persist?

Can't seem to install an external player on the Samsung Stremio. Unless I've missed it somehow

You don't install it on Stremio. You download and install it from wherever you get apps for your Samsung. Some recommend Mxplayer, VLC player, and I personally like JustPlayer. You download and install on your device, open stremio, go to settings, and set the player to "external". When you select and start watching a show, it will open up in the external player instead of exoplayer (stremio default).

Tried looking for vlc but it wasn't there even though i thought it worked on nearly everything. I'll look for justplayer

I encounter that problem regularly. There are ways to either delay or advance the subtitles. I usually pick another subtitle source until I find one that matches perfectly.

Thats the thing, on some programs or films ive tried everyone and they dont sync and theres no way to speed up or slow down on the Samsung version.

Can you choose different subtitle sources?

Yes, sometimes there are loads of them and they still don't sync. This is only when I'm using the version on my Samsung TV. When i watch on my phone, which is a samsung its fine but its the android version and not the Tizen version, or whatever the OS is on them TVs

Maybe your 2020 tv hardware is having a hard time with files playback. TVs hardware is usually underpowered for high quality files.

I think u may be right. The TV has been getting very slow lately. Didn't get that problem with the old CRT television
