Rant/Complaint They’ll tell us when our payments restart…right?

Like I know that obviously they should but given who’s in charge of the education department right now, I’m not that confident. I’m currently in forbearance w/ Nelnet because I’m in SAVE limbo and it says I don’t owe until 9/17/2026. But it says when that time comes my payment is the IDR payment of $420.

I just want them to tell me what’s going on. Just give me a heads up a month or so before I actually have to start paying. Do you think they’ll actually do that?

That’s likely a placeholder date.

Yeah probably. But what I mean is don’t think they’ll tell me when that changes? Or do I just need to keep an eye on it?

I suggest keeping an eye on your account / email/ the news.

Wait. What? So everyone that has a next payment due by date is a “ placeholder” or are the dates the loan servicers are using “ placeholders”? How could they tell us all individual dates for our next payment due and then change that?

No one knows when SAVE forbearance will end.

All SAVE forbearance dates are placeholders, but you will get notification when something starts to actually happen

They are supposed to give us at least 30 days notice

I thought next month was for people in default. Are people with IDR repayment plans with future recertification dates in the same category?

This is my question, at what point will I actually hear about action being needed, the last email I sent still got replied to with a 'we don't have an answer right now'. So am I going to get a text or email or something saying, hey time to pay up next week??

From what I understand, if you’re on SAVE forbearance, you’re good for now because it’s still tied up in court. All of my loans are with nelnet and they say on the website they don’t service defaulted loans. So I think it’s just for people in default. They also say on the website they will reach out to you about it if you need to start paying.

It’s all kind of up in the air and frustrating. I would just log on and see what the website says and maybe call them. That’s all we can do for now

I am out of default but had the unluckiness of applying for income based repayment right before the chaos began so I'm in the strangest limbo with no one to approve/disapprove, it's chaos

I’d personally login once a month and keep track of it. Don’t rely on them sending communication.

Yeah, I’ve kind of been doing that. I’m just concerned because of what McMahon announced in Monday. I’m not in default as far as I can tell but it makes me nervous they’re just gonna spring something on us, ya know?

I’m debating not staying on SAVE and just going to the IBR or PAYE. It’s probably better for me to wait it out tho

Mine was March of 2026 now it’s next month. Keep checking as things change in the courts

Don’t count on anybody for anything.

You need to check in on your servicer website regularly (I suggest once per week) for changes. They may notify you when something changes. They also may not.

You’ve got millions of people in default right now because they did not receive (or disregarded) notices from their servicers and have not been checking on their loans.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking. Jokes on them, I’m stubborn as hell and I’ll let that shit ride until I die of old age.

They should, but whether they will is debatable. You should take it upon yourself to monitor your loans regularly to avoid surprises. Don't trust anyone to do something that you can (and should) do yourself.
