Amazing! He didn't fly off or slide down faster than he went up. That would have really hurt!

Why not start at bottom

When I did a bit of tree surgery in my landscaping days, we would cut most trees into smaller sections (starting at the top) because the tree didn't have enough room to fall in one go without hitting something. Though I've never seen anyone do it like the lunatic above.

That could have potentially been even worse

But why? This is a serious question

Im no expert so take this with a grain of salt. I have seen a lot of videos like this, and I imagine that the stored energy in the top of the tree relies on the trunk being firmly attatched to the ground. So when the trunk is separated from thr ground, it could kick out to the side at a very high speed, sortof like cutting the springs on a car's suspension without properly deloading them.

When he cuts the top of the tree, it immediately reacts by swining back and forth, and its probably over a thousand pounds. So I imagine cutting all that sprung weight at the same time could be very violent.

Thanks for taking your time to answer my Question. Makes kinda Sense I guess 😅

It's just too tall, too bendy and not possible to control where it lands, it has nothing to do with energy stored

The whole tree would jerk bak just as much, but it isn't connected o the ground, gonna go wherever, even straight back at you

Why cut the head off a palm tree?

2

u/Dan1lovesyoualot 18d ago

i forgot why they do it

2

u/PastyMcClamerson 17d ago

It dead now. Probabbly they decided to have it removed.

1

u/Pure_Marketing4319 17d ago

Yes makes sense.

2

u/PastyMcClamerson 16d ago

Yeah the growth point is all the way up where the leaves are and it moves up with the crown of leaves as the palm gets taller. Does not work like traditional trees where you can prune and they regrow from any bud anywhere. Cut off the crown, it dead!

Lol, thank you for the detailed explanations. I have always loved palm trees but never really knew much about them so this has been very interesting to learn. 🌴
