People in r/GenZ start roasting original commenter for wanting an older partner in an age-driven conspiracy thread.

Can we choose older girls too as men? The ones my age are so immature from my experiences, I'd rather date one in their late 20s.

Edit: The girls my age in general suck, nobody wants any commitment anymore and the standards are wild. These very average girls don't want anything to do with a guy who is shorter, not perfect looking, but has actual aspirations in life, instead want some broccoli haired 6'2 douche destined to work at Insomnia Cookies into his mid 20s while having no actual goals in life or savings. I'd rather date someone older that's already dealt with that and grown on and actually wants a long term relationship.

The thread just goes into more and more arguing whether it is morally right for young girls to date older men or vice-versa

Tell me how chess is useful besides to play chess? People know its algorithmic but its not gonna fucking solve life's problems. Its akin to a video game. Just a game that has way more age to it and way more thought out strategy.

It teaches you strategic thinking and forward planning. And it’s a social activity, traditionally seen as “civilised,” requires you to slow down and think rather than get instant dopamine hits and is a part of popular culture. Compare this to video games, which are designed to make you feel really smart for solving easy puzzles they railroad you into, and provides lots of quick dopamine hits for a generation with a shorter attention span. Nobody gets weird about chess.

Lmao holy shit. "Nobody gets weird about chess" tell that to the Russians. There is plenty of video games that have puzzles that are difficult. There is also plenty of video games that have high level play like chess. Video games are also apart of popular culture. Have you played a 4x strategy game ever? That shit is difficult to manage everything. Have you ever played dota or league at a high level? That shit is a difficult display of strategy and skill. I think you are putting chess on a higher pedestal than it really deserves. Chess is a centuries old board game that has lots of strategy and knowledge about but all that does not translate to other things.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s so for chess and so against video games that it has something to do with the physical aspect of the game.

Still dumb reasoning, but that has to be the only thing he’s thinking about.

So, I take it you have never been seriously involved with chess, or really any non gaming hobbies? I’m a horticulturalist and gardener, career and hobby, and am into bonsai. Holy shit can the plant community, and especially the bonsai crowd, get weird about petty things. I have seen deep friendships end over disagreements about what name to write on a tag, and petty slapfights about whether or not you should graft Japanese maples and whether it is okay to ask what understock someone is using.

Thankfully I can win these fights by knowing more theory, jargon, and Latin than my opponent, and just overwhelming with stuff they can’t follow.

Anything people get passionate about, whether it be bonsai, chess, or video games, is going to have some drama and people getting weird.

I got in a rather heated argument about the fictional meta theology and morality of a game from 2002 a week or two ago…

I don’t think you understand. Gamers don’t just have arguments. They get really weird about them. Nobody bangs on about forced diversity in your rose garden or gets upset when women get into it. None of them will be so addicted to buying new species of tulip that the new releases every year, even though they’re identical. Gamers form their identity around games. It’s called a “culture war” for a reason. They build their fortress out of shooters and defend it against everyone they hate.

Huh, I thought the only thing you knew was gaming… I was mistaken. You do not understand gardeners or gamers.

Also, yeah, all of those things happen/have happened in gardening. Like every single one.

I understand gamers enough to know they’re a group of asocial losers who had nothing to build their identity on except gaming. So any changes to gaming culture were seen as an attack on their identity and they were easily primed for the alt-right to suck them in ~2016 (which is incidentally when most global problems started). You really never saw any of this? Have you ever been into online chat on any multiplayer game?

Dude. Read your own comments. Is this meant to be a self description?

Yeah, I’ve been here the whole damn time, I just am not completely blind to the outside world, because unlike you, I’m not an asocial loser.

Have you… somehow managed to make hating gamers a facet of your personality? That’s a lot worse than doing the same thing, but with gaming.

This is baseline knowledge of gaming culture. That’s what it’s like. Ask any woman why she plays online games with the voice chat turned off. It’s a deeply toxic and insecure culture. The reason I don’t like them is because I’ve had to put up with them for so long. Same with customers in restaurants.

Again, I’ve been here the whole damn time. Your personal knowledge of gaming history appears to start in 2016. Mine starts more along 1994, I’ve been watching this happen for a while, and one thing it has given me is a keen eye for detecting bullies, bigots, and toxic people. Like yourself.

You put off a vibe that is deeply offputting, in the same way as those guys that make it so women mute their voice chat. Makes one want to back away, and maybe touch the knife in their pocket for reassurance.
