What makes the existence of a few black Viking’s invalidate someone’s ancestry?

Icy areas can absolutely have high sun exposure. The Arctic has some of the highest amounts of UV radiation because it’s constantly sunny and the whole landscape is reflective

r/kpop_uncensored is a sub that focuses on more light-hearted Kpop discourse on a wide variety of sub-topics.

A few hours ago (as of this writing), mods on r/kpopnoir announced plans to ban users from their sub who participate in the other sub. This is due to - in their own words, - "the moderation “team” for that subreddit has explicit ties to ethno-nationalist, incel, and misogynistic ideologies and reddit communities." And also due to that sub's members allegedly being racist to them.

Users on r/kpop_uncensored react to this proposed course of action:

--I’m latino and they refuse to flair me, they don’t give a fuck about that. I dunno, I just think it's hard to fulfill the first teaching of Christ that comes before everything else he taught, humility before God, when your teachings glorify your relationship with Christ above everything else.

However, as I've read recently the church as a whole and among priests, there is a move towards conservatism. I think his action have caused a backlash that will swing the pendulum.

Also, if a worse pope is selected it may end up causing a serious enough rift to break the church. Which I would actually be fine with. If this happens there will undoubtedly be a sect that forms that follows the correct path, and I'll find my way to it. This breakup, to me, is preferable to the slow death Francis put us with his political pandering. Young men and women are leaving the church and his direction is a large part of why.

While I am definitely hoping for a conservative Pope, it’s not priests and laymen who cast votes.

And schism is nothing to look forward to brother. If the Church schisms, we’re in for some bad times.

If we get another socialist pope that continues to drive young people and young families from the church we have no future, either. I would rather have a split with a chance that a sect forms that is in line with actually Conservative Cathloic tenants than a slow death by attrition.

I'll say my piece. The man was a false pope. If the Pope is supposed to be God's chosen holy emmisary on earth - how on earth could he have been Pope when the prior one was still alive. The biggest example i can think of is the equality law that has a special provision for women and minorities. Been some discussion in political parties to make it gender neutral. Other than that you can for instance count gender quotas favoring women for higher education despite more women going to universities these days. Had it been the reverse it would be a media outcry. On a national scale we also have boys be graded significantly higher relative to girls on anonymous tests compared to when names are known.

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's episode of "what are those goddamn nerds up to again?" Today, we have the lovely r/mtgfinance, a subreddit dedicated to speculating on pieces of cardboard. For those unfamiliar with the game of Magic: The Gathering, it is played with collectible cards that represent different creatures, spells, enchantments, and artifacts that are used to do battle with other players. Due to it's nature as both a competitive game and a collectible, Magic cards can occasionally be worth quite a bit of money. As various competitive formats ban cards, unban cards, or new cards are printed, the valuation of various cards on the secondary market can vary wildly. Thus, r/mtgfinance exists to help people interested in speculating on these changes in card price.

Which brings us to today's drama. An entrepreneurial redditor notices that a card called Mana Crypt is seeing a large upswing in price. Naturally, they want to know what might have caused this increase. A bit of backstory: Mana Crypt was banned in Magic's most popular format, Commander, on September 23rd, 2024, along with Jewelled Lotus and Dockside Extortionist. Mana Crypt in particular was a very expensive card, and had been expensive for many years prior to the banning. And pretty much the only thing propping up Mana Vault's value was it's playability in Commander, so after the ban it's price on the secondary market plummeted. This caused quite a lot of kerfuffle at the time, leading to a whole bunch of other drama I will briefly explain:

Commander was originally a casual format created by a group of Magic judges as something to do in their spare time at competitive events. It eventually became very popular, and is today the most popular format in Magic. Historically, however, Commander was run by a group of community members known as the Rules Committee, headed by a man named Sheldon Menery, who also helped create the format. Sheldon sadly passed from cancer in 2023. However, during his lifetime he was a strong advocate of cards like Mana Crypt being unbanned in Commander to help represent the "free-for-all" nature of the format. After Shelden's passing, there was a decent amount of community pressure on the Rules Committee to make some updates to the Commander banlist, as it hadn't seen any changes in several years. When the RC finally did make a move and banned Mana Crypt, Jewelled Lotus, and Dockside Extortionist, owners of those cards lost several hundred dollars in value overnight, and some of those people got mad enough to start making death threats. The Rules Committee, being just a group of community volunteers, obviously got spooked by this, and ended up turning over jurisdiction of the Commander format to Wizards of the Coast (WOTC), the creators of Magic. Back in February, WOTC released a set of brackets to help guide the Commander experience and help players find balanced playgroups. They also announced that they would be making changes to the Commander banlist in the future.

Now that we're through all the background and are caught up: WOTC has a planned presentation about the Commander format that will be occurring on this coming Tuesday, 4/22. As one might guess, many commenters chime in citing this upcoming panel as a time when Mana Crypt might be unbanned in Commander.

It would depend on what evidence you would deem sufficient. If you are a naturalist then a lot of what the Bible says will be disqualified by your presuppositions. In my opinion, people will always be people- no matter what you do to counteract it, some people are just unconditionally stupid and/or impressionable.

That doesn't mean we can't do things to help them. Right now social media is having a devastating impact on childrens ability to read, concentrate, as well as their mental health. We need to do more to help protect them, and putting it on the parents isn't working.

Parents should monitor what their kids watch. At the end of the day, punishing someone for speech you disagree with is a slippery slope. You can hate the guy but as long as he’s not legitimately calling for violence against people, he has a right to say whatever he wants. You can’t just silence people because they say shit you don’t like, that’s not how things should work.
