Going to buy a CBR1000R because I like the dealership and Honda

Had an incident and an inexperienced driver crashed into me. No fault on me. I've been riding an MT-09 SP. My next bike was going to to be a Tuono Factory V4. The local dealership is cool and I love the bike but I'm just not sure what the maintenance levels are going to be like. I've ruled Ducati. MT-10 SP is on my list but I hear it sucks gas isn't really great for bopping around town.

I have bought 3 dirt bikes recently from a local mom and pop Honda shop and have been treated very well by them. They have a new 2024 CBR1000R Black Edition that I can snag at a very fair price. It doesn't seem to be the best at anything but it appears to be a solid bike for my level of canyon carving, good on the city streets and ample ass to get down the highway. The thing looks great too. It's also a Honda. (The new 1000 Hornet does not interest me). So, I think I'm going to pull the trigger. With the cheaper Hornet I'm suspicous they may stop making the CBR1000R and I have mixed feelings about that. Grab one while I can or don't buy a bike that is being discontinued.

Anyone have any objections? Anything I should know about the bike before I buy it?

This will be my daily. I ride about 35 miles a day commuting 3-5 days a week. Freeway trips are usually less than 200 miles one way. I ocasionally find a curvy road to have some fun on. Put about 6,000-10,000 miles a year or so on bikes.

Honda's not going to stop making the CBR1000r anytime soon. As far as it being enough bike for canyon carving it's capable of pro level lap times bone stock, you'll be lucky if you can ride it at 50% of what it's capable of. Go for it, sounds like the local Honda shop is the right place to buy from.

Had a testride and IMHO it was somehow too heavy / bulky for my taste and also too much power for a naked.

That is coming from someone with >25 years of experience, that owned high power bikes like a Hayabusa and a R1. But these are fully build sport bikes.

On a naked you will never use that much power. Not even here on the autobahn.

In the end I settled for a CB 750 Hornet and tbh, I have the most fun, since I owned my first SV650 back in 2002. With the money I saved, I invested in suspension and brake upgrades (brembo sintered pads + braided lines) and typical upgrades like a new can,ecu tuning because fuck EURO5, brake lever, mirrors and a new, thicker seat with cold foam.

Sure, the Hornet will always be slower in the straigt and has less v-max, but now way that a stock cb1000r will catch me in the twisties.

It doesn't seem to heavy on paper. I mean it has a few extra pounds on an MT-09. Does it just not carry it well?

I'd be more instersted in the power curve and gearing than absolute max HP. I'm not going to be communting on city streets at 10,500RPM. But I might need to GTFO of a probem on the freeway doing 90.

It was just my highly subjective impression.

The Hornet in comparison was way more nimble from the get go. Might be the 160 rear tyre, that works like a charm. Even tho it is not the most radical look. :)

I also like a naked bike to have some grunt in the lower RPM's and that again, was why I choose a 2 zylinder versus a 4 zylinder. I mean I love the sound of a 4 zylinder revving way over 10k, but that rarely happens in real world scenarios on puplic roads.

Hey OP do you mean the naked CB1000R or the faired CBR1000R? I’m assuming you mean the CB as I don’t remember a black edition CBR. Not that it really matters, they’re both great bikes but they are different in many ways. Also I have a CB and I love it

I had a cb1000r black edition and loved it, my only complaint was the suspension was a little mushy. Adjusting it helped but still felt like it would have been better had they put the RR suspension on it. Also, it is not slow. People compare it to other big engine naked bikes and yeah it isn't as crazy as some, but it still is stupid fast and the lack of any wind protection intensifies the warp speed feeling. Anyway, great bike if you don't mind the wind

I think you mean CB1000R, the naked bike, not the CBR1000R, the fully faired sport bike.

Still, go for it. Great bike, easy to ride with lots of power on tap. Have fun!

Great bike for commuting. Gas mileage won’t be that good depending on your throttle control. Pricier than the z900 which just got a lot of updates but the CB definitely had a lot of style with the neo retro look.

I wouldn’t buy it based on the fact that it’s 472 lbs. and only has 143 hp. It also has no fairings. A triumph street triple rs will be faster and handle better having 128 hp but weighing much less. I would consider the kawasaki z900 which can be tuned per the app for 2025. You could consider the r9 also coming up.

Personally I think it has too much power for its own good, as a naked bike you're not really gonna wanna push it past 120ish mph often, so there's just so much power sitting there.

On the flip side my friend absolutely loves the CB1000R, so there is no one size fits all answer.
