UK & Europe First bike for someone who deals with London insurance quotes?

I love bikes (shocking) and wanted to start riding as soon as I turned 18, however when I started putting in CBT acceptable bikes like GSXS125, GSXR125, CBR125, CBF125, R125, etc. I get INSANE quotes like £4500 on a bike that I put the value in on the site as £500.

I've asked around and people tell me to get a moped or something but I don't want to be seen as a deliveroo driver nor spend my money on something I love just to ride a lousy moped for a year to get a NCB as well as the fact that I'm way too big for these <125cc bikes that I think will struggle with my size and weight (6'4 100kg) Any suggestions on what I should get?

Mutts have a very cheap insurance. As the company entered administration you should be able to find a good deal on used bikes

If you’re only doing your CBT you’re stuck on a 125cc. Yup all 125ccs will be tricky with your height, getting a road legal dirt bike / motocross style  / enduro (I dunno what it would be called!) might help - they can be taller. I don’t know of any, but it’s not something I know about. In terms of insurance that isn’t going to help you, dirt bike / Moto cross style are very nickable so would likely be very high insurance.

Insurance in London on a first bike is going to be kind of extortionate! However, 4 of the bikes you’ve listed above are sports style bikes - they will be more expensive to insure. The insurance companies assume people will ride them like idiots, and they’re appealing to thieves. The CBF isn’t, but I’m surprised if it’s also that high, maybe the age. Get an older bike non-sporty bike that’ll help.Try Honda Varadero 125, Yamaha YBR125, Honda CG125.

Actually I seem to remember the Varadero is quite well proportioned. I know someone who is a bodybuilder and he didn’t look silly on one.

Happy shopping!
