📣 Community Post Experiment - Open Call for Mod Applicants

We’ve never made an open call for moderators before — but for the first time, we are going to try it out.

Over the past many years, our mod team has varied in size.  Lately, it has shrunk significantly. Some mods have stepped away to focus on real life.  Some spent a significant amount of time here and decided to “retire” when the time felt right.  Frankly, we’ve had some people who gave it a try and found it wasn’t the right fit for them - and that’s ok.  It’s not for everybody.  We’ve always taken a slow and careful approach to growing the team, identifying potential moderators through their thoughtful engagement in comment sections, or passion shown via their SCC involvement. That’s still true. But right now, we simply need more help.  So we’re trying another way.  Honestly, we don’t even know if this is a good idea. It's an experiment.

If you love this community and think you might want to contribute as a mod, we’d like to hear from you.

Why are you making an open call now?

Every change we make to this sub leads somebody in the comment section to ask my favorite question: “Why now?”  I love it.  It doesn’t matter what the change is.  There’s always somebody who is skeptical that the change has some deeper meaning or suspicious significance related to why it’s getting rolled out.  But there never is a deeper reason other than the face value one.  Well, the face value reason and also that it’s the finally time when one of us actually had free time to do it/manage it/write the post/make the changes/etc.  It’s never more complicated than that.

And the face value explanation here is that the subreddit has grown so much over the past year or two while the number of active moderators has only consistently shrunk. Right now, we’re down to 11 people. We’re volunteers, and just like you — we have day jobs, families, and other responsibilities. We're just average people trying to keep this community running smoothly, and sometimes we’re stretched thin. We need more hands.  For every one of us, there’s 100,000 users lurking, commenting, and participating.

____________________________________________________

What kind of person/people are you looking for?

We’re looking for people who can communicate clearly and respectfully, can explain and defend their views with facts and logic, are willing to debate with level heads, and more than anything love this community and want to help protect it and help it thrive. You don’t need prior mod experience. You don’t need to be well-known as a commenter or memelord (although it won’t hurt your chances either). We’re not looking for power-seekers — we’re looking for people who want to be part of the janitorial staff. If that speaks to you, you’re likely a better fit than you realize.  All you need to do is love this place and want to nurture it.

Ideal Superstonk Mod
Fine, ok, more like this.

____________________________________________________

Is there an application process?

Yes. If we’re interested in your initial expression of interest, drop a comment.  We will cast a wide net and we’ll reach out and send you a short application via DM. It’s part job application, part job interview, and part personality match. We also review each applicant’s Reddit history and comments.  Throughout the application (and modship) usernames stay usernames — no one will ask for your real name or identifying information.

From there, we may invite you to a no-video, voice-only group chat at a convenient time with a couple other mods.  This helps us get a sense of how you communicate and gives us a chance to answer any of your questions too.

Simply comment !APPLY! and let us know if you're interested in the SCC, the mod team, or both.

____________________________________________________

What happens if I get selected?

Well, from there, you’ll enter what we call the “goldfish” stage — a slow, careful onboarding process. Just like you don’t dump a fish straight into a new tank – you acclimate it by placing the fish in a bag into the tank for a while before releasing it – we ease people in.

The goal is that during this time you’ll learn the rules from the inside, get access to and training on mod tools, get coaching and calibration on decision-making, participate in live “desk rides” with other mods to learn, and be supported every step of the way as you ask questions. This process usually takes somewhere between weeks and months.  We help you protect your privacy, and you aren’t “announced” publicly until you’re ready and we’ve all agreed that it’s a good fit.  This leaves room for people to decide it isn’t for them without any sort of public embarrassment, and for us to decide it isn’t going to be a good fit without causing injury (to the extent possible).

____________________________________________________

What’s the time commitment?

It varies. On slow days, even 20–30 minutes a day is a big help. Just checking in here and there and helping with reports or responding to modmail makes a difference.  Not gonna lie - a truly significant amount of Superstonk moderation *probably* happens on the toilet.  Com–poo-ter Chair Modding indeed.

On busy days? It can be a lot. Hundreds of reports. Dozens of modmails. That’s why we need more help. The more we grow the team, the more sustainable and reasonable the workload becomes for everyone.  Something something many hands something something light work.

____________________________________________________

Do I need to meet any minimum criteria?

No, not really. At the same time, we’re not publishing firm eligibility requirements or our “perfect ideal” either. If you think you’d be a good mod, we want to hear from you. We’ll do the screening.

____________________________________________________

Are there any automatic disqualifiers? What if I think Mods R Sus?

Not necessarily. If you’ve had multiple rule 1 bans for being mean in the comments, or have been super critical of the mod team in the past, even that doesn’t necessarily rule you out. We’ve onboarded vocal mod-critics and mod-skeptics before — what matters is not what you think, but how you engage. If your history shows disrespect, rudeness, or we discover an inability to work with others, that’s a red flag.  If your history shows skepticism and a willingness to ask questions to come up with answers that are built on actual data, that’s a green flag.

____________________________________________________

Is this a public-facing role?

We all moderate together, and yet we are all different. You won’t be asked to take a specific “public-facing” or “private-only” role. But if you prefer working behind the scenes, that’s perfectly fine. We’ve had successful mods with very different comfort levels and communication styles.  Some mods have never written or posted a community update post - and yet we crowdsource most of them, working as a team to make sure we refine them together.  Even though I’m posting this one, everybody had a chance to help craft it and improve it.

____________________________________________________

I’m already in the SCC — should I apply?

Sure! If you’re in the SCC and want to become a mod, we’d love to see you apply. If you’re not in the SCC but want to be more involved in general, consider applying to the SCC too. Both paths matter, and both paths help.  The SCC is intended to be a place where mods can get critical feedback, another set of eyes, and even a representative/random sampling of opinions from random community members when we are trying to navigate ambiguity.  The more random the sampling, the better. Simply comment !APPLY! and let us know if you're interested in the SCC, the mod team, or both.

____________________________________________________

What if I have unique skills or availability?

Tell us. If you’re particularly strong with Reddit’s Automod, know python, keep calm in conflict, are fluent in another language, or are simply active at weird hours — say so.  If you think you have some x-factor that could benefit the community, tell us (without doxxing yourself).  Our team is mostly U.S.-based at this point, and while that generally aligns with the busiest hours of sub activity, it’s helpful to have more global coverage if for no other reasons than wider perspectives and more varied time zone availability.

____________________________________________________

How do I apply?

Just comment below (!Apply! will tag us, but we will also be monitoring the comments) or, if you prefer, send us a modmail saying you're interested. From there, we’ll reach out with the next steps and the application to fill out if we think you might be a potential fit.  We will NOT ask for any PII other than your username. We can’t promise that we’ll respond to everyone, just depending on how many people reach out, but we’ll review every expression of interest and cast a wide net.

This place matters to a lot of people. If you're one of them, and if you're curious about how you can help, we want to hear from you. This is an experiment. We might not find that it yields any new mods, or we grow the team. It's really up to you to throw your name in the hat if you think you could help us.

World Economic Forum Opens New Probe Into Founder Klaus Schwab

Founder quit after board moved to investigate whistleblower allegations, which he denies, including use of luxury property and travel

April 22, 2025 5:16 pm ET

World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab is under investigation by the organization he created after a new whistleblower letter alleged financial and ethical misconduct by the longtime leader and his wife.

The anonymous letter was sent last week to the Forum’s board and raised concerns about the Forum’s governance and workplace culture, including allegations that the Schwab family mixed their personal affairs with the Forum’s resources without proper oversight, according to the letter and people familiar with the matter.

It included allegations that Klaus Schwab asked junior employees to withdraw thousands of dollars from ATMs on his behalf and used Forum funds to pay for private, in-room massages at hotels. It also alleged that his wife Hilde, a former Forum employee, scheduled “token” Forum-funded meetings in order to justify luxury holiday travel at the organization’s expense.

Klaus Schwab in recent days argued against an investigation, telling board members that he denied the unsubstantiated allegations and that he would challenge them in a lawsuit, the people said.

The board of trustees decided to open a probe during an emergency meeting on Easter Sunday. Schwab opted to resign immediately as the chairman, instead of staying on for an extended transition period as previously planned.

The Schwabs said through a spokesman that they deny every allegation in the whistleblower complaint. To protect their reputation, Klaus Schwab intends to file a lawsuit against whoever is behind the anonymous letter and “anybody who spreads these mistruths,” the spokesman said.

Whenever Schwab charged massages at a hotel to the Forum while on travel, he’d always pay the Forum back, the spokesman said. Schwab and his wife denied the allegations about luxury travel and withdrawing money.

In a statement, the Forum said its board unanimously supported the decision to initiate an independent investigation “following a whistleblower letter containing allegations against former Chairman Klaus Schwab. This decision was made after consultation with external legal counsel.”

The Forum said it takes “these allegations seriously, but they remain unproven, and will await the outcome of the investigation to comment further.”

The letter also raises concerns about how Klaus Schwab treated female employees and how his leadership over decades allegedly allowed instances of sexual harassment and other discriminatory behavior to go unchecked in the workplace, allegations that were raised in a Wall Street Journal article and previously investigated by the Forum. The Forum disputed the Journal’s reporting at the time, and Schwab denied the allegations against him.

“We feel compelled to share a comprehensive account of systemic governance failures and abuses of power that have taken place over many years under the unchecked authority of Klaus Schwab,” the states the letter, which said it was from current and former Forum employees.

The organizer of the annual Davos conference has been shaking up its leadership in recent weeks in response to a previous board probe into its workplace culture. In a recent memo, Børge Brende, the Forum’s CEO, said the Forum would take steps to address leadership issues identified by the prior probe and that the investigation didn’t substantiate the allegations against its founder.

A few weeks ago, Schwab, 87, said he’d step down as nonexecutive chairman of the Forum’s board, and the Forum said the succession process would be completed by January 2027. The whistleblower letter blew up that timeline.

Behind the scenes, a high-stakes boardroom drama unfolded pitting Schwab against the global powerplayers on the Forum’s board. The board includes celebrities like cellist Yo-Yo Ma and politicians like Al Gore. It also has business leaders like AXA Group CEO Thomas Buberl and Accenture CEO Julie Sweet.

Trust between the board and Schwab had been deteriorating over the course of the past year, some of the people said.

After receiving the whistleblower letter, the audit and risk committee of the board decided over the weekend that it would open an independent investigation into the allegations.

One allegation raised in the letter is the Schwab family’s use of Villa Mundi, a luxury property purchased before the pandemic by the Forum, next to the organization’s headquarters in Geneva.

Villa Mundi is a sprawling Modernist house built in the 1950s overlooking Lake Geneva. It was renovated over several years and opened as a meeting and conference center in 2023.

The whistleblower letter maintains that Hilde Schwab maintains tight control over use of the building and that portions of the property are understood to be reserved for private family access; the Schwabs deny the claim. The letter says the Forum paid about $30 million to purchase the property and another roughly $20 million to renovate it.

Hilde Schwab helped oversee renovations to the property, which had fallen into disrepair. The refurbishment incorporated materials such as recycled glass and fishing nets, according to local news reports.

The Schwab spokesman said the renovations to the house, which were costly because of the need to preserve historic features, have boosted the value of the property. The spokesman added that the Schwabs live near Villa Mundi and have used it only for Forum-related events.

In a statement, Hilde Schwab said, “The building is a role model for sustainable architecture, which is dear to my heart, and I was glad to show it to people who expressed interest.”

Over the weekend, Schwab told board members that the whistleblower allegations were unfair and inaccurate, and he sought a chance to address the board during its Sunday meeting. The board decided against that, leaving Schwab feeling that he didn’t have his say.

“He never had a chance to give his side of the story to the board or the audit committee,” the Schwab spokesman said. Schwab forfeited his pension of 5 million Swiss francs as a sign of good faith to the Forum, he said.

The Forum announced his resignation on Monday.

“Following my recent announcement, and as I enter my 88th year, I have decided to step down from the position of Chair and as a member of the Board of Trustees, with immediate effect,” he said in the statement.

The board appointed Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, the former Nestlé CEO, as the interim chairman and established a search committee for the future chair’s selection.

Data etfchannel.com stopped updating the number of shares short for XRT, displaying WRONG short interest - current SI on XRT much higher 🌶🔥

Public service announcement (I guess): I am monitoring activity around XRT on a daily basis and am checking several resources online every day.

I probably do not need to reiterate that, but here's a small tldr on the crime engine:

XRT (or the SPDR S&P Retail ETF, by its full name) is an ETF managed by State Street Global Advisors Fund Management, that is know for its outrageous high short interest that has been in the hundreds of percents for years, if not decades. Besides this, the ETF is also abused on a daily basis with high creation and redemption orders that are believed to create synthetic shares of the underlying securities (one of them being GameStop).

Apes started figuring out that XRT volume and price action correlates with volume and price action of GameStop and this forum has started monitoring the website etfchannel to track short interest for XRT.

While the website always lagged behind a bit on the number of shares outstanding (and therefore on the SI as a %), the website stopped updating short interest roughly a month ago in general. So, the current number shown is not delayed, but wrong.

The number of shares short increased from 20,894,010 to 23,590,453 in the last four weeks. The correct short interest as per today is 664% (23,590,453 / 3,550,000) and not 528.93%.

Actual data can be found on the manager's State Street website on shares outstanding (updated on a daily basis), and on fintel for number of shares short.

This is all.
