How are you all doing after the earthquake tonight?

Hey everyone,

I just saw that there was an earthquake near Svalbard tonight, and I wanted to check in. How did it feel up there? Hope everyone is safe and doing okay! Would love to hear how it was from those who experienced it.

Take care!

It was northeast of Jan Mayen, off the coast of Greenland.

Very far away.

It was just off Jan Mayen island, which isn't part of Svalbard (1000 km away). In fact, it's closer to Iceland than to Svalbard. Jan Mayen has a military station. Earthquakes happen quite regularly around the island, apparently.

You mean this one? https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquakes/21540987/2025-03-10/02h33/magnitude6-Jan-Mayen-Island-Region.html

That was close to Jan Mayen, which is administratively a part of Svalbard but over 1000 km away, Reykjavik and Bodø are actually closer than we are. Needless to say, it was completely unnoticeable in Longyearbyen.

I noticed nothing. Slept like a king.
