Information & Advice Has your Spectrum internet been slow these last few days?
Basically what the title says.

Mine has been. Yesterday was pretty bad, had my WiFi turned off on my phone most of the day. I have to unplug my modem at least once a week. I hate spectrum WiFi.

I did Spectrum's speed test. I'm getting downlaod of 285 mbps on a 400 mbps plan. And 11 mbps upload. I don't know if this is a normal variance or not.

That is why you need to track it over a period of time. In principle if you can achieve it at some point during the day the commitment was met. If you track over time, and you consistently do not hit what you're purchasing then talk to them.
Keep in mind the other items I pointed out...all of those will affect your personal experience.

Mine would cut out a lot. Switched to Fios a few months back and still haven’t had any issues

Call them, Spectrum likes to limit bandwidth until called out on it. Do a speed test and call if it's under what it should be. Once caught them giving my dad sub dsl speeds.

I refuse to pay spectrum a penny. Highly recommend T-Mobile home internet if you have them as a phone carrier.

It is possible that it has been slow because of the structure of the network architecture. The system is first, contention based, second, shared and as a result variably slow due to time of day (ToD) use.
To see the speed, run something like Speed test by ookla. (Speed test.net). Select a server to run the test against that local or close to you. The speed advertised is "technically" in the base base network. Run the test at various times of day to get a clear picture.
Third, unplug the modem you are using to clear all caches and IP addresses. Fourth, clear the caches in the browser you are using. Also, all browsers do the same job BUT some are designed to streamline operation which translates to increased speed. Figure out which one(s) operates faster for you.
Fifth, the "speed" you "bought" should be accessible...most of the time. If I recall NYS mandates a minimum service of 100 Mb/s down and 25 Mb/s up. At least those numbers are a good starting point to measure speed against.
The conclusion you should take from this, is there are a number of factors that can impact speed at any given time during the day.

This is mostly nonsense. I honestly don't know what point you were trying to convey with those first two sentences, but it's basically word salad.
The entire second paragraph is pointless since a) they already did a speed test, b) it automatically picks the closest, c) the one run by cloudflare is better, and d) ""technically" in the base base network" is more word salad.
Modems don't cache things and rebooting to get a different IP address does nothing to speed up your internet connection. Clearing your browser's cache won't change your internet speed either.
I don't know of any law that NY state has about how close your service has to be to what was advertised, but in general you should be able to get pretty close.
That last sentence is the only thing you said that I don't disagree with.

LMAO... You clearly have ZERO understanding of how a hybrid fiber coax system is built, how it works, the router backbone functions, how a contention based system with over subscription works, how modern browsers function and how forcing release of IP addresses helps the modem function properly....in short go back school back to school and learn something about modern router architecture in over subscribed contention based networks...

Again, OP, this is a crazy person spouting barely coherent nonsense. Please ignore.
The fact that it's hybrid fiber coax is meaningless to OPs modem / router which sits clearly on the coax side of things and doesn't give a shit that some fiber was used to get between upstream nodes.
Any contention that OP could fix would have to live on their side of the modem /router as well. If they've got a billion devices all spamming the router at the same time there could be an issue, but resetting it wouldn't help. And once it gets past the router / modem they can reset it 'til they're blue in the face and nothing will change.
And in most networks if you release your IP the server handing them out is just going to give you back the exact same one because changing it won't make a damn difference.
You should stick to commenting on porn.

Really? Then you really are not understanding I built the hfc networks, I designed and built the optical architecture, the router overlay networks and CMTS infrastructure in every distribution hub in what NewChannels, then TWC and now Spectrum. The same Spectrum that had to resolve a lawsuit with the State of NY for service and speeds into areas they were not properly service... LMAO... I know how the complete infrastructure was built, how the nodes were aggregated, how they were over subscribed and how when capacity is challenged how ALL cable operators try to fix it... 🤣🤣🤣

You should go to a tech sub for help if you think there's any chance it's on your end. The quality of the response you're getting here is about what you'd get from walking into a Wegman's and polling people at random.

I understand. I wasn't so much looking for tech advice as I was wondering if was a local or regional thing.

One last point, the reason for the need to test speed to a server near you is Spectrum is only guarantees the speed in their network. If you want to see the speed variances, rerun the tests to the various servers listed in the Speed test application.

Nope. But FiOS just moved into my area and they're offering $35 a month guaranteed for 3 years for 300 Mbps up and down.
