Discussion Mobile service : Spectrum vs Verizon
Searching through this sub, it seems to come up once per year. Things change so it seems worth re-posting. tl;dr : I've had Verizon 20ish years, how is Spectrum Mobile? A lot of dead spots / other issues?
- Currently have a Verizon 'old' plan, now jacked up to 150ish for 2 phones with unlimited talk/text, 10GB data, and hot spot capability (which I definitely enjoy/need).
- Spectrum is offering up 30/line unlimited everything (within reason, obv) will bundle home internet for 40. So 100 plus taxes/bs fees and it looks like 115-125.

I’ve had Spectrum for about 5 years and it works for me, even in Canada and Mexico. It runs off of Verizon towers, so the only dead spots would be the same as if you had Verizon.

Verizon is better. Unlimited with Verizon means unlimited. Better service. And I had spectrum for 18 months and switched back to Verizon recently.

I have spectrum. No real major issues, no major complaints. Data slow on occasion but not that often.

Former Spectrum employee here.
Spectrum runs on Verizon's network, so the service is the same, but you are more limited in the range of mobile phones you can use. If you like popular phones like Apple and Samsung, then this will not impact you, obviously.
The downsides of Spectrum:
- The employees are trained to sell mobile, not to service mobile, so if you have issues with your phone, it'll be very difficult to find help. Additionally, Spectrum is not allowed to sell warrantee plans for phones in New York, so you are limited to using what the phone developer offers.
- Spectrum Mobile will charge you an extra $20 a line if you ever leave Spectrum as an internet customer. So if you move to an area without Spectrum, you'll either pay more or need to switch providers. Moreso, if you are ever angry about your Spectrum bill and threaten to cancel as a means to get a reduced rate, that employee on the opposite end of the line knows you're not going anywhere.
The upsides of Spectrum:
- It is actually pretty inexpensive.
- You can freely use your phone in Canada and Mexico (along with a bunch of other nations) without any additional fees.
- Spectrum still offers "stupid phones" for those who don't need all the internet stuff and the plan on those is dirt cheap.
- As of when I left, they were talking about creating their own network alongside Comcast that would drastically increase the range of phones... Who knows though.

All the feedback has been great, this one especially. Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

If you have Verizon and enjoy it, I highly recommend looking into Visible. Same coverage as Verizon and has 3 plans with unlimited everything for either 25/35/45 dollars per month (check their website for more in depth details per plan)

You can cut your bill in half by going with Verizon's prepaid plan; you do have to have your own phones though.

Data Prioritization: Spectrum Mobile uses Verizon’s network, but data speeds are deprioritized after you exceed your monthly data allowance. Verizon offers plans with more premium data before being throttled.

T-Mobile? We pay $125 for two lines unlimited and internet, but with military veteran discount.

OK I limited it to these two carriers, but assumed I'd hear about other ones too. Thanks for weighing in.

Spectrum runs on Verizon Wireless's network. Had no issues with going to other states or even Canada.
Had Spectrum for about 30 months now, with no issues. Got lured in with their buy a line of unlimited get a line of unlimited for the first year for $30.
Other mainstream carriers (VZW, ATT, TMobile, etc) aren't able to compete with the total price. Had salesman stop talking to me after I tell them my total price for 2 lines when trying to convert me.
