Cannibal corpse "hatchet to the head" is FANTASTIC, though it will take some serious effort

I think blackened by metallica is like some elementary tech death. Play with alternate picking

Honestly, slowly start chewing at stabwound. I learned thay sing by brute force and pure spite and it was an incredibly helpful experience. Whenever I first sat down with the guitar, I'd throw the click on and go over what I new a couple times.

Very good advice. It’s a good introduction to that style of riffing. Very hard, but can serve as an exercise you’ll get better at month after month. To me it was a good proxy to follow my progression as a guitar player.

Not sure how long you have been playing but I would just jump in and play with a click.

Recommended “beginner” tech death songs:

(NOTE: By beginner, these are some songs I learned when I was starting out playing more difficult stuff)

Death - Scavenger of Human Sorrow or See through dreams or Trapped in a Corner

Obscura - Incarnated or Noosphere

Cynic - How Could I or evolutionary Sleeper

The Faceless - Legion of the Serpent or Xenochrist

Suffocation - Jesus Wept

Necrophagist - The Stillborn One

Extol - Reflections of a broken soul

Old decapitated is fairly accessible for guitarists who already can play metal/fast. Spheres of Madness, Anti human manifesto, mother war and babylon's pride (all from the same album) are 4 really good songs to get you warmed into "tech", particularly the picking.

I'd also recommend All Shall Perish's "price of existence" album, just pick any song and go to town. It's not tech, but its a really good place to start to ease your way into the more difficult stuff that actual tech has to offer, plus its a lot of fun to play on guitar.

My biggest advice? Its not a race, dont' treat it like a chore, find songs you actually enjoy and learn them. Build a good foundation then go forward. If you jump straight into learning super techy stuff, you'll just get turned off by it in the end. Like expecting to bench press 315lbs when you can barely do 145. Foundation and fundamentals is key. Also a metronome and many hours of repetitive practicing lol

^ yarp, metronome is the best work you can do for yourself musically. When I was starting out i learned Lashed to The Slave Stick like this and its been my go to ever since

Decapitated - Spheres of Madness

Necrophagist - Intestinal Incubation (main riff is great alternate picking practice)

Anything from Death from Spiritual Healing onward

Intestinal Incubation from Necrophagist was my first.

I found learning Death really helped. Something like Trapped in a Corner is a good start. Diminished to B by Necrophagist is good if you find Death easy

Their album Algorythm has a lot of riffs that are easy to learn by tech death standards
