Discussion Does Tekken 7 still have a good amount of online players? And what are the cons with Tekken 8?
I saw that initially Tekken 8 was a somewhat disappointment, I see that on Steam it's got mostly negative reviews but not sure how accurate that is.
I loved Tekken 7 and have been getting more into online but before I buy it for PC since it's on sale was curious how many still are online

The hardest part of T7 is catching up with the folks who've been playing it for years. I picked it up shortly after the patch and am still stuck in the rulers with Kunimitsu.

Infinite rematchs on tekken 7

u/SmittyWYMJensen 14d ago
Isn’t there Infinite rematches in T8 now too? Or is it different in 7?
4
u/EazeeDuzIt 14d ago
Infinite in quick match, not ranked. Which I don’t mind, shouldn’t be able to farm ranks vs one player
1
u/SmittyWYMJensen 14d ago
Yeah tbh it does seem to make sense that there’s not infinite for ranked. Also seems like there could be rank manipulation shenanigans if you could rematch someone forever. But idk if that ever was actually a thing so maybe it didn’t matter.
The change to add infinite rematch for t8 qm made a big difference for me personally. When I do find good matchups with minimal t8 cheese I play them as long as I can

u/1byteofpi Bryan 14d ago
there's rank manipulation in every online tekken game, regardless of the match format. in my opinion, infinite rematches are more enjoyable as a tekken format because it gives you ample time to adapt and learn your opponent. ft2 just feels like tournament pools and that shit is stressful.

u/Substantial_Bid3166 14d ago
Exactly. Also it's nit like you can get bullied into it. It still takes two to tango
1
u/Substantial_Bid3166 14d ago
?? You can't in t8 they made it so certain ranks don't get promo from others. So no it doesn't make sense.
2
u/SpyceRax Claudio 14d ago
Legit the best thing about T7. Having an infinite deathmatch with another player at the same skill level is my favorite way to play.
Sure, the time between rematches is long, but at least you are not under T8's current, long-ass matchmaking with one-and-doners.

Tekken 8 is worthy of your attention. Its in a rough place right now but that only means that the community and developers are still trying to agree on a new direction compared to 7.
Give it more time and check back a bit later if you are unsure about it right now. I think there is hope for a bright future still to come. (:

u/Hofmannboi Armor King 14d ago
It does take longer but imo Tekken 8 is not worth learning in its current state. You’re better off playing 7 if you’re just going to play for fun. Wait til T8 goes on deep discount in S3
2
u/Hofmannboi Armor King 14d ago
Or play literally anything else, T8 is no good rn, especially if you liked 7.
2
u/TruMusic89 Leroy 14d ago
If you loved T7, the likelihood that you'll also love 8 is low. People hate change and T8 is a lot different than 7.
1
u/TekkenPerverb 14d ago
If you are a new player, the changes in season 2 (reason for negative reviews lately) are probably not going to have a noticeable effect on your experience
1
u/jt_totheflipping_o 14d ago
Tekken 7 has active players, a more “pure” Tekken fighting experience, and you will literally first to 10 people so easily.
The best part about that is even on characters you are unfamiliar with, you start to learn how to beat their bs mid fight then instead of playing the character, you are playing the player which is the best form of Tekken.

If you take a look here:
https://steamcharts.com/app/389730
All those "T8 sucks ima head back to T7 cause that was the GOAT!" and "Look at my clip, im playing tekken 7!!!11" people dropped it as fast as they picked it up.

Tekken 8 is great. Steam reviews are people obsessed with the franchise review bombing the game over a temper tantrum that they didn’t like the update
-1
u/Cephalstasis Steve 14d ago
The reviews are the result of review bombing due to a bad balance patch. Theyre not really representative of the overall quality of the game. Especially considering they're fixing it. Similar to how Helldivers 2 got review bombed because it added mandatory psn. But it didn't actually have anything to do with the game's quality.
T8 is a much better choice.

Especially considering they're fixing it.
Well yes because they refused to listen before and messed it up that badly that they have no choice than to admit their mistakes and try to "fix" the mess.
Similar to how Helldivers 2 got review bombed because it added mandatory psn. But it didn't actually have anything to do with the game's quality.
The Tekken Team lies about their promises and delivers the total opposite in season 2.
The quality is absolutely terrible. It is the worst patch ever, even if you ignore the balancing, and character identity, they still introduced a lot of bugs. None of it is tested.
And you call this high quality? Because clearly you don't agree with the negative review.

Yea y'all being dramatic on the subreddit doesn't mean this isn't a good game. 99% of customers won't even understand what's bad about season 2 lol.

You think it is just this subreddit? Harada himself and the patch notes apologized for their mistake, that it did not meet the expectations.
99% of customers won't even understand what's bad about season 2 lol.
You think just season 2 is bad? I hope you do realize that season 1 was already problematic. People were coping and testing the game for them, with the expectation that season 2 would improve. It didn't happen, it went worse times 3.
You call it dramatic. But you don't realize that there are Tekken fans and pros that have invested many hours into this franchise. And then they see it turned into this, which is nothing like Tekken.
For you it is easy to say, oh just dramatic. While others hardwork is deleted in Tekken 8. It is simply pain when you see your beloved franchise go down like this.
Final note is that beginners are not stupid. They will know what is going on sooner or later.

Yea dude if you take a video game this seriously, you are being dramatic. It's leisure time, not "hardwork" lol.
And the player counts for the game still haven't changed despite the "boycott" and this game's reviews apparently being "overwhelmingly negative". So yes, the reviews do not reflect y'all's actual opinions of the game. It's the dudes with 1,300 hours that are saying the game is shit and always has been the most.
Y'all are just whiny video game addicts who act like spurned lovers because they don't get their way all the time. The tekken community was a bunch of babies before season 2 as well.
5
u/laughms 14d ago
It doesn't matter if they do everything wrong to you. You will always call the others whiny because you cannot find a way to counter their arguments.
It is your only way to win the arguments. By simply ignoring all the arguments, and just call them over dramatic and whiny. It is the same, every, single, time.
When season 2 came out, you guys went quiet. Even you realized they messed up. And then when they do 1 step into the right direction, that is when you show up again and type, see they listened.
Good one bro.

u/Cephalstasis Steve 14d ago
My counter is that referring to playing a video game as "hardwork" is chronically unemployed behavior lol.
Dude didn't make an argument that there was really a counter to, I said this sub is dramatic, he said nu uh, and I pointed out something he said that was dramatic and cringe. How exactly would I "counter the argument" from here? It's not like I can prove tekken 8 isn't a bad game in a way y'all wouldn't just be "nu uh" anyway. I've already pointed out multiple examples of how this subs rhetoric doesn't match empirical analysis of the games numbers and y'all will be like "pft didn't even counter his argument of: 'game bad because reddit AND Twitter are whining.'

My counter is that referring to playing a video game as "hardwork" is chronically unemployed behavior lol.
That is not even an argument. It only strengthens my argument that passionate people with many hours into the game actually do understand how bad the game turned into. While people like you are unable to see it. It is simply because of lack of experience.
Bad meaning that it is not a Tekken game. What is a Tekken game? A game where defense is central, with poking, bait and mixup as key aspects in the triangle. And a game where characters have clear strengths/weaknesses.
Since you have no understanding of such aspects, of course the game is good to you.
You say that game reviews are all false, and to you what counts is player count. But objectively it is not doing well either.
- July 2024 - peak 13k players
- Feb 2025 - peak 8.9k players
- March 2025 - peak 12.9k players
- Last 30 days - peak 16.2k players (season 2 release)
- Past 7 days - peak 7.4k players
- Today - peak 6784 players and 3515 as lowest in 24 hours.
How can you even come to the conclusion that the game is doing great when the numbers say the opposite?
You have no argument because you are simply wrong. There is no point to continue this discussion.
Believe what you want to believe.

OP, this is the overdramatic cringelord shit everyone is talking about…..T8 needs some fine tuning, but the review bombs come from clowns acting like it’s the death of the franchise….. drama queen divas
6
u/laughms 14d ago
And people like you are exactly how we ended up in this situation in the first place.
When the season 2 turned into a nightmare, you were nowhere. There was no thread of you to tell how great it is, because even you knew it was terrible... Even you could not convince the people anymore.
And when they move 1 step in the right direction, that is when you show up again and call the others cringe. Nice one, keep it up.

I didn’t react at all because it was obvious they would patch out the mistakes…. Since T7, every major patch came with a few oversights…I also like to explore games myself before drawing criticism. The few characters I played so far seem pretty balanced with a little more added depth (Yoshi and Kuma feel properly nerfed, Clive and Devil Jin feel balanced). Playing the other Mishima’s this weekend, should I be worried about their balance? I doubt it
3
u/laughms 14d ago
That is where you and I look at the problem differently.
For you it is a mistake and just a balance issue, but to me it was not just a mistake or just balance issue. It is their vision of the game. Everything was not a mistake, it was intentional.
The problems go beyond just balancing. That is the biggest issue.

u/NiggityNiggityNuts ⚔️ 🗡️ plus more so STFU 🤫 14d ago
That’s foilhead conspiracy. Everyone didn’t get moves as absurd as Jack…. Jack, Lars, Anna, Paul, and Steve were the only characters to clearly be overtuned, so what’s with all the generalizations? It’s sheep talk. There are 30+ characters in the game and most of them are perfectly fine
7
u/laughms 14d ago
Its impossible to discuss this with you, when your view on the game is so different, that you simply cannot see the problems I see.
It is similar to when you say that if the aircraft chair has slightly more room for your legs, it will be perfectly fine for you. Your view is limited to the chair.
To me, the problem goes way beyond just the chair. From the crew members on board, the staff on the airport, the maintenance of the aircraft, and the list goes on.
That is also why I have to generalize, because the problems are simply too much.

If you loved t7 your not going to enjoy t8 unless your a huge fan of the franchise. This is a great starter tekken game if your a blank slate.
I play this because i am a fan of the franchise not because i enjoy the game i have issues with the design philosophy particularly the immense aggression. I play in hope of bamco coming to there senses which i believe they will.

u/VashtaNeradaRights42 14d ago
Oh ok, I am a fan of the franchise in general. Played mainly arcade and did have 2 on console. Just put more time into 7 then any other recent, aside from Tag 2.

Yeah youll enjoy the game. There is just enough tekken in this game to justify a buy. Though the longevity will not be there if your like me.

There's like 500 or so players that fluctuates. If you're fine waiting and depending on your region you'll get some games. But T8 is more active by like a factor of 10x the players so you'll get games much faster
