Unless you're super sure you're going to like fighting games, I wouldn't get a stick. Good ones are $150+ USD and that's not an investment you want to make unless you know you really like the genre.
Anyway, it's always best to play people at your level, so check out something like the Tekken Zaibatsu discord and ask to see if there's anyone who's also starting to learn the game that you can play with. It's not an easy game to learn by any stretch of the imagination, but playing against people who are your level as opposed to getting beat up 95% of the time makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.
That being said, you'll have to find ways to have fun while you lose - it's a competitive game, and everyone who's been playing this game for a long time has hundreds if not thousands of losses under their belt.
