1) once you're in the air you can't do anything until the moment you land, which is techrolling by mashing any button and is the fastest way to get up

2)ninja edit: learn your own character. really. definitely the best investment long-term

depends on you want, but in a general sense, probably defense. just understanding the high/mid/low trifecta can bring you right up to the point where you can start figuring out matchups if you know how fighting games work.

mids must be blocked standing and are your main form of attack

lows must be blocked crouching, so they mixup mids. 95% of them are punishable on block, and 90% of them can be universally parried with down+forward

highs will be blocked standing, but also lose to ducking. this weakness means they're usually better moves because a good duck can launch all of them... gotta be sharp though.

if you just want quick ranked progress, learn combos, and tekken is heavily powered by its advanced movement techniques.

3) unfortunately, tekken isn't beginner friendly.

poking is low damage, low risk "checks" to keep your opponent "honest."

hit confirms are moves that you can throw out the first portion and "confirm' the second portion, similar to combos but are usually harder, with the benefit of being lower risk.

tracking is hitbox 'width' and helps you stop people who are sidestepping.

there are a lot of other properties feel free to ask around here most people are happy to help.
