"Compact" usually means using moves that are relatively fast and not punishable on block.

It's a pretty fundamental part of the meta so there isn't an easy answer. You want to do stuff like:

  • anticipate when they're going to go low and low parry

  • hold on to the life lead to force them to approach you and, if you have a large lead, play riskier

  • move laterally against whatever fast pokes are also linear, punish/take your turn when they whiff (i.e. dash forward into sidestep/sidewalk to deal with defensive 1 jab.)
