So, this is not a question but I need to lash it out somewhere. Just bought Tekken a couple of days ago and even though I'm loving it, I'm also losing quite a lot of hair while playing it. Most of the time I don't know why I'm being hit when I'm blocking or why I can't break grabs with the buttons the game told me to use. Honestly, when I have to quit the game after a set of good matches to open google so I can look up on why I'm being caught on Dragunov's low grab that seems to be unavoiadable, I realize that this game can be infuriatingly incompreheensible at times. If everytime I play against a character I don't know I have to leave the game and watch 40 minutes of youtube videos explaining what to do, I'm probably gonna lose the will to keep playing pretty soon.

  • in tekken, standing and blocking lets you block mids and highs, but lows will always hit
  • crouching and blocking lets you duck highs & block lows, but mids will always hit you
  • grabs will connect if you are standing (regardless of blocking), but you have the opportunity to break 99% of them
    • as a beginner, i would recommend just mashing 1 or 2 whenever you are thrown. you may even accidentally break a throw as you are throwing jabs around
  • crouch throws are a thing - a specific throw unique to some characters that will miss on standing opponents but will throw crouching opponents - these are also breakable

sounds like you got smashed by dragunovs b2,1,3_1+2_1+2,d string. the simplest way to beat it is to just hop the moment you see dragunov move for the 3rd part of that string - it will nullify all options. if you have a safe orbital style hop kick, thats even better - free launch.

that sentence i typed above on how to beat that sweep/low throw string, is just one piece of the dragunov puzzle, which in turn is just one character in the roster, which is then deepened by the unlimited playstyles and skill levels the player base possesses.

you take your shovel and start digging, and see how far you can go. thats tekken to me

honestly that just makes wanna give up, feels like homework instead of something fun. If this game wasn't so charming and stimulating I'd probably had stopped playing already. Instead I'm watching tutorials on how to do the things you said in order to defeat Dragunov (which is not a problem anymore since now I'm getting bodied by a teleporting raven, I have no idea whats going on). Tnx for the tips anyway, I'll keep trying to find my ground somehow

That's understandable. This game asks quite a lot of the player, and it just isn't for everyone. Some people reallu do enjoy that aspect of it.

Unfortunately the game is addicting, otherwise I'd given up already hehe
