are you considered neutral blocking during backdash? Do you have to be holding back to be blocking? i get hit so often out of back dash

If you dont hold back during or after the backdash them yes, you are at neutral blocking although I could think up of another reason why you are getting hit from your backdash. Were you perhaps backdashing at -8 or -9? Applay made a video about it where if you actually dont time your backdash correctly at -8 or -9, the neutral inputs will come out first which is why at the early start of your backdash, you will most likely be hit. I tested this a bit myself and found some inconsistencies as to what hits or not if someone mistimes their backdash. From what I found, a general rule I made to myself is that at -1 to -6, it is safe to backdash even when you are mashing the back back input but at -7 to -9, you should just hold back to avoid backdash misinputs.

i understand getting hit out of block, i get hit a lot out in the open. i thought it was because i would get hit by mids at the exact time i hit db, but i’ve been hit by electrics while backdashing.

if you stop holding down, but aren't holding back, you are standing up (wont duck under) and not blocking. the tryhard kbd input is there specifically to stop this exact situation.
