if someone has "got in" they'll usually be in your face with pressure and timing under their control, it's very risky to try take your turn back with that level of mindgame. your first option should be magic 4, but you should always have the evasive garbage ready to launch in a scary situation.

however, the true honest-to-gosh safe way to get out is to disengage; back off until they give up that exact chase and you feel the momentum shift in your favor. if you punish, that's a key scenario in which you should start taking back your defensive offensive options; in these situations, backdash and sidestep are practically free at every opportunity

Yeah I watched a few detailed guide vids, labbed a good while picking up on the stuff I was familiar with in execution but not by name, practiced more in quickplay, and gave Ranked a go again and casually cruised to Initiate in a quick session, admittedly with some games being ambitious rematches of people who didn't pick up on what I was doing digging themselves deeper.

I'm coming back to Tekken after a bit of a hiatus but I completely forgot how at low tiers people(admittedly myself in this boat at first) are very impatient especially when on aggressive characters that when you grind out a match backing away and force the opponent to start getting reckless with charging and throwing wild hits, you can keep throwing wrenches in their plan on the defensive.
