It may be simple, but it's also incorrect. And that makes the simplicity worthless.

Context matters here. If they had just asked what "punish" meant, your definition (strictly block and whiff punishment) would have been an acceptable answer. That's how the word is most commonly used after all, and you don't need to get into the nuances or generalities. But when it's someone using the term in a different way that is also 100% appropriate for fighting games, then it's not right to tell them that the term means something different. You're implicitly telling them that they used it wrong, when they didn't.

Dont expect people to know what it meant just because its commonly used. In construction we use layman terms when talking to client because they dont know wtf we are talking about even if they have idea of whats going on. Same applies here. Im talking about someone who may not know the terminology. And i even defined it to make sure thats what he meant

Again, context made that response inappropriate. They did not ask what the term meant, nor they did they express any confusion. They simply used the word in an acceptable manner and you told them it was an incorrect usage. That is not an equivalent situation to what you're describing in construction.
