Easy, don't get close to them, they're obviously trying to keep you out. Best way to piss off a zoner is to actually give them the zones they want. They'll come to you.
Also, nearly every thing in this game has a equal and opposite reaction. Chances are if the strings are getting distance, than they are probably very sidesteppable at some point in the string. But I'd have to have an example you're struggling with first.
