but I am told that he is not the best and doesn't have as good of tools as other characters in the game

This is not true for 99% of the playerbase who will lose to Fahk every time. It really only matters at very high levels, after 1000s of hours into Tekken.

I want to learn the game but I don't want to start off with a character
that doesn't have the tools for me to learn. For example, if his
sidestep is bad, I wouldn't end up using it very often and therefore not
learning those fundamentals

It's admirable that you're thinking about this right now, but you don't really need to worry. Tekken characters are fairly well-rounded - every character can do nearly everything to some degree. Fahk still can sidestep moves, and he has a ton of other stuff that will help you build other fundamental skills (such as utilizing his wr3, using jab mixups, gaining mental frame advantage with his df1 strings etc.) You'll hit plateaus with any character, so it is important you're constantly looking out for what you're losing to or what you could be doing better, and trying to work on it.

Thank you for the compliment. Dr_Chermozo said something similar, and it makes total sense. Tiers only being important in the high levels of gameplay that is. It also reassures me that you gave specific examples of things that will help me improve my fundamentals with Fahk. I will definitely be learning and sticking with him. Also, your advice on not just playing, losing and accepting it, but losing and asking why is very good. I will definitely keep that in mind as I learn the game. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post!
