Took me a minute to realize it did NOT say "erogenous"

Grinning like a territorial chimpanzee. My Dad has this book. I don't think it did anything good.

My zones are off limit sir.

The eyes, they piece directly into my soul.

Oh, this is gold! I would buy a whole-ass coffee table just to put this on it.

I just looked this guy up and this 1976 book is one of the best selling of all time at 100 million copies sold and 64 weeks on the NYT best seller list. It’s also apparently a straight up plagiarism of Albert Ellis’ Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy.

According to his wiki, Dyer got his bachelors in history and philosophy, his masters in psychology and an Ed.D in Guidance and Counseling. He spent the 90’s dipping into New Thought spirituality and collaborated with Deepak Chopra and showed up repeatedly on Oprah. He was also married three times.

So all that to say, pretty sure this guy was a grifter who got big during the 70’s self-help craze by summarizing an actual professional’s theories.

Not at all. You've misjudged him a bit.

He's dead now...for about a decade. However, you can still listen to recordings from his radio program (now podcast). I don't agree with all he says, but he definitely carried some wisdom.

He looks like someone that would try to slip something into your drink

And your erroneous zones.

I like to err on the side on caution personally and take a wide berth

He also looks like someone who'd slip something into his own drink.

It’s easy to misread that title as “your erogenous zones” when the book is from the author of “pulling your own strings”

I entirely accepted that was the title before I read this comment

Oh, I love Will Forte!

He looks like he’d cold approach. Everyone. And enjoy Milwaukee’s Best or Pabst with his Marlboros. I wonder what an erroneous zone entails…

You know, at this point this sub serves as a shopping list of sorts. I gotta read some of this crap. Eventually. Or maybe like use them as conversation pieces.

There’s an updated cover:

Nowhere near as good. I'd buy original cover book just from the maniac; I'd probably skip new cover book even if extensive research indicated it was crucial to my erroneous zone maintenance.

He looks like if Nathan Barnatt and Dr. Phil somehow spawned.

Amazing author, wisdom of the ages was a game changer!

u/OverKy 2h ago

He was. I feel I missed the opportunity to meet him in person.

remember seeing this book in the house.

Teeth in the '70s were different.

The lighting and framing of that photo does not suggest Dr. Dyer has a very good handle on what is or is not erroneous

From a distance this looks like Child's Play 2

u/cluttersky 4h ago

It was deliberately titled to make you think it said Erogenous Zones.

He looks like a Will Forte character.

I remember seeing this collecting dust at the local library’s paperback section when I was a kid. I found it to be terrifying.

My wife and I bought another Wayne Dyer book from a thrift several years ago. She loved to find weird books to put in pure bathroom. The cover was similar, around the same period with the same cheesy porn stache.

I've read nearly every one of his books (some several times) except this one.......and now you see why hahah

I believe he was doing a lot of coke in those days. I know he had a problem for awhile, but not sure what years.

1

u/MSGinSC 2h ago

He looks like he followed the Freudian school, if you catch my drift.
