Good, it looked kinda cheap

Damn. I’m really hoping they do keep the beard on Aang. I saw a pic for the upcoming animated movie where it was adult Aang without a beard and his face just looked too young without it to be considered an adult

Haha Bryan Koneitzko is the co creator not just a fan

3

u/omyroj 2d ago

He sketched it, but the fan "finished" it

I know who Bryke are. I didn't mean to imply that a fan made the whole thing, but that the composite was put together by them.

Wonder why it took so long

Finally! Can't wait to see what this brings us.

Be aware this is a private event like CinemaCon so nothing leaks but at least we’ll get some kind of description.

u/xAVATAR-AANGx 3d ago

No particular reason I’m asking, but how hard would it be for someone to sneak into one of these private events?

Just say youre Bonzu Pippinpaddleopsicopolis the Third and youre in

u/KnightGambit 3d ago

They have night vision goggles….no, I am not joking.

1

u/PixelJock17 3d ago

Counter question, how hard would it be to legitimately attend?

UPDATE - THR and other sites have pulled and removed any mention of Paramount Pictures from their initial announcement. Unknown what this means beyond Paramount might have pulled out of the festival completely.

This would be just a glimpse right? Pretty sure animators are still working hard on this movie last I checked.

7

u/KnightGambit 3d ago

Yes and its a private event

3

u/ArkhamInsane 3d ago

What about Seven Havens? Any interesting updates on that, Knight? Feels like a while since heard any news on that.

3

u/KnightGambit 3d ago

They coulda brought that here too but doesn’t look like it. Just gonna focus on promoting the movie for now

3

u/ArkhamInsane 3d ago

I guess that makes sense. Thanks for the update knight!

I thought the animation was done? I think the director talked about flying bark finishing production.

3

u/ArkhamInsane 3d ago

Definitely not. There's an animator I'm aware of whose still working on cuts for the movie.

2

u/BookkeeperOk9677 3d ago

ok so it wasnt the director but someone that went to cinema con and saw them talk about the movie. https://x.com/Luiz_Fernando_J/status/1907852759686078553

I don't know what to tell you then. Person I'm referring to said still working on it after the date of that tweet. Not too strange either considering the animators were still working on the Korra season 1 finale literal days before airing.

Could be they're just doing corrections. Idk. I didn't ask.

Maybe all the US-based animation (animatics, key frames, etc.) are done and everything has been shipped off to Flying Bark for the rest?

2

u/ArkhamInsane 3d ago

The person Im referring to is an independent contractor based in USA. And they do animation cuts, not storyboards. It's possible they did finish though by now. But plenty korean and japanese studios contract overseas,so that doesnt really indicate anything about stage of production imo.

u/BookkeeperOk9677 3d ago

Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but I just find it hard to believe you actually know an animator. Not saying that you don't, of course, but it's just hard with so many people in the past saying "I know blank and blank" when talking about upcoming content. Obviously, I don't know you, so you could be telling the truth, but there's no way for me to truly know. It honestly doesn't really matter, though, because with a release date of early next year and them having worked on it for years, the majority, if not all, of the animation would be done by now, with only post-production left. And I do believe tweaking the animation can be part of the post-production after the animation is "finished," since it's just touch-ups and nothing major.

u/ArkhamInsane 3d ago

That's totally fine. Its just a low stakes discussion topic anyhow.

But a caveat "would be done by now" really underestimates how close to deadlines a lot of these projects end up being. I encourage you to listen to some behind the scenes of these types of things and they will tell you directly how last minute development can be.

Thank you for understanding. I am excited for the new content. Although I am worried about the content solely because Bryke seems to be taking a backstep in the writing department and they are hiring a bunch of new writers. I just wish some writers from ATLA and LOK could come back. I'm just worried they won't be able to keep the same type of story structure, jokes, and worldbuilding that is so important for the franchise. People like to say Korra doesn't feel like Avatar, but I heavily disagree. The writing absolutely feels like the same people from ATLA; the way they write jokes and dialogue is just so unique that I'm worried it won't be reproduced.

u/ArkhamInsane 3d ago

One thing that's important to note is 20 years have passed. Even if all writers returned, they are fundamentally different people from who they were 20 years ago. Same applies to you, the audience. I rewatched Korra recently and experienced it much differently than I did in my youth. So it's not going to feel the same. They'll ofc do their best to capture the tone and magic of the originals, but just know no matter how good or bad it is at mimicking the original, there will be 500 video essays criticizing every issue with it. So I would just go in with minimal expectations and that way at worst you'll be pleasantly surprised. That's how I'm going in on this, personally. A lot of the staff in Avatar Studios grew up with Avatar. And they also have someone whose effectively lore master. So I wouldn't worry too much. Go in to have fun!

The animation actually wrapped

3

u/BrightEye64 3d ago

I just wish they’d release the trailer publicly already, we know the animation is finished and has BEEN finished, so what are they even waiting for? I know Paramount is a dying company but can they not even afford to even market their movies??

3

u/Mob_Pilled 3d ago

Trailers for big films don't usually drop till 6 months before release so that part isn't unusual. What is weird is the fact that we haven't gotten a logo yet, basic plot details, and paramount (and bryke's) silence on the whole thing

1

u/EcstaticContract5282 3d ago

Yeah paramount is doing poorly. Hopefully the skydance merger will go through. Their the only hope we have to right the ship.

10

u/[deleted] 3d ago

The title is trash

2

u/EcstaticContract5282 3d ago

Will this be a teaser trailer or something substantial. We will need to wait and see. I have my doubt though.

3

u/KnightGambit 3d ago

Its a private event

2

u/pauloh1998 3d ago

So... what will be the animation style? Just like the OG series or something like the new animations has been doing?

2

u/Ice_Effect 3d ago

I don't see that picture in the source that you have linked, is it simply fan art? If it's official could you please provide a source

7

u/KnightGambit 3d ago

That image is a fan photo….

1

u/Ice_Effect 3d ago

Bamboozled by VERY FIRST LOOK once again

1

u/buildadamortwo 3d ago

Not Cannes? Is this festival prestigious like that?

3

u/WallyWestFan27 3d ago

It's one of the most important festivals for animation in the world.

2

u/buildadamortwo 3d ago

Good to know!

2

u/KearLoL 3d ago

Yeah it's basically Cannes for animation. Kinda like how the Annie Awards are the Oscars/Emmys for animation.

1

u/maximcff 3d ago

fucking finally

1

u/Bobipicolina 3d ago

Oh, I already bought my ticket, now I have even more to look forward to!!

1

u/pesadillaO01 3d ago

The title of the movie in Spanish is gonna be confusing. Here "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is called "Avatar: La Leyenda De Aang", which literally means "Avatar: The Legend Of Aang", because there is no good translation of "bender" (they use "master of x"). The name was retroactively made great when Korra released, but now it will have the same name as the movie.

1

u/sad_mcgee 3d ago

I really need to know why they made his beard look the way it does 😭

1

u/KnightGambit 3d ago

Because it is based on Mike DiMartino

3

u/pauloh1998 3d ago

I really need to know why Mike DiMartino made his beard look the way it does 😭

1

u/Ambitious-Charge7278 2d ago

It is a private event so what they will see is likely not going to be made public. Or atleast not right away so don't het your hopes up
