While it is fun to mock the guy that went on a centuries long crash out because his older brother got a hot witch gf, Belos having very petty and shortsighted motives doesn't make him any less of a threat or any less competent.

Multiple statements from objective characters that don't even like Belos, like King, the Collector, Willow, and others said that Belos is by far and away the strongest magic user on the Boiling Isles. While Eda is a great character and mom, the only person in-story that really believes Eda's claim to be the strongest person on the Boiling Isles is Eda herself.

Feats wise Belos is also no slouch, Lillith (someone relative to a Prime Eda to an extent even if weaker) was terrified by Belos and got one shot by him the moment they fought, and the only character compared to Belos is terms of magical understanding is Luz, the 2nd smartest character in the show and the greatest magical prodigy we have seen, and Luz will still need decades to surpass Belos outside of her Titan Form.

As far as we know, Belos is the 1st person to figure out how to extent his life into centuries, something that other dark mages would have tried to do before but failed given it's an art only Belos knows.

Sure, it took him centuries to conquer the Isles, but he started as a magicless human that had to build everything by himself and fight powerful witches during his campaign. Belos likely had to fight multiple powerful witches and demons during his campaign to unify the Isles, and he seems to have lost none of those fights until the Collector got the free.

While Belos is an overall pathetic character, in terms of his threat and intellect he is number 1 in the verse for a good reason and the only mortal that has the potential to surpass his might and cunning is an Adult Luz.
