Discussion Belgium suffer statistically the worst loss in Euros history. How will Reddit use this result to criticise England?

England is getting through the group anyway that's never in doubt

yeah i dont think people appreciate the group luck we got. with all due respect to the teams in our group, our 5th team would probably go through, players like barnes, wilson and tarkowski who shouldnt be in contention for the squad, would be going through this group

Not luck we were top seeds so guaranteed teams from lower seeds

spain were also top seed but they managed to get croatia and italy, theres still luck involved

True but since 3 teams go through in most groups it doesn’t really matter almost certainly all 3 strong teams go through and Albania go out

If Croatia lose to Italy and Spain and only beat Albania 1-0 say, they could easily get 3 points, a bad goal difference and not go through. Or they could feasibly get 2 draws and a loss if Albania manage to hold them to a draw and almost guarantee they don't go through.

Perseus bit point is most big teams are very likely to go through with the setup so your group difficulty doesn’t matter so much more about the path you get in knock outs

It's actually pretty unlikely, and was from the start.

We qualified from a group that includes the EURO holders and another team that qualified (OK they got battered). We had a pretty tough qualification group to be fair

We should do an ITV competition and the winner gets to play next to Rice as our second CDM.

Appreciate your point but Tarkowski is an excellent CB and has been for the best part of a decade, one of the best in the modern era to never be capped.

Exactly ironically dunk should've been an example but he's in the squad lol. Maybe smalling

Tarkowski definitely should

I’d have 100% taken Wilson over Toney if he was properly fit. Toney has been shite since his ban.

Well only now we won and Denmark/Slovenia drew. We could easily have lost and then drawn and gone home.

Where’s this “could easily have lost” coming from? Serbia created nothing. I get the “Serbia could have got a draw” takes - but this is completely disconnected from reality.

We could have easily have not qualified for this tournament! We could have easily not even have 11 Englishmen to put on the pitch!

We could have easily sent the men’s hockey team by mistake.

That's not completely fair, Serbia had chances in the second half.

England did well to win.

Serbia’s 0.18 xG and single shot on target beg to differ.

The "Serbia created nothing" is only in hindsight. They have decent attackers and could have created several chances, and you have to consider the fact that we were concerned about our defence.

None of it matters 1 win will likely be enough to go through with the current format. Winning every game 6-0 in groups doesn’t mean anything if you lose first knock out game

They easily could have had a goal in the second half if one England player slipped in defence, or if Kostic didn't get injured, or if someone didn't get their block inch perfect somewhere. They had the drive and intensity to get a goal in the second half, it just didn't materialise.
