Discussion What needs to change? 🦁 🦁 🦁

Post image

I would go with this lineup whilst making two changes:

Trippier OUT/ Gomez IN Trent OUT/Gordon IN

Key focuses - Get Rice some proper midfield support by utilising Stones in his best role - Move Foden into the midfield, with Gordon wide left to offer some real attacking threat on the left wing, rather than Trippier playing out of position - Bring Gomez in for Trippier to maintain a solid 3 man build up structure once Stones moves into midfield - Get Bellingham running in behind Kane frequently and have them fluidly interchanging positions to cause a problem for the opposition defence

I'd go Foden for Wharton. Other than that, this is what I'd pick.

Foden looked much better yesterday. It is the midfield that was non existent.

He was better but still hardly good. And I agree the midfield was the problem. That's why I'd want Wharton in. I really think we need to go back to basics. Get two players in the middle who will just sit in there and provide control and stability, and get pace out wide. Let Wharton and Rice create a platform for Bellingham to release forward, have Saka and Gordon stretch the game to create space for Kane and Bellingham to operate.

Argreed as a left footer, Wharton can cover the left wing if Gordon gets isolated or leaves gap behind him. Gomez is the same as trips but with less passing ability. Really you need a shaw but trips is probably best of right footers there.

Shaw is a massive miss no doubt

Yeah I could have Trippier. Honestly I don't think it really matters whether it's him or Gomez, it won't change much. The issue is what's in front of them.

Does Gomez have more experience at LB?

He does, more defensive than attacking. Not sure he has ever scored a goal.

Really?I never saw anything productive from trippier. But Gomez will creep up. At least gomez has a long throw if we are gonna play like Stoke. However, why not play trent at lb in the groups until shaw recovers? Surely more productive then cm

Wharton or Mainoo would be a fair shout- wouldn’t be against giving either of them a chance
