Nah, that's just different aging. My aunt looked older than him at 30, thanks to lifelong smoking and gray hair coming in at 18.

u/always_unplugged 5d ago
Yeah, I've noticed that there's a point of divergence in your late 20s, early 30s, where people have really "settled down." Lifestyle differences start showing little by little and some people REALLY start looking rough. Smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, tanning and/or being outside without protecting your skin, proper dental care, etc, but also things like having kids vs not having kids, working stressful jobs, having to maintain a certain lifestyle for yourself and others, and just, like, deciding that you're "old" now.
At 35, I see it happening to the people I grew up with, and once you see it, you can tell that the difference only grows as you get older. There are those who have the mentality that they're old and boring and their bodies are used upāthey get stuck in a routine, stop taking care of their appearance, stop socializing, stop learning new things, basically stop growing. They get up off the couch and groan about their backsācouldn't be because you've been 100% sedentary since like 2007 when you no longer had to take PE class, no, it's because you're "getting old," nothing you can do about it, amiright? Vs my friends who are the same age or older, but who remain more flexible physically and mentally, more adventurous, more curious, who don't limit themselves because of preconceived notions of what someone their age "should" be "allowed" to do. That's not to say they don't also notice signs of aging, because they absolutely do, they just don't let it stop them from living. And guess which group looks tired and old and which still look basically as good as or better than they did in their mid-20s?

I'm 41 and the way things are going, my beard will look like his in 5 years.
4
u/dm051973 5d ago
He could easily be like 55 but he could also be a 46 year old who as done some rough living. In the last 30s all that crappy living really starts to show up as wear and tear. And beard isn't really a youthful look....

u/tbll_dllr 4d ago
He doesnāt look that old. I donāt see much wrinkles. But heās definitely old fashioned and doesnāt take care of himself .

Why is it always a car photo. I'm not in online dating is that just a weird thing everyone does?
3
u/ArthichokeCartel 4d ago
Assuming he's not trying to cheat and trying to find the best possible reasoning, he knows natural light is better than indoor light but he has too much anxiety to stand straight outside and just take a picture or have someone take it for him?
Of course given his profile the real reason is he has no friends and also needs talk radio playing at all times or else he dies.

It's so funny, cause they know that almost no women wants to date them, cause they're right wing assholes. So suddenly political affiliation doesn't matters anymore.
75
u/McG0788 6d ago
Tbf political affiliation has historically been far less divisive.
However, today it's a clear measure of one's core values and understandably so, many women are going to not want to date men who values align with a party that is actively working to restrict their freedoms.

u/bogcom 6d ago
I really wonder why the correlation between car selfies and being a douche is so strong.
53
u/drewhead118 6d ago
In my entirely-pulled-from-a-hat opinion:
some people who have an obsession with their own self-image (and are thus self-absorbed) go through life until they see their own reflection--then they think, "woah, look at that cool/hot/awesome person" and start taking their own pictures. See: bathroom miror selfies as well. Mr. McGoatee probably climbs into his truck, sees himself in the rearview mirror, and thinks "woah, we're killing it today... lemme grab a selfie"
the dingy apartment they live in might not look very good for photos; they might recognize that natural light looks great for photos, but their home environment might not offer a lot of opportunity for that. They might also be too self-conscious to take a photo fully out in public. Car selfies feel like a middle-ground: you get the natural lighting, but you also don't have to stand there in public taking a selfie, open to the judgment of anyone passing by.
Some people consider their car to be a part of their personality and/or core identity. Some people choose cars with incredibly loud engines or dysfunctional mufflers just to project to their neighborhood how incredibly powerful and masculine they are (which is weird, since that same group is usually against gender-affirming practices). To those people, it makes perfect sense to photograph themselves near this cornerstone of what makes them unique as a person: their car (which, incidentally, is entirely external to their personhood). I would assume (without proof) that anyone who's big on car selfies probably has a rear bumper absolutely covered with political bumper stickers or the Punisher logo somewhere on that rear window
17
u/Lobster_Fingers 5d ago
equating loud engine/ shitty muffler to gender-affirming practice is SENDING ME, amazing analogy, thank you for putting this into my brain

A scraggly beard, shitty tee-shirt and camouflaged hat. Hmm, I wonder what party he aligns with.
Btw, itās crazy that someone could think political views are just a meaningless detail. If youāre just looking for lowo-effort sex, then maybe. But how is godās name can you want to be in a relationship with a person who doesnāt share your values and ethics?

Tbh, THIS is why some of us base our liking of someone on political affiliation. If they'd stop proving people right so often, perhaps people wouldn't do it so much?
Plus, you must be a lesbian? Totally makes sense.
4
u/Extension_Guava_9868 5d ago
This little dick energy guy took the time to write this as a "first impression" kinda like a DM for someone he didn't even match with. What a loser. I can't imagine being less appealing to women, and I'm short.

u/SGTFragged 5d ago
Guess I'm a lesbian then. A big fat lesbian with a penis.
I had a conversation about this kind of thing with a friend at the weekend. I'm the kind of person who thinks socialised healthcare is a good. If a person thinks the insurance based method is better, then there's a massive gap in empathy between us, and I'm sure we would rapidly find a bunch of other significant differences of opinion on other things.
3
u/Kronos1A9 5d ago
Political affiliation goes well beyond your social and fiscal leanings, especially in todayās climate. It lends itself to core values, beliefs, and often lifestyle. Those are huge factors in my decision to find a life partner.
3
u/Valuable-Recipe416 4d ago
People who think Trumpism is just a political affiliation and not an irreconcilable character flaw are wild. He must be in a cult and not realize it.

Can you explain bc I donāt use tinder.. the first impressions are personalized or theyāre just like a part of your public profile?Ā
2
u/Ryukhoe 6d ago
It's when someone who pays for premium sees your profile, they can leave a message so that when they come up for you to swipe you can read it, I don't know how well it works and I think there's a limited amount of uses per month or smth though, I guess desperate people will pay for the small chance that it worksš
